At Home Receptions

Recommended Posts

We were planning on having one and have been telling people we would. But now we are reconsidering it (or at least I am). FI mom has offered to help pay (since she gave us a huge guest list if we have it). If we do it I want it to be very simple. nothing reception-y.

I didn't want a big wedding and I don't really want a big party either. As others have said, we would rather save the money for a house.

I'm torn on this also. We want to have one and I was hoping to have a dinner, but the prices I've been quoted are outrageous. I might as well just have a huge wedding reception with the prices they are quoting me. I thought about renting out a lounge and having drinks and hor dorours (can't spell) but even that is getting pricey when I talked to the owner. We thought about a backyard thing but wanted to get married in Nov/Dec and it's way too cold here for something outside. Ugh, too many decisions.

We are having an AHR. Initially we were having two (one in SC where we live and one in MD where my family lives). However, we are just having one now b/c most of my family/extended family are actually coming to the wedding.

Tom is part owner of an Oyster Bar/Restaurant here in SC, so we are closing it down from 2-6pm on a Saturday about a month after our wedding ... and having the AHR on the rooftop deck there. It will be very casual and laid back. Low Country Boil and open bar. I'll wear my wedding dress again ... just b/c I want to :-).

We are incuding the DW and AHR info on our invitations and asking for an RSVP for both ... since many people who can't attend the DW should be able to come to the AHR.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
