Congrats on your engagement, Tina!!! and welcome to our forum community :) there's no fear about anyone photo bombing your Wedding Day Love Story Photos when you have a professional in charge of capturing it!

not only do they screen their angles of coverage, but are also able to edit out (or in) any background details at will.... so Big Exhale for your fiance - it's all good :)

here's one of the magical wedding "moments that matter" Linc captured at the OGX some time ago ....with more at the album link here: OGX Wedding

Hello Everyone!!!

Ahhhh I am recently engaged and starting the process of planning.  As of right now I already feel overwhelmed! Right now we have 13 months and counting. The hardest thing for both me and my fiancé thus far has been choosing a place.

So far this is what we started off with:

Barceló Maya Palace - Recommended but after doing research it was not for us

Dreams Riviera Cancun - Loved the venue through pictures but we had a concern about the privacy and packages

Private Beach Clubs: Blue Venada & Grand Coral: Still Deciding on these

Occidental Grand Xcaret - I am currently researching this one and of course I am loving it.

Does any have any thoughts on this OGX?

I really want an island feel and am in LOVE with the Palapas Gazebo although someone mentioned that is right near the pool area and again the issue about privacy becomes a concern. Not so much for me but for my fiancé. In his words: I really don't want to have a wedding where in the photos are people with speedos and bikinis photo bombing our ceremony! hahahah Cant stop laughing about this comment however it's very true.

Any thought anyone??

With open arms and much appreciation...a overstressed bride to be....Tina

Congratulations Tina!

I was in the same boat a couple months ago, and trust me once you pick the place it's such a big load off your shoulders! I too feel in and out of love with so many resorts. There are so many amazing options, so to narrow it down you almost have to be super picky haha.

It really depends on what your "wedding wish list" looks like. For us, we wanted a reasonable price for our guests and for the wedding package, big enough so guests wouldn't have trouble booking but not too big that we couldn't find people, and not to far from the airport. Our flight is about 6 hours so we don't want too long of a drive after that. There were more things on our wish list and we did end up compromising on a few, but we are very happy with our choice.

I can say that our travel agent helped out SO much as well as this site and countless internet searches haha. I'm sure you'll find the perfect place! If you have any questions let me know, maybe I can help! Good luck and happy planning! :)

Hello McGee Bride! Wow your so lucky you found your place! so what did you end up going with? Your wish list sounds very similar to ours. I really want it to be convenient for all our guest too! I swear I have been thinking about this so much I started dreaming of it too!

I actually even contacted a wedding planner (wont name any names) and it was a little disappointing. She just kept pushing doing a private venue and said if we decide to go with a hotel then she basically wouldn't be of much help. :(  kind of depressing.

@@pddcmc! OMG! so you guys chose Dreams Riveria Cancun?! Seriously that is till one of my Choices on the list. I love their hotel rooms and wedding venue. Thanks for mentioning the different beaches, I had no idea that was an option. We really like the gazebo that they have but am concerned about the location of it being right next to the pool.

The TA that I have is very helpful but I feel like she is always trying to push "Certain" hotels rather than seeing our vision.

Im still on the fence though. I really love the xcaret location but not a fan of their beach.

Thanks for the help!

Tina

@@HerreraNovia my TA was pushing certain resorts too but I think they may be associated or preferred partners with them ... In the end I did my own research and told her where I wanted to book that wasn't on their web site and she helped me do the contract for them without giving me too much of a hassle so don't be afraid to say you want to keep looking or keep your options open or want other suggestions!

Here are a few things I learned when I was in the process of choosing my resort:

1) Take your time - I spent around 6 months looking at resorts online before I finally chose the perfect one for me.  There's no rush. You need to look at a lot of different factors; Wedding packages, Wedding venues for the ceremony and reception, Vacation package pricing for your guests, etc.

2) Don't let your TA make the decision for you or push you towards certain resorts.  This is YOUR wedding and you need to decide which resort is best for you.  This is one of the biggest decisions you will make throughout this whole process!  Don't book a resort unless you are 110% happy with your decision.

3) You need to know what price range your guests are comfortable paying to come to your wedding.  Otherwise, you'll end up booking a really nice resort and may be disappointed to find out that some people won't be able to come due to costs.  I really wanted to get married at Dreams or NOW, but my budget was $1600 per person so I couldn't book those hotels.  I ended up finding one within budget that I loved just as much.

This is a really fun, but confusing time in your wedding planning adventure!  Enjoy it!!

This forum is AMAZING and has lots of advice and information :)

@@HerreraNovia I feel your pain! I swear that was all I thought about for a couple months haha! @@MrsSheppardToBe is SO right, take you time! The right resort will come along. :)

Sorry to hear about the troubles with your wedding planner! We had some problems with our travel agent, we actually ended up firing her and finding a new lady. The lady we fired was coming back with quotes that were way too high and was also pushing us towards certain options. I wonder if she gets a nice commission from these private venues?

For us, one of the nice things about a destination wedding is that everyone can stay out as late as they want, relaxed and worry free, and then stubble back to their rooms. I'm assuming you'd need to travel to the private venue, which may not be as fun getting home. Just a thought, could also be worth it!

We ended up choosing Azul Sensatori! Got a great deal for guests, it's 20 minutes from the airport, 438 rooms, good layout, good wedding packages and the rooms are nice and modern (they all have jacuzzi's, ipod docks, rain showers, etc.). And you can get married on the roof or "Sky terrace". A few downsides were that the beach isn't the best and they charge an $800 outside vendor fee. After weighing all the pros and cons we decided it was perfect for us!

Hopefully that helps!

@@pddcmc I have never stayed at their resort before I have stayed at quite a few other in playa. But they were adults only and I have to choose one that is child friendly for my daughter and kids coming to the wedding.

@@McGee2Be OMG I love the Azul sensatory! I seriously was considering that one at one point. But what threw me off was whether or not is was adults only? Is it family friendly? Thanks for the info! All you girls are the best!!!

Sensatori is definitely family friendly- one of the best in fact! They DO have a section of adult only rooms in one building but 90% of the resort is catering to families with children and teens. This was the main reason we chose it as out location... That and the fact we are foodies and the food here is supposedly fabulous!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
