NCalver completely AGREED w your take on this. My reasons exactly for marrying in a catholic chapel. We def need to bring our own unity candles. They dont provide that. If you look in Michaels or Hobby lobby they always have sales for them. I believe we got ours for bout $10.

@Christen--SUPER helpful post! Definitely put me at ease.  Also, I am going with Doremixx because I have seen so many good reviews for them, including yours :) I really think I'm the only person on the planet who does not have a photographer friend so I guess I'll be upgrading to an outside vendor cause the packages for the resort are not great; I also want a videographer but my WC is saying that even if it's the same company doing the video and pictures, I have to pay 2 separate $350 outside vendor fees! Not too happy about that.  The other thing I'm a bit concerned with is how simply decorated the tables at the reception will be unless my mom and I get creative and throw more stuff on there.

@posts regarding the laso and coins:  I am excited to do these traditions because I am Colombian and we too practice these traditions during catholic weddings, but I understand if non-Hispanic Catholics have never heard of them and don't want to do them.  My fiance is a Caucasian American Catholic and I had to teach him about these traditions; he thought they were pretty awesome once I explained what they meant.  But it really is more of a Hispanic Catholic tradition rather than a universally Catholic one, so I think you can definitely be a good Catholic and not know about them or want to do them.

Ok I never called anyone ignorant. I was simply pointing out that even though it adds to the to do list. Reading up on the meanings of it may ease your mind on doing the traditional stuff. Because of its symbolic meanings. I also suggested beach for those who wanted to design here own ceremony. I myself never knew about them growing up. Even though catholic. But am marrying into a traditional Mexican family from Mexico. Since the announcement of our wedding the older women in his family have gone into there rooms to there secret hiding places and showed me there coins. They seem just as special to them as our rings do to us. They also flock to the opportunity to buy them for the next runner up. So I just meant to not stress over it.

Has anyone used or heard any reviews about Caribbean Emotions for photography and video? They are rated #2 on the vendor reviews here on BDW but I wanted to see if anyone on the forum had actually worked with them or known someone who has.

Also, just learned from my WC that if you add the cocktail reception after your ceremony, it's not really a cocktail reception, it is a sparkling wine reception--if you want an open bar, it's an extra $5/pp.  I asked if they could at least just do a signature cocktail and she said no, it's either sparkling wine or an open bar :(

This is really annoying but not at all surprising. $5 for welcome bag delivery, $5 for an open bar, seems like there is a hidden cost on everything... I could understand a small charge to set up the bar, but not even letting you do a signature cocktail is just crappy. I wonder if they would let you do something in place of sparkling wine.... I'm sure it's crappy stuff anyway... Starting to get really frustrated with this place. We are up to 65-75 people coming to the resort for our wedding and they wouldn't even give us a couple free day passes ...

I feel like I've tried asking for things and have no power because it's not like we can move the wedding. Has anyone been successful in negotiating and what was your strategy? I negotiate a lot in my job and usually everyone is willing to help you out a little bit when you are bringing them tons of business. I hate to go that way but I feel like the next approach will be to basically pitch a fit about how they have been completely inflexible and I will be making sure my reviews reflect that. Especially when it takes me a week to hear back about anything and my wedding is now within 100 days... It's taken a lot of the joy out of planning a wedding because I am so nervous about hidden charges.

Sorry to vent, girls! I don't want to stress out my mom or my fiance, so it's better to vent on here instead :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
