Dianep, your pictures are beautiful, can you tell me if you used the resort photog or did you hire an outside photog?? Still trying to decide and would like your input?? Also, I am thinking of doing a cocktail welcome get together and I wanted to see what restaurant any of you may suggest at the Gran Porto? Also we will have about 26 guests, do I need to reserve a restaurant at the Gran for a friday night deal or can we just show up? I really dont want to have to pay obviously but if its just going to be a casual meet and greet do I still need to reserve for that amount of people? Also, do I need to contact the Gran to do that b/c I cant get any response from Michel at the Royal? One more question... If I decide to hire an outside photog for our Royal PDC wedding and I pay for a room for them to stay over night, am I still responsible to pay the outside vendor fee since they will be guests of the hotel?? Thank you all!!!!!

First, if you are going to have 75 guests, you might qualify for the "free" wedding, then you can add on the amenities you want. I think you need 30 rooms to get the "free" wedding. If you pick a package, then you pay the package fee + minister/priest/etc + any add ons. Depending on what you want, you don't necessarily need to pick the package that more closely matches your guest count. For example, we will have approx 35 guests but we are doing the Classic. So, we will pay 950 + 400 (minister) for the ceremony. Since we have more than 30 guests, we cannot do the semi-private reception - that is the kicker. So, we need to upgrade the 15 guests to a private reception ($15pp) then pay $25 for the other 20 guests. However, that is still $400 cheaper for us than the Eternal for 30 people. I know there are some neat ammenities in the Eternity, but we would rather spend our $400 elsewhere. As for the photographer, we are using an outside vendor. Most of the local photographers will split the vendor fee and their packages are much better than the resort's. The main thing I don't like about the resort photographer is that you have to pick a certain amount of pictures. Most outside vendors give you all the pics and you can take them and do what you like with the pics. Huge benefit for us! I am trying to do something similar but I am wondering how you figure the upgrade to the 15 guests already incl. in the package for a semi-private to a private is $15 and not the full $25?? Ugg, so confusing. Also, can I ask who you are using for a photog or can u PM me? I have yet to come across one yet that has offered to split the vendor fee which would be really nice. Thanks!!
  4. Hey ladies! i need your help please. Ive got a few questions: I have read that a number of you have opted to do a cheaper wedding package like the classic or the eternal romance then just added on from there. I am highly considering this also b/c when i look at the luxury package it has alot of things we really dont need. So the a la carte list I have is pretty basic. Can any of you PM me with a complete a la carte wedding list with all the fees? For example, if we decide to go with the eternal package it incl. a semi private reception for up to 30 guests, if we upgrade to a private reception it is an additional $25 per real guest for all 30 people or just guests beyond the 30? Also, we are doing a symbolic ceremony, will they allow my FI's brother who is licensed in the states to marry, to lead the ceremony and waive there fee for the minister?? And i know several of you have asked this but I just want to clarify, our ceremony is on a Sat. at 2 p.m. will the weekend fee be waived even if our reception is from 4-7 p.m. Is that fee only charged if the "ceremony" is after 4p.m.? One last question I promise I am not having a good time deciding on a photog. If I had an endless budget, it would be so easy. I will be charged $400 outside vendor fee so with this is mind, most that I have found put me over what I can spend. I am not a huge fan of the resort photog so I would like to use someone in addition for at least the ceremony and pics after. The one I have found charges $1500 plus that fee so now we are close to 2K which is really pushing it. Does anyone have some suggestions of good photogs that are around 1,000 or less that you really like?? Thank you all for your help!!
  5. Hello!! So, i absolutely love elizabeth medina's style but I almost fell over when i received her package prices!! So my question for all of you.... Is it really over a thousand bucks for any good photog?? Any of the great reccomendations I have seen are super pricey. Is there any reccomendations for a photog in Playa del carmen that is on the cheaper side but still good or is that just not possible. i apologize in advance as i know this may be a stupid question but we really dont have an extra thousand plus bucks to spend but I dont want to regret it if I get crappy pics:)
  6. Okay for those of you on here that have your dates confirmed, can you please enlighten me how that process worked out for you?? I cant seem to get one nailed down and its getting a little ridiculous just for the Michigan office to follow up on their promises. First i was told that the oct. date that i wanted was totally open according to their sheet, so i was sent all the paperwork incl. booking sheet, credit authorization etc..I filled it out and sent it right back and was told the date will be confirmed with the resort by the next day. Waited and waited to no avail. I called the office and was told sorry they overlooked a wedding of 500 people on that same weekend that somehow was deleted off their sheet. Okay so looked at another date in November and was told i needed to await confirmation again from the resort. The weekend came and went and finally after hearing nothing by late Monday, I called and they acted like they had no idea who I was or what I was calling about. I had to re-explain and at that point I said after the lack of response I have received both times now, I am getting ready to go elsewhere. Well, after they apoligized she promised to email me the date and times and locations of my request and that I should hear for sure by today!!! Still havent heard a thing..... Is this standard for them b/c im sorry this is rambling on but I am not trying to plan my wedding overnight , I just want to nail down a date with times of ceremony and venue choices. Any and all input will be appreciated.

