Hi Everyone! My name is Adele, and my fiancee and I got engaged in Cancun in April, and we're now planning our wedding at the Gran Bahia Principe in Riviera Maya in December 2011. I'm eager to continue and finalize plans with my guests, etc, but our Travel Angent tells us that final prices and official bookings cannot be done untll April 2011. These are apparently when (the prices are released). Is anybody having a similiar issue?

YES! Which makes it very hard to plan.  I am having my wedding on December 28, 2011 in Puerto Vallarta.  All travel agents can tell me is that for when I will be traveling from Chicago it will be very expensive, which I was aware of already.  They just give me a price range base on previous years, but you do have to wait until the airlines have their flights out for that time of year in order to be able to know prices and try and book group rates.

When in December is your wedding?

Good luck with all of you planning!

        Hi girls,

I'm also planning for December 2011, although I haven't chosen a location/date yet. I heard from a TA that the rates are just starting to come out now. I think you should be able to book sooner than you thought!

Congrats Manda! Good luck with your planning! Do you know what destination that you want?  You are going to find so much great information on here.

My travel agent still isnt too hopeful for prices soon, but I hope they are out sooner than the groups department is telling her.

In some cases, you can still book your day,but you'll be paying a premium and they'll be estimating the price(on the high side).

It's better to wait, unless you don't mind overpaying.

            Good luck with your planning!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think she means, you can pay the resort to reserve your date. I have found that many resorts ask that you put an inital down payment to hold the date, then that payment is transferable to your wedding costs, or your room costs, or whatever you want to apply it toward. It is completely seperate from paying for your wedding or down payments for the wedding at this stage though. Does that make sense?

Yes, I think you are correct that you can reserve your date I am sure before rates are out.  I just don't know much about this because I am not getting married at a resort.  I am just looking for a resort to spend the week with guests and airfare.  Thanks though!

                    Adele -

I booked my wedding at Azul Sensatori for November 2011 in September.  We have a price locked in and my guests are in their booking period right now.  My TA never told me anything about waiting until after the new year for pricing.  But maybe it is different at different resorts.

                    Good luck and happy planning!
