It makes total sense about the times now.  In February it gets dark around 5:30-5:45 ish so to have a wedding at 6pm would just be silly, it would be pretty dark!

My fiancée and I are booked for October of 2014 and so far communication is going really well. I really hope it stays this way, I have so much stress with work, that piling on stress from uncommunicative wedding planners would suck! So excited though and really wish the date would get here sooner!

I think we are going to end up doing something a little different for our cocktail hour/reception. It is only our close family who is making the trek to Mexico for the wedding (about 16) so we have decided to not have a traditional reception.  We have instead extended our cocktail hour to two hours and completely eliminated our reception.  I thought it might be a little odd to have only 2 round tables of 8 in a large space plus pay for all the decor/set up in another location.  Our ceremony is on the beach as well as our cocktail hours.  We have decided to get a bali bed and some other lounge furniture as well as the high bar tables.  I've spoken to Christina (my coordinator) and it's totally fine to do this.  We will have more (double) h'orderves served than a normal one hour cocktail hour and will do our first dance, father daughter dance, kind words from those who want to say a little something all on the beach during the cocktail hours.  We then will all go for dinner at either Ciao(Italian) or Zen(Asian) restaurants.  What is everyone else planning to do?
Hi Jen, I am not getting married till 2015 but am looking for price averages at different resorts so I can start saving. Do u mind me asking what the ceremony and reception are costing you? I'm planning on about 15-20 ppl attending and your choice of options is exactly what I had in mind.

Hey lulu0123!

The cost per person for 1 week all inclusive at the Hard Rock Cancun flying from Toronto in February is $1700 including tax.

We are just having the complimentary decor for the ceremony (and adding some personal touches Im bringing from home such as DIY chair sashes and pink rose petals for the isle) So that will essentially be free, maybe $100 for the decor Im bringing from home.   I was told someone from my wedding party can decorate with the stuff I brought from home before the ceremony so I won't be charged an additional $100 set up fee for the resort to do it.

We have earned a free 3 hour private function because of the number of room bookings we have.  To have the cocktail hours on the beach it will cost an additional $6 per person.  It is not costing us any additional money to get double the amount of apps since we are going to the restaurant instead doing the reception food.

To rent the 2 couch lounges and the BALI bed it cost about $700 for everything including set up and delivery (I negotiated to get this price it was originally going to cost $850)

$100 - Ceremony

$96 - Beach Cocktail Hour (2 hours)

$700 - Lounge Furniture

_____________________

$896 TOTAL Ceremony and extended cocktail hour price

There might be other things that come up or we want to add but this is our current total.

I gave myself a budget of $1500 to spend but I am the queen of DIY and money saving so Iâ€ve made it a personal challenge to do it for as little as possible.  I still want it add some more personal and unique touches to it but that is where Im at right now for price.

Hope this helps!

Hi all!! I am looking at getting married at the Hard Rock Cancun in May 2015. We are bringing a large group (close to 125 people). Any suggestions on how to save money?!? They are charing an arm and a leg for the reception for that many people! Any one else have a large group or suggestions on how to keep the reception costs down?!

  • 3 weeks later...

We had an amazing time!  I couldn't have asked for a better experience.  Everything was better than I could have imagined.  I'll list and review some things...but if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

The hotel itself was great.  The food was wonderful, the drinks were plentiful, and the staff was very helpful...I have no complaints about the hotel...other than...the lobby bar is in the middle of the hotel.  Since this is not an adults only resort, there were kids everywhere...including the bar area.  Also, the discotheque does not open until 11:30 at night...which by that time most everyone was tired from all the activities during the day.  Other than that...everything else was pretty great!

The actual wedding day was so easy!  They handled everything and I didn't have to worry about anything.  Cintya is so very sweet and made sure everything went perfectly.  I also had a friend be in charge of getting everyone down to the beach on time for the wedding...this helped a lot.  I went with the complementary package and just changed a few of the details.  First off I got rid of that gold tree branch thing.  I went with hot pink roses for all of my flowers...including the ones in the vase at the alter.  I changed the gold vase to a clear glass vase as well.  The flowers were beautiful and I was really happy with the quality of my bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets, and the groomsman's boutonnieres.

The reception was held on the Breeze Terrace on the 3rd floor instead of the planned Infinity Terrace.    Cintya said it would be better so we went with that and she was right.  Everything was set up beautifully.  You have your own personal bar and bartender.  It was a buffet dinner, but it was tastefully done and I have no complaints.  We chose the Mediterranean Buffet and the food was delicious!  The only thing I changed on the menu was the fig tart to a fruit tart.  One thing to consider...I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to spend the money to set up an ipod speaker system...I believe it is $395 for just 2 hours.  I decided against it and I'm glad I did.  There was another wedding reception just below us with a loud DJ and all.  We were able to listen to their music and I didn't have to pay for it.  So, you may want to check to see if there will be other receptions going on at the same time and what their music situation will be.  I don't believe we would have been able to hear ours with the one below us going on as well.

We used the hotel's affiliated photographer from Ocean Photo Studio.  I was a little worried about using them without knowing which photographer we were going to get and seeing their personal work beforehand.  I went with the deluxe photography package for $1,755.  I am still waiting on getting my pictures and video back.  However, in the meantime they sent me some pictures so that I could use them for our home reception.  I'll post them in a separate thread so I don't take over this one.

Please feel free to ask me anything about our experience.  :)

I'm excited and so ready to get to Mexico! How were the rooms? How did you choose your food? I'm so happy that you had a great experience. Thank you so much for your review for us!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
