Interesting website- and a little scary! I found this on another forum I visit. www.expedianews.com
-
Unfortunately I hear of this alot- a family friend/uncle/co worker does travel on the side/as a hobby/part time ect so the bride just has to use them.....then when it's in the thick of things the TA decides she's done playing travel agent and just up & quits! I can not stress enough to use a TA who is familiar with DW's- they are a tremedous amount of work on the TA side (and totally different than booking an occasional vacation) and the hobbiest is just not prepared for everything and the time commitment involved! If she has taken deposit on the pkgs she will need to turn those over to another agent at the agency she uses so that they will be serviced all the way through- ou may have no say in who this other agent is and if this person will provide what you & your guests will need ( if it is YTB then you may be in a world of hurt as they typically are all hobbiests). I would NOT put any additional money under deposit-if she is not going to service the bookings then you could be in for a lot of stress. I would definately use TA Lindsey!
-
it is standard for the bride & groom to do photo's after the ceremony- in both a traditional wedding and a DW! jamaicabride- I would give yourself more than 30 minutes though - typically most couple suse about an hr-hr and a half for photo's! If you use less time, great but you'd hate to miss out on a some great photo's if you don't have enough time!

Beaches BFF Getaways 2010
JenniferSS replied to JenniferSS's topic in Sandals, Beaches, and Royal Plantation Resorts Weddings
The "events" are for the girls only ( it'd be pretty uncomfortable having guys at the Confessions PJ party LOL!) but we've had women travel with their husbands and children but attend the "events" without them! The BFF is selling out for each of the dates! It's also a great babymoon ( minus the cocktail party!) or bachelorette vacation! -

