Kcole123 Planning Thread - April 17, 2015 - Melia Caribe Tropical

So girls I figured I would try to cut down on some decorating costs for the boat. I originally had Chinese lanterns hanging from around the boat, table cloths, napkins, and centre pieces ordered from Carribean Celebretions. This quote came to $800 and change.

Since I updated I cancelled the Chinese lanterns and the centre pieces. Instead I am using the bouquets and my genius friend came up with the idea that if I have left over tumblers (which I do) to use them to hold the centre pieces and just put some rock in it for weight. Perfect size to what I was needing too. So now all I have to get is rocks. So since cancelling the original quote, my quote is now $181. Not bad hey?

Here is a pic of the bouquet in the tumbler (without rocks) and now I have to peel the stickers off four of them because that's the amount of centre pieces needed. Hopefully I won't have trouble with this.

Awesome idea. Sad it wasn't mine hahah jk!!! I would try to heat the labels a little with a blow dryer. May help. I did that to get the original sticker off that came on them when I purchased them

Ok I have a silly question. Why do you want to take the labels off? I think they turned out great first of all, and what better way to tie everything together than to just leave the labels on? Sorry - I just think it would be neat on the tables.

I have thought about that just to save me the trouble but still undecided on it. I just don't know how it would look. Mind you I am not overly picky but I am with certain things.

Hmmm???

I think it's a good idea but you may need something other than rocks to weigh it down. They may clash. Michael's and dollarama has lots of ideas for alternatives.

What about those round jewels? They're like clear ovals. My friend made our centerpieces for our AHR and she filled the bottoms with these clear oval beads. They're gorgeous and I think if you put just a few in the bottom it would be enough to keep the weight and stop the tumblers from tipping over.

We're using those clear glass gems to scatter a few on each table, but they could work for the bottom of your tumblers. I got them at michaels and you get a bunch for about $4 if you have a 40% off coupon. You can also use colored ones if you want. The are heavy!! I guess that's what you want, but just thinking about packing them haha.

If you just want clear ones I've seen some at dollarama too! :)

Hi,

Well I will be leaving for Punta Cana a month from today. I can't believe how fast it's going right now. Everything is starting to come together as I have the photographer and the reception paid up in full..whooo whoo. That in itself is a big chunk there.

I heard back from the resort also after I sent my paper work and getting things confirmed there. I had a couple more questions for her so I may not hear back until another week. That's the worst about communicating in emails and they are so busy. But at least it seems to be coming together a little more and I feel a little more relaxed now that I heard back from them already.

Sooooo exciting.

ANOTHER UPDATE (EYELASHES AND SHOPPING)

So first thing is first, Be warned this picture is up close and personal and I have no makeup on. Also my eyebrows need to be done also. But focus on the eye lashes if you can...lol

I went today to Edmonton and had my eye lash extensions done at Lash Affair. They were a little on the pricey side but I am so happy I have them done now. I will need one fill before I leave and I have that booked for April 11th (We leave the 13th). All in all the experience was really good and the lady doing my extensions I couldn't have asked for better. I get really antsy even getting my hair done. I just can't sit still. The first time will probably be weird because they put this gel like thing under your eyes to keep your bottom lashes down. This is so they don't mingle in with the top lashes. But anyway my appointment was originally for 3D lashes but because she said this is my first time that maybe I should go with the 1D. She said when you come back and do the fill you can get the 3D fill. She said this is what most brides get because it will show up more in pics and really make your eyes pop. I have to say sitting there with my eyes closed for 1.5 hours was torture. Like I said I am antsy and can't keep still. If I were home lying on the couch taking a nap I wouldn't care to open my because. But because I couldn't open them today it was driving me crazy...lol

Anyway I love them and when I get the fill I will be getting the 3D fill which means they will even be more full. I took a before and after picture so you could see the difference.

Ok so another thing I did today was get my ring "dipped" as what I have heard people call it. And wow what a difference. The jewler said this should be done every 6 months to a year depending on your daily activity and lifestyle. I am telling you my engagement ring is shining now. I am just going to get it polished before I go and won't need to get it dipped now. Just going to polish to make sure it's shinning before I leave.

