Dreams La Roman vs. Dreams Punta Cana? Help?!

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies!

We are trying to decide between Dreams PC and Dreams LR for fall/winter 2012. We like the more private beach location at DLR, but not the 2 hour van ride to the airport. Any advice from brides that are considering either resort or have been married at either would be greatly appreciated! Any pictures of the actual ceremony at Dreams would be fabulous too! Thanks!!

Hi VB,

Congratz and happy planning!!

I'm in the early stages of planning for a wedding at DLR. My fiance and I visited last year and I absolutely fell in love with the resort. I think you should definitely check out the DLR thread to view the wonderful pictures to get a better idea of the layout, beach, etc. As for the two hour ride from the Santo Domingo airport, I believe starting this November, Jet Blue will be offering non-stop flights directly to La Romana, which is about 15 minutes away from the resort.

Vancouver Bride,

Congrats on your destination wedding!

My fiance and I are getting married at Dreams La Romana next November - 2012.  We also visited - this past July - and we LOVED it, its absolutely gorgeous, and the staff is amazing.

We took a direct flight to Santo Domingo - the drive is only about and hour and 25 minutes, its not 2 hours - and it really isnt a bad drive at all, seems much faster.

JetBlue is starting direct flights from JFK airport in NYC to La Romana this November - so you will be able to fly direct from there.  You can get direct flights into La Romana now, but they are a little more expensive and less frequent (I think its American Airlines).

Also, La Romana is almost 1/2 the price of Punta Cana to stay at, so this is great for your guests.  The reason its less money is because the resort is newer, and La Romana isn't as much of a tourist area as Punta Cana.  Its gorgeous in La Romana - the resort is surrounded by jungle, and is on the Caribbean Sea (Punta Cana resort is on the Atlantic).  Theres a huge reef right at the beach in La Romana to the one side, which is beautiful.

The La Romana staff also deals with less weddings - about 350 a year, where Punta Cana does over 600.  Our wedding coordinator at La Romana told us its much more personal at La Romana because of this.

I havent been to Dreams Punta Cana, but I have also heard wonderful things about that resort - the staff at all of the Dreams resorts are unbelievable, so you can't go wrong at either one - Dreams La Romana was just our favorite and the best fit for us!

Good luck with your planning & let us know what you decide!!

Hi Vancouver Bride!

I am getting married at Dreams PC on November 15, 2011 and have had nothing but great communication with my WC.  From the pictures that I've seen and the reviews that I've read, I am very pleased with our decision to have our wedding there.  Of course I'll post my own pictures afterwards, but enjoy your planning!

It was a very close call, but we decided on Dreams La Romana for Nov 2012!!!!!!! I am confident that we would be happy at either Dreams, but we chose this one because of the more private beach, smaller resort, and "island feel" our planner told us about.

Thanks again for all the help and advice ladies!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
