  1. Most of the famous people I've met were when I was a teenager...

Rosie Martin from Treble Charger (met him twice....once after a concert and another time I'll tell you about in a second)

All of Sonic Youth - a friend of mine won a contest to meet & jam with Sonic Youth and he brought me along with him, and right before we were about to leave Rosie showed up...so that's how I met him a 2nd time

All of Goldfinger - me & my friends were in a coffee shop before a Goldfinger concert and the whole band walked in and sat down right next to us so we started shooting the shit they were all super nice and gave us autographs and whatever else...halfway through the concert I got hurt in the moshpit and was bleeding from my face (nice eh? LOL) and Charlie Paulsin (guitarist) noticed me being patched up right in front of the stage and yelled "HEY I KNOW HER" and pulled me up to sit on the side of the stage for the rest of the show...that was my 15 minutes of fame

I met Darcy Tucker from the Maple Leafs (hockey) at the Toronto Zoo after I turned around, not paying attention, and stepped on his foot. I almost died - I'm so in love with him LOL

Roddy Piper (wrestler) was sitting next to me in a restaurant in Myrtle Beach when I was a kid and gave me an autograph.

Oh and Pat Quinn (former head coach of the Leafs) was sitting next to me in Boston Pizza a few years ago.

Most of these people are Canadian and you've probably never heard of them LOL

    I think that's all I've met?

  2. I think a backyard cocktail party with hor d'ouerves would be super nice and can be done pretty inexpensively...

This caterer is super reasonable and I read a review on Chowhound and she's supposed to be good... http://www.corinnescatering.com/CateringMenu.pdf

This place is reasonable for rentals...http://www.greatneckparty.com/rentals.pdf

Instead of renting china, try going to the dollar store and picking up some plain white plates since it's only hor d'ouerves you'd only need some small ones and can sometimes find them for 2/$1 and plain white will fit with any decor

If you got all finger foods you wouldn't need to worry about silverware except for maybe forks for cake (but you could eliminate that altogether with cupcakes!) but again, you can get silverware at the dollar store for super cheap and most people would never know the difference.

If they have trees in the backyard decorate by hanging white paper lanterns and surround the area with candle luminaries on the ground...so pretty in the evening and super affordable!

DIY centrepieces like this can be done really inexpensively as well and can look super classy... DSC00764.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (sorry...the bad furniture kind of detracts for the centrepiece, but imagine it on a table with white linen - pretty!!) You can get the Manzanita branches for $2.50/bundle which should make about 3 arrangements and the curly willow stuff is around $4.00 which makes 3-4 arrangements as well. Throw in a couple bunches of orchids and you're set. (And I'm sure you could find some hurricanes somewhere for around $6-10 each)

Like Sarah said, buy your own alcohol and then hire a bartender...LI & NYC Party Staff, Bartenders, Waiters, Waitresses, Caterers - New York Wedding Services - Kijiji New York

I'm sure you can find a friend who has some half decent sound equipment...ask to borrow it and use an Ipod for music (speakers can be hidden pretty easily so it won't tack things up) and really I don't think anyone would think any less of you for not having live music...

  3. Sorry if I was unclear, I should have quoted what I was responding to when I mentioned "playing the race card" as I was responding to a direct statement regarding race...and I'm sorry but I think bringing race into this at ALL is borderline ignorant.

I'm really of the opinion that you have to put yourself in the officer's situation...it's you or him. I think ANYONE regardless of career, social standing, race, ANYTHING, would choose saving your own life over someone else's when you feel that someone else is putting your life in danger.

    I'm done.

  4. No I'm going to say one more thing - he was not shot in the back. He was driving a vehicle. His back was against the seat of the vehicle. He was just shot. Not anywhere specific.

It's a tragedy he was shot at all, but we can't go back and change what happened that night. But it's even more tragic that this is doing nothing but breeding hate and racism.

  5. I'm sorry, but this really pisses me off.

2 of the 3 officers who were charged were BLACK and 3 out of the 5 officers who were on scene that night were BLACK. They were in the parking lot of a seedy strip club known for guns, drugs and prostitution. It could have been ANYONE in that car and they would have done the SAME THING.

I think the race card gets played far too often.

That's all I'm going to say.

  6. I think this might help to understand how fast 31 shots can be fired off...even with having to stop to reload

And I'm with you, Mo, I'd rather DH come home safe to me each night, regardless of how selfish I sound too.

It's sad that this man was shot, but these officers obviously felt they were in great danger and took whatever action they felt necessary at the time. These things aren't dealt with lightly - there would have been a HUGE investigation into it and they obviously found a great deal of evidence to support that the officers were justified to use lethal force.

None of us were there that night, so none of us are really in a position to judge.

Sorry if I've offended - but that's my view on things.

  7. Just got an update on my cousin today...here's the email from my uncle.

    Hello all,

Christopher was at the Neuro Surgeon yesterday and the prognosis is this; The tumour is deeply imbedded on the left rear portion of his brain and is approximately 2cm X 4 cm (about the size of a walnut). They are wary about doing surgery at this time as they feel because it is so well imbedded it may cause brain damage or lead to paralysis as a result. They have tested him and other than it affecting his sight during his mini seizures he is fully functional!! They are providing him with medication to control the seizure episodes so that he can return to his normal day to day life, such as the freedom to drive continue to play soccer and attend school in the fall etc.

It would appear at this time they are going to monitor it and give him an MRI every three months to see if it is still growing. If it is they will decide on a course of action at that time. After hearing the news he is a little happier that they are not rushing to do the surgery and he can return to an otherwise normal life. He and his mom are coming over for dinner tonight and if you have anything you would like me to pass on for you I will.

    Have a good weekend Tony

  8. I was set up by a "friend" when I was about 17...he told me so many great things about this guy and how we'd be great together and blah blah blah....what he neglected to tell me was that he was ugly as sin, a total perv and completely clueless...

I had talked to him on the phone a few times and he seemed like a nice guy so I asked him if he wanted to come over for dinner and to watch a movie or something.

His dad dropped him off at my house (because he was 19 and didn't drive yet...not cool when you're 17 LOL) and when he got out of the car I almost died. He had the BIGGEST nose and the BIGGEST lips I've EVER seen in my life. But whatever, I figured that I could deal with it for the night if he was a nice guy.

My parents had asked if we wanted to have dinner with them that night which was fine with both of us...so we sat down for dinner and everything was cool...we were all chit chatting and whatever. Then he got up to go to the washroom.....HUGE boner right in my mom's face when he stood up...OMG I thought she was going to die! No one said anything but you could just tell what everyone was thinking once he left the room.

So whatever...dinner ended...parents went out...and I'd left the movie up to him to pick up...he brought over Full Metal Jacket...now for those of you who have not seen said movie it's about the effect of war on a bunch of Vietnam vets...and it's kind of twisted...totally not a date movie, I think I covered my eyes for half of it. Anyways during the whole movie he kept trying to sit super close to me..e.very time I'd (very obviously) shift over he'd move closer, and he kept trying to grab my hand but he was sneaky about it "oh let me see your ring..." Ugh gross!

Anyways, I finally got fed up and moved over to the other couch....guess who followed? Totally creepy. At one point I turned to the side table to grab my drink, and when i turned back around he was getting ready to make out with my ear...and then when I gave him a look he FLIPPED on me like there was something wrong with ME.

I'd had enough at that point and told him to call his dad to pick his sorry ass up.

    Worst ever.