Hi, I live here in Houston and I am in the very early stages of planning. Everyone keeps suggesting a TA. If you are happy with yours, I would love to find someone locally here in Houston. Would you mind sending me a PM with their info I would really appreciate it!

I had a group of 22 at my wedding and tried getting a travel agent but the group rate she was quoted was really expensive so in the end, most of my group booked through Orbitz and a couple others with Expedia and Westjet. Check different websites and see what the prices are like before you book. Another option you have is getting a discount rate from Dreams. If you call or email the sales manage Armando, he will set up a wedding code for you with a special nightly rate which is good for 3 days before your wedding, and 3 daya after. I had a couple of cousins who stayed at a cheaper hotel for a few nights and then stayed at dreams with the special rate for the last 3 nights. my wedding was a couple weeks ago and the rate they got was $147 USD per person per night. thats a lot better than the 400 dollars they quote online! so if your guests can get a cheap flight, they can book the hotel seperately with the wedding code. you have to email him to get the rate for whatever month you are there. The extra cost for each person over 20 is roughly 80 USD and that includes the cocktail hour and reception dinner. I had 4 guests and 1 photographer who did not stay at dreams and I was not charged any day passes hope that helps Thanks a million!!! So helpful and exactly what I needed to know.....
  9. Wow, lets hope that the day pass fee could be waived, ouch. I guess this is the "fun" of planing a destination wedding. Chances are Im making a mountain out of a molehill, ha!! Out of 50 people invited that may or may not come, there is only the concern of kids for my immediate family which will want to come and who I will want to come and this alone will determine my venue b/c correct me if im wrong but it seems that all of the adults only resorts will not allow kids in even for the wedding. I have heard faboulous things about dreams but I dont want to choose it b/c they allow kids and find out after the fact that its going to cost them $4,000 for 2 hotel rooms for 4 nights due to the max. occupancy thing. Travel agent is def. in store. I have also heard the WC can take a while to respond to emails and I would really like to find out if there is any availablilty left so we can reserve. Thinking maybe I should call?? Thanks again for all of your responses.
  10. Thanks Lindsey for the info. Never really thought about using a travel agent but will def. look into that. I cant believe they will have to purchase 2 rooms, any idea what that is costing them per night for each room?
  11. Ladies!!! Help is needed please!!! I have been reading this forum for days and I have several questions. We are considering a Dreams Cancun wedding: 1) when i go to there website i wanted to see what a room rate would cost just as a hypothetical for my brother, his wife and their 3 kids all under the age of 10. it will not let me even select a room b/c it says I have exceeded the max. occupancy of 4 people per room. so then I went to expedia to try to book a hypothetical package deal and the same thing happened. Even if I were to leave off the 4 year old from the count for the room, they would still need to purchase an airline ticket for her so that doesnt work either. this makes no sense to me. obviously a married couple with 3 kids are going to stay together in one room. Has anyone had experience with this. 2) i saw alot of questions about cost for extra people beyond the 20 that the packages include but cant seem to find the answer. We are inviting 50 people, I am sure 10-15 will not come but my question is if we do the ultimate package with ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception dinner do you know what the cost is for someone not staying at the hotel beyond the 20person limit to attend these events? Also does the 20 that are included have to be staying at the dreams? 3) when I did a search for cost of the room, the cheapest I found was $400/night. That seems really high, I realize food etc. is included but is that what your guests are paying for an Oct./nov. time frame I guess I dont understand how I am supposed to assume where my guests will want to stay and when I am researching a resort, it seems like you are apying for a package deal but if 3/4 of your guests decide not to stay there well then the package deal isnt so hot anymore. How do you go about this? I am an idiot at all this clearly and could really use some guidance. thank you in advance, Toby
