Looking For Some Destination Help

Bloom16

Hello  ^_^

We are newly engaged and looking for a good destination for a larger wedding (80 to 100). Most places are only allowing 20 people and then a charge of 20$ a person extra…then saying they only allow 60 max.

We are interested in Punta Cana and Jamaica areas but haven't had any luck!
Could someone please help us out?

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi! Welcome to the forums! You will definitely find lots of help here. Sadly I'm not very familiar with the Punta Cana and Jamaica areas since we're getting married in Mexico.

How about going through some of the resort threads for the destinations you're looking at and asking the girls or doing a search or amount of guests people are having for that specific resort. The ladies can be really helpful. I agree, it can be difficult to find a resort that has the capacity for so many guests. The positive side is that it will narrow down your choices and make it a little easier to pick one :)

Another idea is talking with a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings. They are very familiar with the resorts in that area and they will be able to point you in the right direction to begin your research.

Happy planning!

You've already received some of the best advice for sure! Congrats on your engagement and welcome to BDW! You will most definitely find a ton of useful information here from both past and present brides. I would highly recommend that you spend some time reading through the different forums and absolutely read the resort reviews. I wouldn't base your decision solely on that, but it will at least give you an idea of what's out there.

Then most definitely consult a travel agent. A good agent will take so much stress off your shoulders, especially once your guests start to book and have questions of their own. Since you're Canadian, things work a little differently. You'll see that as you get more familiar with the site. The ladies in the US most of the time do their hotel and air separately. The all inclusives that are available in Canada aren't as common in the US.

That being said, there have been a couple of recommendations on travel agents here on the site if you care to ask. Picking your location is probably the toughest thing simply because there is so much choice out there! Get a few ideas in mind on what you would like, what you would like for your guests, an approximate budget that you would like to stay at for your guests travel and then talk to an agent. They will help you figure out how to put all of that together and come up with a location that you're happy with. Then you'll have to figure out the time of year that you want, unless you already have. Obviously the winter months will be your most expensive - everyone wants to get away from a Canadian winter!! If you can be prepared to be flexible, that should work in your favour especially when it comes to your pricing.

Good luck and happy planning!

I'm getting married in Jamaica! I think it is pretty common for the package to include only 10-20 people with an extra per person charge over that. Ours is $20 per person over 10 people and we have 70 people! The $20 is for set up, champagne toast and the cake pretty much. However, many resorts also give you a credit based on the number of rooms/guests you book, which makes up for some of the "extra" charges. So be sure to ask about that when you're researching!

Jamaica has A LOT of adults only resorts, which limited our options quite a bit since our siblings are bringing their kids. But we decided on Iberostar Rose Hall Suites and haven't second guessed our decision at all! They don't cap the number of guests.

Good luck!

Hello!

My sister in law got married in Jamaica at the gran Bahia principe in runaway bay and had 88 people attend her wedding. It was absolutely fantastic and they were able to accommodate her every need within a reasonable cost as well! Just shop around with different travel agents and get quotes!

Good luck!! @@Bloom16

I'm planning my wedding in Punta Cana. You should look at locations off the resort. Try Kukua, Jellyfish and Hurcan. Hope this helps. Happy Planning and Congrats:)

  • 3 weeks later...

I just got back from the new Moon Palace in Jamaica. I was looking at their wedding packages to compare to the hotel we are getting married at (Now Jade) and if I was reading it correctly it looked like they give unlimited free private functions if you have so many rooms booked. Definitely talk to a Travel Agent that specializes in destination weddings. We are using Baconko Travels in Edmonton, they were great with helping us choose the perfect resort for us :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
