  1. For those of you who have done site visits in Cabo, did you find that you had to make appointments (hotels, wedding coordinators, and villa tours) on weekdays? We would like to go on a site visit soon, but we might only be able to go Friday late afternoon to Tuesday morning. Do you have general site visit pointers? Thanks

  4. I bet you could just have the ceremony at a hotel. But, like others have said, you might get some price breaks if guests stay there or the reception is there. I haven't been to the Hilton, but I think the Westin and the Sheraton are great. What kind of backdrop would you like for your wedding? Have you seen all three places? The Sheraton struck me as lush, beautiful and very "Spanish hacienda". The Westin seemed dramatic to me because the exterior walls are painted intense colors, the architecture includes lots of angles and clean lines (Does that make sense?I'm not an architect.), and some of the balconies provide great views of waves smashing into rocks. As for which would be better for a small ceremony, I'm not sure. I like both places. Thanks for asking your question. I'm interested in everyones' replies too.
  5. I agree with others that Sun Cabo and Cabo Villas seem to have the most information and good customer service. I e-mailed Cabo Villas and they sent me an overview of which villas are the best for weddings of different sizes. I attached the document (I think) for you. We still haven't reserved anything yet but plan to by the end of the week. We are planning to rent several villas in the same neighborhood. We'll have the wedding on the beach and a very casual reception at one of the villas. Everyone I've talked to says that guests don't expect to have their rooms payed for by the couple. If we could pay for everyone, we would love to do that. We have decided to subsidize the room costs to bring the cost per room down to 150/night. We are also going to go to Costco and stock the houses with beer and munchies for our guests. Our current idea is to have the rehearsal dinner at Fiesta Americana and overflow guests can stay there. It is really close to the villas we are renting. Some of the villas charge an event fee and others don't. Many of the villas have a minimum number of nights per stay. It does seem like very few people are doing the villa thing, so it is nice to have someone else to share information with. If you are interested, I'll let you know how things go when we make our reservations. Cheers, Laurel Weddings By ESSV[1].pdf

