Choosing A Resort...any Feedback Would Be Helpful!

Recommended Posts

@@Lia33 No problem and good luck! No offense to your sister, but if you want to find out if this is a travel agent that truly knows her stuff, ask if she has an IATA or CLIA number. Those are industry organizations - try to think of it as a Good Housekeeping seal of approval. If she is part of one of those (IATA is better but CLIA is still good) then she'll have access to more.

I'd also ask who she'd be booking your room block through. Two popular tour operators are Travel Impressions and MLT Vacations. Nothing wrong with booking directly with the hotel, but your perks won't be as good. Those are the ones who will help her to get you some good perks.

@@jeffandrobyn I will definitely ask her that!

I know the earlier rooms are blocked or reserved the better, but how early? I'm down to 11 months, STD's will be going out this week and official invites I'm thinking of sending in September so I have a better finalized idea of who will be attending. Do TAs block based on our estimate or RSVPs?

@@jeffandrobyn Well done! You've listed all of the exact reasons why brides really should work with a TA. It really will uncomplicate your life!!

And again.... I will recommend the owners of this site Wright Travel. Read the reviews about them. They have very special relationships with a lot of the resort chains and will definitely let you know if there are group perks available to you for the resort you've chosen.

Good luck and happy planning!

@@Lia33 a TA will block your rooms based on how many people you're expecting, yes. You'll likely need to put a deposit down on your room block, and then look at the policy for releasing the rooms. For example, if we don't release unused rooms by March 27th, we become financially responsible for them.

I'm getting married a few days before you (yay us!) and I'm planning to get save the dates out this month. Save the dates have my travel agent's contact information on them, so that should make things easier for my guests. My invitations will go out Dec/Jan.

I'm Liane and am in the very beginning stages of my wedding planning. I am narrowed down to three resorts - Valentin Imperial Maya, The Royal Playa del Carmen, and Excellence...

Anyone have any feedback that may be helpful?

You may want to consider the size of the resort, the biggest the less you find your friends during the other days than the wedding, also if it is big check how many speciality and buffet restaurants, disco or not disco, for kids games hall, cafe shops, and how many bard in the pools they have, I am sure so many will love it, I stayed in one where there where no waitress around in the pool, so all inclusive but had to walk for my beverages and was not close! lastly, check that the hotel has the 24hrs room service included, if It is fuel service or limited during the night ;)

Happy planning!

@@IvanLuckiePhotography - thank you for your feedback!

@@jeffandrobyn - Thanks for explaining this to me! For someone that has no idea how this all works in can be confusing in the beginning lol I'll wait to send out my save the dates next week when I know for sure whether or not I will work with this particular TA or another. I wasn't sure how soon after to send the invites but it makes sense to wait a little so people can actually start booking and invite rsvps will give me a better count of where people are.

Thanks for all of your feedback!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
