  1. Definately. You will need to submit a book to me in a PM for next month. We just finished Room and are discussing it and reading Sarah's Key which we will discuss on November 12th.
  2. I was going to post this morning but had an emergency meeting at work and didn't get out till an hour ago!!! Yes, it is discussion time. (I really hope everyone has finished) Usually the person who submitted the book leads the discussion, but since this is alot of people's first time, I'd thought I'd let us wing it and then next month let the submitter lead. IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED DO NOT READ FURTHER ****POSSIBLE SPOILERS**** I was very surprised by this book. When I head it was in the child's POV, I thought "Oh great borrring". But I really did enjoy it. I do agree with some who were disappointed in the second half. They built Ma as loving and sensitive and after the escape she almost abandons Jack. I can see why she moved to suicide but I feel it was almost rushed. There was no closure with Old Nick. I do love the went and saw Room one more time. I guess in a way that was their closure. This room hit real close to me in a way. I was a CASA (Court appointed advocate) for an abused boy a few years ago and his name was Jack. So for me when I thought of Jack in the book I thought of the boy I spoke for. Just made it a little more real. So for discussion, I thought I'd throw some questions out there and see what other people thought. *Why do you think the entire book is told in Jack's voice? Do you think it was effective? *How do you think that Jack's development were stunted in growing up in the Room? How has he benefited? *What would you miss most about the outside world? *What would you have done differently if you were Ma? Would you have told Jack from the beginning about the outside world? *If Ma had never given birth to Jack, what would her situation in Room be like? *What would you ask for Sundaytreat if you were Ma? *Why do you think the author chose not to tell any of Old Nick's story? *In a similar situation, how would you teach a child the difference between the real world and television? *What are you most affected by in the novel? What moved you the most? Last note, we will now have a month for Sarah's Key if you haven't already started. We will open it for discussion on November 12th.
  3. The book we are reading currently is Room by Emma Donoghue and next month book is Sarah's Key by Tatiana De Rosnay. You shouldn't of got a PM. We post on here the book. I only PM if you didn't submit a book, but you did so you're all good.
  4. Maybe we should change the length of reading. This was a small book so a month might be too much.
  5. I know Tricia hasn't. I am totally for discussing sooner. But I don't want to rush anyone either. If everyone is done we could open the floor for discussing.
  6. Drum Roll Please!!!!!! I was missing one suggestion but decided they can have an out this time! So I generated a random number and the number was 5! That was Canadiansandy and her book choice was....... Sarah's Key by Tatiana De Rosnay I have actually read this one and must say it's one of my favorite books! Very good choice for discussion! This book is in paperback (big plus) and can be found on Amazon for five bucks!! I cannot wait to read this again!! Truly good book. Since the day to rdiscuss Room is October 12th the day to discuss Sarah's Key will be November 12th. Happy Reading!!
  7. Hugs Carly. I am going on 3 1/2 years. I feel your pain. Do take a break from the stress of it. It helps!
  8. I sent PM's, just in case they don't read this thread often.
  9. Still waiting on some suggestions.
  10. Ahhh. I see. Thanks for letting me know. haha!!
  11. Ordered my nook this morning! I'm so excited. 2-6 days for shipping. I also ordered a back in grass green! Woohoo! Now I have to think of a name. You can "name" your nook. But it seems like everyone names their "nookie". Gotta be more original. Hmmm..
  12. Ok, so we'll pick the book for next month so that people have time to order or reserve their book. The deadline for finishing the first book is October 12.  I still need books from the following people:  Crystalballl HockeyMom97 Karla lyndsay_h Shoesiesluvr  After I get everyone's suggestion I'll let you know the book chosen. Â
  13. I tell people the sony is like an iPod. You download and sync. Easy peasy! The only reason I didn't do wi-fi before is because we only have verizon towers. Boo. But we are getting more service here and the Nook has wi-fi, so I'm thinking of switching!
  14. Don't know actually. It's from Barnes and Nobles. I'm in the US so I'm not really sure.
  15. LoL! Sorry girls. Just thought I'd give my 2 cents. I love the nooks color screen and everything you can do. Supp. there selection of books is better b/c they ARE a book store and amazon is not. They are around the same 130 price range too.
  16. Well I'm anti kindle. Haha. Both my inlaws have one. The reason I don't like it is b/c it doesn't support ePub format. So if you wanted to rent books from your local library or other sites online they will most likely be in ePub and you can't do that on the Kindle. It also ahs no expandable memory. No SD card. So you can only hold what it handles. I love that I can put books on an SD card and have more. Â I personally am thinking of the Nook b/c it does support ePub, it has Wi-fi, and it has expandable memory. Plus I love the way it looks. The keybaord is in the touch screen and hides. I hate how the kindle has a keyboard. When I hold my inlawas kindle I always accidently push buttons!!! Plus the nook has updates to fix kinks. Kinda like the iPhone. OHHH and the battery...if your kindle battery dies you have to pay ( I think 60 bucks) don't swear by that, to send it in. They don't send you the same kindle. They send you the same model but a different kindle! The nook has it so you can change the battery yourself! You can also get back covers with designs and personalize it! You can also personalize the screen on the nook! Â Ok so I rambled, But i thought I'd just give my opinion. I do love my Sony e-reader too. It has done me well!!!
  17. Ooh. Congrats. What kind. I have a Sony e-reader but am thinking of getting a nook and passing it to my husband! You will love how much cheaper the books are!!!!
  18. So just a thought. We could pick the next book already so people can get it ordered ahead of time. Though, then people would feel the need to read it ahead of time too. Just wanted to see everyone's thought on this?
  19. I want to say please don't worry if you haven't received your book or aren't finished. You still have PLENTY of time! I read super fast. Usually 3-5 books a week depending on size. So really please don't rush! BachataBride..I will PM you. Â
  20. I finished too. It's a quick read! I can't wait for discussion either!
  21. I tore myself away at midnight too. Had to get some sleep! I usually eat at my desk for lunch but figure I could read some at lunch! Haha.
  22. Thank God! I finally finished the third book "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest". For some reason I found it painfully slow. But now I can finally start Room! Yay. I can't wait!
  23. Gah! I'm still reading the last book in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. It's definitely slower than the first two. But I have a problem where I can't start a new one till i finish. i fell asleep reading it last night. I have set a goal to finish it this weekend. I want to read this one!
  24. Holy cow Girl!! Nope. I just replied to your PM! Â
  25. You'll be fine! If you don't finish by deadline, you'll still have time to finish up while we discuss! Â Good. It sounded good and sad to me. Â