I don't know if anyone answered the question about the song, I'm pretty sure Katie Melua sings this Cure cover.
  7. Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I hadn't thought of many of the things you guys brought up. It sounds like I need to talk to a travel agent and to the hotel I am interested in (Fiesta Americana). We are 95% sure we will rent villas for the wedding and most of the guests, but thought we might try to get a decent rate negotiated at a nearby hotel for other guests.
  8. I saw the JCrew embossed beach dress in a forum member's slideshow and thought it looked great on her bridesmaids. I looked on-line at JCrew and found it in three styles and lots of colors. I liked it because it was pretty, simple, and would look good on lots of people. I stopped by JCrew to see if they had any I could look at before we ordered them and they did!! I was able to buy them on there on sale. I'm excited. Here is the link Strapless Embossed Beach Dress - Summer Dress Shop - Women - JCrew.com. One of my bridesmaids tried it on and it looked really attractive on her (enough for a whistle from her husband). I got navy even though I might have picked a brighter color if I hadn't seen the navy. The salesperson I called said they are coming out with more beach wedding colors in November (purple, orange, and yellow). Laurel
  9. We were searching the site to see if we could compare hotels in terms of how much it would cost per room for our guests. Gals, would you mind sharing the guest price per room for the hotels you have booked or looked at? Thanks so much, L and J
  10. I just discovered Katie Melua. I heard this song "When you taught me how to dance" from the Miss Potter soundtrack (YouTube - Katie Melua) and thought I thought it might be a nice song for a father-daughter dance. I looked for it on YouTube and found some others that are really pretty and might be suitable for some part of a wedding (website music, photo slideshow music, first dance, recessional) Nine Million Bicycles YouTube - Katie Melua - Nine Milion Bicycles Call Off the Search YouTube - Katie Melua - Call off the Search
  11. Yikes - I can't believe the Lazy Gourmet -outrageous. What did the 10K include? My fiance thinks we should get the villa and have a casual dinner there after the ceremony on the beach. I thought we could cater for less than 100pp and get beer, wine, champagne, and tequila at Costco. Someone recommended Denni's catering Los Cabos At Your Service - Villa Amenities / Chef Services - Denni's Catering. I haven't looked more into it yet. I have got to get on the ball!!! As alternatives, my FI's Dad has timeshares at Bueblo Bonito Sunset Beach and Fiesta Americana, so those are options too. Sunset Beach quoted me something like 250pp for the reception which is more than I want to spend. We will likely have 40-50 people. This wedding planning thing is getting me down. Laurel
  12. That guy really doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. I coordinate a program for science educators and work with about 80 teachers. I can't imagine another group of more dedicated, smart, caring individuals. Teaching is a great profession. I know it is exhausting but also so rewarding. Thank you for being a teacher!
  13. Gals, My fiance and I are having trouble figuring out wedding attire, so I'm consulting the brides who know best. ..... He wants to go really informal. I want to wear something that makes me feel like a beautiful bride, and I'm not sure the really informal dresses will. Since a traditional wedding dress might be too much for our beach wedding at a villa in Cabo, I have been looking at destination bride dresses or bridesmaids dresses that also come in white or ivory. He wants to wear khaki pants and a white or ivory shirt like many of your guys have worn or are planning to wear. I think that would look nice, so I'm fine with it. I also really like the beige suit look that a lot of your men have been wearing and the sea blue shirt with a tie look. I have just started looking for dresses and haven't been to try anything on yet. These dresses I found on-line kind of catch my eye (in white or ivory). After Six Bridesmaid Dress 6274 Jasmine Bridal J.Crew > women's sale medium > dresses > Holly silk faille dress J.Crew > women's sale medium > dresses > Avery silk long cross-back dress J.Crew > women's sale medium > dresses > Whitney silk faille dress J.Crew > features > catalog/jcrew.com exclusives > dresses > Sophia short silk dress He is thinking of a dress like Wedding White Aloha Sun Dress Hawaiian Dresses, Aloha Blouses, Wedding Dress, Tropical Pants, Island Skirts for Women This JCrew dress is somewhere in between, but I was thinking of getting it in a color for the bridesmaids. FYI - it is on SALE! right now. Several colors are 49.99. They have some colors not shown on their website and the person I talked to on the phone said they are coming out with some new beach colors in the fall (purple, orange, and yellow I think). J.Crew > women's sale medium > dresses > Strapless embossed beach dress So, I guess my question is how did you decide what kind of dress to wear? For those of you who are now married, how did you feel in your dress at the alter? at the reception? Can you have fun in a fancy dress if everyone else is not as fancy? Thanks for the advice. You guys are great. Laurel
  14. Jen, I realized I never thanked you for all of the great information that you shared from your site review. It sounds like you had a productive visit and learned a lot. Have you decided where you are going to have the wedding? My FI and I are hopeless. We haven't made any of the big decisions yet. We thought we would rent a Villa (Los Flores, Punta Vista, Grande, Buena Vida), but maybe it will end up being cheaper at a resort. Anyway, thanks again for all of the helpful posts. Happy planning. Laurel

Anyone else have that problem and maybe got out of it somehow? Deena from Sweet Dreams is charging me a $50 cake tasting fee. Jennifer Hatton is charging me a $25 cake tasting fee. Not sure if The Lazy Gourmet is charging me anything. And my planner hasn't mentioned it so I'm assuming they won't. Does this sound right to you? Do you think I even need to do these tastings? And get a load of this. . . Suncabo is charging me a $250 "touring fee" to look at villas I want to use for my wedding. They say they would apply the fee to the cost of the villa I end up renting, but what if I change my mind and have my wedding at Dreams or somewhere else? Anyone else have this problem and maybe found a loop hole. Thanks for your help, Hi Jen, I'm new to the forum. It sounds like you and I have some similar ideas about renting a villa and getting a caterer. Soooo, I'm really interested in hearing how your site visit went. Did you have a great time? What villas did you see and what were your impressions? Did you learn anything on your visit that surprised you in a good way? Hope it went well, Laurel
