Wedding Registry and Gifts

Recommended Posts

  • 4 weeks later...

We planned on not registering because, like many of you, we feel that people attending our DW is like a gift.  I know it's costing them a lot more than attending a local wedding.  So, I would feel bad if we registered.  However,  this forum is making me realize that gifts are not just about us.  Some people just like giving gifts. Truly we don't really need anything.  Money would be great! But I don't think that would go over well. I wonder if we register somewhere like Target, if we can return the gifts and use the store credit for things we actually need like laundry detergent and paper towels.  I know, it sounds tacky! But at least it would go towards something I actually need.

We too didn't plan on registering, but there were some people who were adament that they purchase us a gift.

You could always check with target and ask what their policy is when returning gifts from registrys.

I would be very careful with doing something like that.  If you are registering for gifts, then you are giving the impression that that is what you want since you are putting it on a list of possible gifts.  People would be very hurt I think that you just did it to essentially get money for essentials.  You may want to just not register then if you get money you are set and if you get a gift, most people will provide a gift receipt so you can return it to the store.

My FI and I were not planning on having a shower or registering for gifts or anything like that. When my family found out they were very upset. We tried explaining that everyone was paying so much to go on the trip. We had family that insisted that we register. So what we did is registered and told those who asked about it. We did not include it on the invitation or anything. For the shower my bridal party will include it on the invitation.

I also agree the with post above in regards to returning gifts. One of my closest friends did an entire registry with the intention of returning everything. Some people were very upset when they heard that she returned the gifts. If you do not want people to buy gifts I would just tell them you prefer monetary gifts or giftcards.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