This is one of the many reasons that as a professional TA, I support Sandals resorts! Mr Stewart and his family have quietly been doing charitable works for over 30 yrs! - SANDALS RESORTS INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES CREATION OF PHILANTHROPIC ARM, THE SANDALS FOUNDATION ~Caribbean’s Leading Resort Company Establishes Organization Aimed at Bettering the Region through Community, Educational and Environmental Outreach~ Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals Resorts International Announces Creation of The Sandals Foundation on Sandals Cay on March 18th On the evening of March 18, 2009 at Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals Resorts International (SRI), Chairman, Hon. Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart, announced the creation of The Sandals Foundation, the Caribbean resort company’s official philanthropic arm. The newly established organization will aim to unite the region under one common goal: to elevate its people and protect its delicate ecosystem. Distinguished guests, including Prime Minister Bruce Golding; Anita Stewart, Vice President of Corporate Sponsorship for Sesame Workshop; Gerard J. Arpey, Chairman of American Airlines; and local dignitaries were on hand for the official announcement. Supporters of The Sandals Foundation – including Yellowbird Foundation and Flankers Peace and Justice Center – also presented generous donations to the cause during the ceremony. After receiving the CA$50,000 donation from Yellowbird Foundation – the largest donation given to The Sandals Foundation thus far – CEO Adam Stewart announced that it will contribute to building Jamaica’s first environmentally-friendly school designed specifically to Green Globe Certification standards at the Culloden Early Childhood Institution in Westmoreland. According to Adam Stewart, the work of the Foundation is both a mission and passion for his family. “It is my great pleasure to put a formal and transparent face on the work my father [sRI founder and chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart] began more than thirty years ago: to make the Caribbean a better place for the people who live and work here,” Stewart said. “We are the Caribbean. As my father taught me long ago, we have the means, and therefore the responsibility, to act.” Sandals Resorts International Founder and Chairman Hon. Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart presents a cheque for JA$500,000 on behalf of the newly launched Sandals Foundation to Marilyn Nash of Flankers Peace and Justice Center The Sandals Foundation seeks to harness the resources, talents, partnerships and awareness behind the Sandals Resorts brand to tackle a myriad of issues affecting the Caribbean under three broad headings: 1). community, 2). education and 3). environment. The Sandals Foundation is led by Adam Stewart, as well as a board of directors comprised of top SRI executives, who have been selected for their commitment to the Foundation’s mission, their range of experience, as well as their personal life experiences. According to Adam Stewart, the Foundation will make a real difference in the Caribbean through “changing lives, shaping futures and lifting spirits” and will enable SRI to significantly increase its financial commitment to people and communities most in need from the current US$11 million (per year) by 2011. Citing that education “provides the best opportunity for individuals as well as nations to improve their lot,” Adam Stewart emphasized that this will continue be a cornerstone of the Foundation’s work. All SRI resorts across the Caribbean are required to adopt schools and, in some cases, entire communities to ensure that the message of health, safety, environmental concern and opportunity is filtered throughout. From procuring new computer labs and building additional classrooms, to funding scholarships for top performing students and hosting career days, resort staff members continually share their resources with the Caribbean’s youth. Under the Foundation, mentorship programs will also be expanded and fostered further to encourage and nurture the success of local residents. Healthcare and empowerment are also top community priorities for The Sandals Foundation. The company sponsors several health clinics to help ensure that all members of the community have access to proper healthcare. Each year, the company supports the international humanitarian group, “Great Shape 1000 Smiles Project,” that provides communities in Jamaica with free dental care. Through this backing, more than thirty dental professionals from the U.S. provide a range of complimentary services including cleanings, fillings and sealants at temporary dental clinics. Education programs aimed at healthy living are also part of the Foundation’s work including HIV/AIDS awareness, senior citizen wellness and youth arts and sports programs. Hospitality training programs for resident citizens and agricultural partnerships with local farmers are among the empowerment programs that teach lifelong skills and provide economic opportunity. The final component to the Foundation’s mission is the environment and here, Sandals Resorts has a long tradition of protecting the region it calls home. Today, all Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts are certified by Green Globe– the worldwide benchmarking and certification program for sustainable travel and tourism. This was achieved in concert with the local community where SRI, and now The Sandals Foundation, work tirelessly to restore, clean and maintain the region’s delicate coral reef; educate fishermen on environmentally-friendly fishing practices; and regularly conduct beach clean-ups and tree-planting programs. In December 2008, Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa became the world’s first and sole recipient of the inaugural Green Globe Platinum Certification Award. Green Globe recognized that Sandals Negril, which was also the first all-inclusive resort to earn Green Globe Certification, had reached an entirely new level of achievement in its sustainable tourism practices. Green Globe Certified Platinum acknowledges Sandals Negril’s continuous certification under the Green Globe Company Standard for the past ten years. Among the resort’s most notable achievements, as outlined in a recent Onsite Certification Audit, are the preservation of local flora and fauna; housekeeping staff expertly trained on the latest environmental practices; eco-friendly signage and postings located throughout the resort; and an onsite Green Team that executes activities such as beach and coral reef cleanups. Anita Stewart, Vice President of Corporate Sponsorship for Sesame Workshop and long-time partner of Sandals Resorts International SRI brand partners, some of the best known names in their respective fields, such as Sesame Workshop, have joined with The Sandals Foundation to expand its impact. Throughout the year, the Sesame Street characters, who have been delighting Beaches Resorts guests for more than four years, journey into local communities to participate in anti-litter campaigns, teach children about road safety awareness, deliver holiday gifts to the poor and comfort the sick. Sesame Workshop has also worked closely with Beaches Resorts to create ongoing educational programs such as “Story Time with Elmo,” designed to instill a passion for reading in children, and “Exploring with Grover,” an environmental program that emphasizes oceanography and teaches children how they can participate in making their world better. Guests of Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts, The Royal Plantation Collection or Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts may also participate in the work of the Foundation through: cash donations made at the resorts; special purchases in the gift shop, with a percentage of proceeds going to the Foundation’s efforts; or community work, where guests can roll up their sleeves and donate some of their vacation time to work alongside resort team members out in the community. Unfortunately this won't work and here's why- The only restaurant that takes reservations at Sandals Dunns River Villagio is the Teppanyaki,-Kimonos- the other restaurants do not. The seating is for ( 10- if I remember correctly) so there is a good chance that your party would be split up if it's larger than that. The other thing to take into consideration is you may not be able to fit everyone on the transfer- as there will be other guests using teh shuttle service. I believe ( again if my memory is correct) you can fit about 15 on the shuttle. Concierge can only make reservations for those in the concierge level- Butler's on occasion have a bit more pull and may be able to add a few extras to your reservation-however it'd be hard for them to do 10 or more! My recommendation- if you don't want to spend the money on the private $25 sit down dinner, these are usually not hosted in the restaurants, is to just upgrade for the $15 cake, appetizer and champagne reception- let everyone do dinner on their own, and then meet up for drinks at one of the bars then head to the disco!

