Where to get married Cancun or Punta Cana?

I am trying to research great locations for an AI destination wedding.  I really like Cancun / Riviera Maya but am thinking about Punta Cana too.  I'm thinking Punta Cana b/c I have some travel concerns about Mexico right now and there are Casino's in Punta Cana and my grandmother enjoys gambling, but not so much hot weather or beaches. lol

I've seen some mixed reviews about Dreams Punta Cana and Dreams Palm Beach.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

I do not know much about Punta Cana, but I can tell you not to worry about travel to Cancun/Riviera Maya.

All of the issues you hear/read about are around the border towns... nice and far from any tourist towns (like Cancun).  I've been there 2 times in the past 6 months (and going again in a few weeks), and can assure you there were no concerns at all.

Good luck, and happy planning!

I am struggling with the exact same decision myself!! Riviera Maya vs Punta Cana...I go back and forth. The prices look about the same based on my research so far.. just having problems narrowing down the resorts. I've done lots of reading of this awesome forum and it sounds like picking the location is the hardest part!

As far as the violence in Mexico, I was concerned with that, too, but in looking at the US State Dept's website, there doesn't seem to be any problems at the Cancun/RM area related to the drug trafficking issues. Just your normal be safe in foreign countries kind of thing, like don't go out late at night esp by yourself, etc. So I wouldn't let that stop you from considering the area.

I don't know much about Dreams, but all the wedding-type reviews I've read say that they do a GREAT job with destination weddings. Do a search and you'll find LOTS of Dreams brides' posts.

Seems to be great AI resorts at both places, just a matter of what works best for you and your guests!

82turtles good luck with your search can't wait to hear what you choose.  The water is bluer in Mexico so that's a plus for there.  Mexico does require blood work where DR doesn't for civil or religious weddings.  The drug trafficking was a concern of mine too but I've heard the same as you where the resort areas are safe.  I've e-mailed a few of the Dreams resorts and am waiting to hear back from them.

Thanks for all of the help everyone!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
