Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica

Hi everyone!

Is anyone getting married at the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica? We have just secured our wedding date for a 4pm ceremony in April 2017. :)

It would be lovely to share experiences and questions with other brides!  :P

I have been pricing everything up and I think we will use the free package with the semi-private dinner and add on any extras as we wish! I think we will hire the gazebo for a couple of hours after the dinner for a dance.

I've got lots of questions for anyone who can help -

How private is the Dolce Vita restaurant for the dinner?

What is the cake like that is included in the free packages?

Is the gazebo lit at night or is it essential to hire the lighting?

When you pay per head for the drinks at the gazebo, is there a bar tender there?

What's the resident DJ like?

When you hire special chairs or bows, will these be transported from the ceremony to the dinner?

Is the resort's wedding photographer good? I've seen some lovely photos but they all seem to be from external photographers. The vendor fees are crazy!

I have SO many questions! Would love to chat to any ladies who are getting/have gotten married at the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica!  :D  :D  :D

@@kelly609  Hi! Congrats and welcome to the site! If you've got lots of questions, this is a good place to be to get them answered! The ladies here are always willing to share.

I'm a GBPJ bride - Oct 2011. We loved the resort and fell in love with Jamaica! There is a whole GBPJ thread, which I've added below for you. Definitely read it!! Whatever you have to ask, it's there believe me! This thread was so awesome for me when we got married. I know the thread is long but I'm sure it will give you more information than you're looking for.

The Dolce Vita is considered semi-private, not private. Depending on the size of your group, all of the comments I've heard are that the brides didn't even realize there were other people in the restaurant. If you're looking for a completely private venue then you can always rent out the Pisces club, which is down on the water, but it will cost. Last amount I heard I think was over $2000 but again, it's private. They will close it off for you and no one else can get in. I've heard though that you need bug spray depending on the time of year because it is right down at the water. But it's so pretty when it's all lit up at night.

As to the gazebo, if you look through the gallery, and through the thread you'll see photos of the gazebo. I honestly can't remember if it's lit at night or not. I don't think it is just because I don't believe there is power down there. But don't quote me on that - take a look through the thread and I guarantee the answer is there.

Things have changed I know since we got married there four and a half years ago but I would go back there in a heartbeat. We loved the resort and had a great time. I posted a couple of photos as well in my gallery if you take a look.

Good luck and happy planning!

Hola kelly609 and welcome to the community.

While we haven't been to the Grand Bahia Jamaica yet, we will be travelling there next week. We are shooting a wedding at the Jewel Runaway bay but staying at the grand bahia so we would be more than happy to give you our thoughts about the resort when we return.

We should also mention that we are always willing to travel to photograph weddings and it should be noted that when you have guests staying at the resort AND photographing your wedding you won't have to pay the outside vendor fee.

Just something to keep in mind ;)

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions at all.

Hi @@kelly609 We are back from our stay at the Grand Bahia Jamaica. We had an amazing time, the resort itself is so beautiful and the staff are so friendly and helpful. You are going to have an absolute BLAST there for your wedding. <3

Here are some photos from around the resort :)

This is a covered reception space by the beach, private and the breeze coming off the water will keep your guests cool.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
