Legal wedding or renewal of vows??

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone, I am having trouble deciding whether to have a legal wedding in Dominican or legally get married in Canada and then go to Dominican and have renewal of vows (although have it look like a wedding there so no one can tell the difference). I need some advice from others who are getting married in Dominican or already have been married there. I REALLY want to have a legal wedding there. However, my travel agent informs me that 90% of people get legally married before since the paperwork for translating in English is expensive and confusing. Has anyone who had a legal wedding there found this to be true? And if you legally get married in Canada, how close do you do it before you leave? I wouldnt wanna get married here and then a month later go to Dominican...the excitement would have gone down by then! I just need some advice...thanks!

While I am not from Canada, I am from Michigan, I was also told by my TA to get married here first if I am okay with doing that. She said it is expensive and will be a hugs hassle for us to get legally married in the DR. She said that in the DR you need so much more paperwork, test, legalities, than you do in other countries with Destination Weddings. They are very strict. I do not have a problem getting married here before we go. We are just going to do a quick little Justice of the Peace marriage and keep it our secret. :-)

I cannot be of help on how to get married before in Canada. Here you get married at the courthouse by a judge.

I hope I helped somewhat! Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
