Passport and Social Security Card

Does anyone know if my passport would still work if I went to social security and changed my name (without getting a new passport)?

I happen to have the day off tomorrow and was thinking about going to social security to do the name change. But, we are thinking of going on our honeymoon in a few weeks and I don't think I'd have my updated passport back in time for that.

Sorry, confusing, I was having trouble wording the question.

But, yes, do I need to change my name on my passport to travel out of the country (if I have already changed social security, etc...).

Sounds like I'd be fine going to SS with my passport and changing it with them. But, when we go I need to make my reservation in my old name. Right?

Also, add-on question, how long do you generally have after being married to get everything changed? Is there a time limit?

Thanks for the help!

Yup. The state department (the passport people), is totally separate from the Social Security Administration. So you're fine to change your S/S name.

The key thing is that the name in your passport MUST match the name on your airline ticket - otherwise the airline will not honor it, no matter what legal documentation you provide.

I agree with everyone else. As long as your passport is valid and your ticket matches the name on your passport, your fine! There's no time limit for changing your name on your passport. I work in the airport and believe me, we see it everyday!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