Sandals Montego Bay may be the best option for you as the nightlife there is pretty good and Sandals food & beverage is really good! Couples may be a bit too quiet. Keep in mind with Sandals they only have king size beds at their resorts and they will charge singles for double occupancy! For some of my couples this has been fine and they have guests room together with no problem- but if you have guests that may be on the "prowl" then Sandals will not be a good fit! LOL Typically when there is a group, everyone hangs out together so the singles don't feel uncomfortable at a couples only property! My second recommendation is the same as TA Maureen -get married at property like the Iberostar or Riu's- that caters to everyone, and honeymoon at a Sandals (most of them are a bit more lively- there are a few that are really quiet to so definately use a TA that knows Sandals! ) or at Couples ( a touch quieter). TA Maureen could assist with both the family property and Sandals/Couples! Quote: Originally Posted by mskimmy16 Ok so we are thinking of trying to chose where to get married! I am looking for the best service and the best food! Brian is a seafood lover and steak. He is not into a huge varity! And the best night life kind of thing for us. Any advice?

Riviera Maya can be pretty spread out - you'll want to keep in mind that your guests will need to be close enough to places to dine- as taxi fares can get pretty expensive for 3 meals a day ! Sometimes doing a non AI ends up more expensive in th elong run. Also take into consideration how comfortable your guests may feel walking into a restaurant- will they need to be near more American places to eat or will they be comfortable eating at a more authentic Mexican restarant? There are plenty of AI's that are under $200 a person per night- the Riu's , Iberostars just to name a couple. TA Jennifer

Hi Christie! What I tell my Sandals Grande St. Lucian brides who really want that resort but are concerned about the price for guests is to suggest that their guests stay at Sandals Halcyon! It's less expensive but their guests have access to the other two Sandals properties in St. Lucia (without a day pass fee) and even get transportation provided! Airfare however will be much less to Jamaica -average price 350-550 /Airfare to St. Lucia (UVF) 550-750. You may also want to look at Sandals Whitehouse or Sandals Dunns River Villagio (Jamaica) for a similiar experience and quality to Sandals Grande St. Lucian- again this depends on how much your guests can budget ! For Sandals, I would highly encourage the brides to book early as Sandals provides room pricing at almost 2 yrs out ( and will adjust if a sale comes along) but you can not reserve your wedding date & time until your room is on deposit! So if you have a specific date & time in mind it could be taken by another bride! I already have 6 weddings booked & reserved for the first half of 2010! For other properties in the Caribbean and in Mexico generally you can get rates at about a year ou and yes the airfare schedules aren't released until 330 days- although they typically are a bit high at that point! (Plus you'll likely encounter several schedule changes by the time you actually travel TA Jennifer Quote: Originally Posted by islandbride317 I am planning on a May 2010 wedding, and when we spoke to our at-home TA in January this year, she was also unable to give us exact pricing (but that really isn't her fault, as she informed us that airfare pricing isn't available until at least 330 days out). I was glad to hear that Sandals does price-matches if you book and then the room goes on sale...what a relief! But, if you are sure of where you want to go, I'd say book-away! I wanted to take a few months to speak to our family members about the pros and cons of various Sandals resorts, and find the best fit for everyone and their budget. Glad we did, too! My sister said that our original choice of Sandals Grande St. Lucian was going to be out of her price range and she may not be able to attend, so we did a little more research and landed on SGOR which offered much more comfortable prices for everyone! We plan to book by the end of May, which would put us around 1 year out. I can't wait, either -- the feeling of making it "official" will be AMAZING, won't it? Best regards, Christie

What is the day pass fee and hours ? Full day pass cost is $150.00 usd per person from 09:00 am to 11:00 pm. If Only attending the wedding with the Gold Excellence Package will be $70.00 usd per person. And will allow clients to stay for the wedding and reception length. They would be able to arrive just prior to the wedding- about 15-20 minutes. Hope that helped! Quote: Originally Posted by reevesbride Ok, thats how I feel. I just wanted to know what time my guest could arrive with the Wedding pass. So I decided to try my question again- asking if the wedding starts at 6pm what time can the guest begin to arrive. She again emailed me back the price list for the day pass, the half day pass, and the wedding pass but no times. So I have emailed her the question again stating that I know the prices. OMG how dense is she. I just wanted a simple answer to my question. And I dont think its that complexed of a question but I truly dont think she should be so dense.

Concerned about Beaches....
JenniferSS replied to Hopelesslyblissful's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Actually you probably heard about Grand Lido Negril turning into Breezes this coming fall- they are rebranding all of their Grand Lido properties into Breezes- not sure if they are keeping them adult only or allowing kids. If any of the Beaches properties would be turned it would most likely be Sandy Bay as sandals does not actually own the property-leases it. -
Both are fantastic properties- the main differences will be Capri- smaller, intimate, older but the service & food is amazing, older but extremely well taken care of. Maroma- larger propery, report sis that the food is very good but Capri is better, becah is a bit nicer, resort is brand new. Service is good but Capri service is better
