My fiance and I will be having our destination wedding this summer in Riviera Maya, Mexico at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya Resort. Our travel agent as well as friends suggested us going early to do our honeymoon first since we obviously don't want to honeymoon with our families around. Has anyone done this or considered this? Pros and cons?

Currently, we are scheduled to arrive in Mexico on a Wednesday (just the two of us). We will stay from Wednesday-Wednesday for our honeymoon. Our family and friends will be arriving that following Thursday and our wedding will be held on the Friday. We then plan to spend Saturday and Sunday with our guests and fly back Monday.

    Thoughts?

What my FI and I are doing is two weeks in Jamaica but at 2 different resorts. Going to the Riu Montego Bay for a week with our family & friends for the wedding then after that week, we head to the Grand Rose Hall Suites in Montego Bay for our honeymoon! Second resort is adults only and really amazing! Can't wait!

@Jocelyn73115 - It's all personal preference, of course, but I would not want to plan the honeymoon portion before because I would probably be thinking about the wedding and getting everything in order the whole time. Even though everything will basically be done/ready, there would still be an element of stress involved for me, personally. For that reason, I feel like I might not fully enjoy it.

For us, we travel quite a bit so we aren't really looking at our trip as a honeymoon. We will have some days alone during our ten days there, but we're looking forward to hanging out with friends and family. I definitely understand the desire to have some alone time, though. It'll work out! :)

We talked about staying there later and changing resorts for our honeymoon but not having it earlier than the wedding. I would be stressed and preoccupied as well to relax and enjoy time with your hubby or I guess fiance still. Plus even though we've been together for more than 5 years I would want time with just him as my new husband. We are having an AHR and having the honeymoon after that so there are no distractions, nothing to worry about just time with me and him. I personally wouldn't like the idea but that's just me, if you do go for it.

Being a recent bride, I would probably suggest doing the honeymoon part after everyone goes home.  Arrive with everyone and spend the week with them then stay an extra week for yourselves. Whether at the same resort or elsewhere.

You will have wedding stuff that occupies you (and if your ladies are there they can help) and you will also worry about things like getting burnt before you wear your wedding dress, etc.  Also spending a week with friends and family IS AWESOME!!! but it's tiring too lol so you may appreciate some extra days after to unwind and take it all in.

Your call though, you know the two of you best.

    Enjoy!

We are doing a pre honey moon at Secrets St James in May. Then our DW is at Azul Sensatori in June. I am hoping to have all completed by May so I can go and relax and be cool until wedding day.