I bought flip flops today to wear with my second wedding dress. I didn't want anything too wedge-like or with heels (I have wedge shoes for my wedding day). My second dress though (for trash the dress) I figured a white flip flop will do just fine. I just bought these at la vie en rose while I was there buying swimsuits. These are ok because they have a little something on them. Nothing too fancy and they are pretty comfortable.

sandels

Another thing I did today was venture to the dollarstore (Dollarama to be exact). Remember, I was looking for something to put inside the tumblers so I could use them as vases. Well I seen these sea shells today at Dollarama for $1.50/set and thought they will do just fine. Maybe I can mix them with some sand from the resort and voila, my centre pieces. The bridal bouquets fit good in them too.

Excuse the ugly nail with the ugly color. I was testing out nail polishes today too hahahaha.

So I did some more shopping today too and bought a couple swimsuits and a cover up and a hat. Oh and I also bought lingerie for the wedding night. I won't show a picture of that because some things I shouldn't probably display here...hahaha Don't know if it will be used on the wedding night mind you because we will probably be too tired or drunk or both and just go to sleep. hahaha

Here is a pic of some of the things I bought (minus the lingerie). I bought shorts too which aren't in the picture.

UPDATE ON MY SECOND DRESS!!!!!!!!

I have to say this made me panic to no end. I probably had missus drove crazy with emails wondering where my dress was. Yeah I think this was my first ever bridezilla moment. Well I had a little breakdown today trying on bathing suits but that's on a regular basis when I try on bathing suits.
Anyway I was told by the seller that my dress would be here first week or so in March. It never came so I emailed and she said she would now be sending it out and it would get here by March 20th. I emailed here again and she said that it will be sent out and not to worry. Anyway it was the 18th I think and I sent here another email for an update and she said she will be sending out the dress and I will get it in time. So anyway, I ended up getting a tracking number and now it's on it's way. I honestly didn't think it would get here in time but it will be here MONDAY. I also contacted a seamstress in the area and asked her if it doesn't fit exactly would she be able to alter it considering she wouldn't have much time. So she said as soon as it arrives and it needs alterations to let her know. I can't wait to get it on Monday. As soon as I do and it zips up in the back, I will post pictures for sure.

Oh so anyone want to hear my break down moment in La Vie En Rose today. Well I hate trying on swimsuits or just cloths in general and I don't like sales people or anyone working in retail just being pushy and all up in your face. Well there was a missus today came up to me as soon as I walked in the door. She wanted to help and I said "nah I am just looking around." I needed time and space since having a face in mine for 1.5 hours getting lashes put on. Anyway I had an armful of swimsuits in my arm (different sizes because I had no idea what sizes I needed - it's been a while since shopping for swimsuits). Anyway the missus came over and asked if she wanted to start a dressing room for me. This was nice so I said "yes ok." So it came time for the dreaded trying on cloths or in this case swimsuits. I was in there tried on one and feeling frustrated pulling a sweater off me trying not to rip off lashes, warm, and just frustrated because the first one didn't fit. She comes to me outside the curtain and says "is everything ok in there? Would you like anymore sizes?" Well I had 7 swimsuits to try on and it took me a while. She must have came to the outside of that curtain like 7-8 times. Granted by that time I was really over heated, frustrated, confused about sizing and what fits best, angry, and just down on myself in general. I texted my friend (who knew I was going there to try on swimsuits( and I said in the text "If that lady comes here one more time asking about sizing and if I needed anymore help, I am going to lose it." Yeah I felt like a lunatic. Is it wedding madness and craziness setting in? Maybe...lol Anyway sorry for the blabbing I just thought you girls would need this too...lol

THINGS LEFT TO DO

I swear this list don't seem to get any smaller. Or could it be that I just keep adding things to it? Yeah maybe that's it.

- Groom still has to give in and listen to his future wife about buying groomsmen gifts. I gave up for a while though but it's time to start hounding again.
- Pick up thank you cards to go with those groomsmen/bridesmaids gifts and also for tip money to give to vendors.
- Brazillian wax (Yup I am doing this, don't know how but I am). Appointment is booked just need to cancel, I mean get the nerve up to go...lol
- Still need to work on music. Something fiancé is working on. Well leaving until the night before we leave.
- Print off welcome brochures.
- Finish Adventure book/Guest signing book.
- Get nails done and pedicure ( Appointment is booked).
- Print all receipts.
- Skype meeting with Krystie Ann for makeup.
- Second dress alterations if needed.
- Pick up wedding dress (Have the pick up appointment made).
- Get married legally here in Canada (Appointment is booked for April 6th).
- Get US cash.
- Pack (This will be a challenge I am sure).

I think that is all for now. As soon as I get my second dress on Monday, I will post pictures of that as well. I cannot wait to get it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
