4 or 5 pm wedding in May???

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I am trying to decide if we should get married at 4 or 5pm in Negril in May. I have read that the sun sets around 6:30pm and my concern with having the later ceremony time is that we won't have enough time for pictures. Also, if there is any delay to rain (which i have also read is frequent in late afternoon) this would also limit our photog time. The nice thing about the later time is that it will be cooler and allow us more time to get ready. I have thought about possibly taking some pictures before hand but would want to make sure that none of my guests saw me which would be hard to do at the AI resort we are all staying at...what should I dohuh.gif?

Hi BeachBride83,

I am getting married at 5pm. The sunsets later in DR where we will be but, as far as I know, the ceremony lasts only about 20 mins or so. So even if you do 5pm you figure you have a good hour to get your pictures in or you can opt for the 4pm start time. I'm not sure about you, but can't imagine that it would take the ENTIRE day to get ready, even for wedding. Just make sure you get to bed on time and wake up at a reasonable time to get an early start to the day. Not sure if you work out, but I always try to get a good sweat session in on the day of an event as it makes me more radiant for some reason. Let us know what you decide!

I think morning is better as far as pictures go. I've seen pictures from brides who were married in the afternoon and brides married in the morning. The colors are so much more vivid in the morning. This is why we choose a 10am wedding. Plus we have been told by our photographer who live in Jamaica that in the morning it's less chance for rain. And it does rain some in May. Another factor was that a morning wedding wouldn't be a hot as an afternoon wedding. The beach seems much busier later in the day as well. We are getting married on the beach at Couples Swept Away.

we are having a 4pm wedding. And usually between 11-3pm is when you have showers if its not a rainy day entire day. My FI lives in Jamaica. 5pm should be a good time for ceremony then pics afterwards. Its just hard to perdict weather in the islands.

Aggh, I don't know what to do! :) If it does rain and we have the 4pm wedding, then I will be ok becuase with the delay we will still have plenty of time for pics. If it rains during the 5pm slot and we have to delay it, that doesn't leave much time. Also, if the ceremony lasts 1/2 hour and then we do the traditional pictures with the fam, that only leaves a half hour or so for pics on the beach and then when does the photgrapher take pictures of the reception set-up, etc?? I want her to be able to take those pictures when it is light out. I am clearly really stressed about this! I wish they would let me do a 4:30! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
