Hello!

We want to get married on January 29, 2011 and have started looking into different Riviera Maya resorts...

We are interested in Excellence Playa Mujeres, Excellence Riviera Maya, and Secrets Maroma Beach.

Any pros/cons or suggestionshuh.gif

Honestly, all of those are great - it really depends on the location you want. Each one is different so that is what I would take into consideration. I've been speaking to the WC at both Secrets and Excellence and they have been responsive and organized so far - which is refreshing after dealing some other resorts who take weeks to get back to you.

Are you planning a trip down to do site visits? That will probably be best to help you make a decision - mine are all in a month - can't wait!

good luck!

That is my dilema as well. I am looking at Excellence Riviera Maya and Secrets Maroma but can't make my decision as they both seem nice. I hired Destination Weddings to help and she thought that Secrets is a little small and was trying to push El Dorado Royale. Secrets is a little cheaper but seems equally as nice. I know people that have gone to Excellence Riviera Maya and loved it but do not know anyone that has visited Secrets Maroma. Let me know what you come up with!!!!!!1

Hailee - I was also torn between Secrets Maroma and Excellence Riviera. My fiancee and I sat down and put a list together of the pros and cons of each and finally decided to go with Excellence Riviera.

We were looking for a resort with a lot of pools, many options for dinner and most importantly to look like a Mexican resort. I've stayed in many resorts in Mexico where it doesn't even feel like I'm in Mexico rather in any other place in the world. Given that Secrets Maroma just recently opened the grounds were not fully grown and the layout of the pools was not ideal for us.

Also, while emailing with the WC for both I felt a lot more comfortable with the Excellence team. I participated in a webinar, which I think is coming up again, for the Excellence resorts and at the end decided this was our best choice, for us.

Best of luck!

HI Hailee - Although I haven't been to the Excellence Riviera Maya, I went to the one in the Dominican last year and it was absolutely gorgeous. AND since we got engaged soon after our Dominican trip and i knew that i wanted a Destination wedding in Mexico, we chose Excellence Riv. Maya and like Ranaya just mentioned..it has a ton of pools, many different restaurants and the beaches look awesome, check out their website, talk to the Wedding Coordintor Ramon, i think you may find it's an easy choice...Good luck!!!!

Hello.

We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach when it opened, the beach is perfect there, but the service was horrible and I can not imagine trying to plan a wedding with the staff there.

Excellence Playa Mujeres was wonderful! The beach was not perfect, lots of sea grass, but it did not both us and they clean it up every morning. The service is amazing, we just loved it, not one complaint. We got engaged on the beach there and now we are going to get married on the beach there on 9.3.10. :-)

Let me know if you have questions about either resort, I know it is hard to make a major choice like this without having all the information.

Hope this was somewhat helpful to you.

Good Luck!

Smiles,

Shanna

we chose Secrets Maroma for our HM b/c of the beach!!! The resort opened in 2008 and had issues with service at the beginning. I've spoken to several people who have HMed there within the last year and they absolutely loved it!! had nothing but amazing things to say about the service, grounds, food, beach, on and on.

on a different note, I am getting married at Dreams Cancun (sister resort) and I will say that the communication with the WC is VERY slow...especially at the beginning. now that our wedding is 7 months away, Cecilia replies to emails quickly, usually within a couple of days. At first this was a big concern for me. But after reading all of the great reviews on here, I just learned to relax and trust that my wedding will be amazing!!

We were married at Secrets Maroma and stayed there for 5 nights with our group and it was AMAZING, I cannot say enough great things about everything about the resort, staff and our wedding was fantastic.  We went to the Excellence Riveria Cancun for our honeymoon and it did not compare, it was nice dont get me wrong but Secrets is by far one of the nicest resorts I have ever stayed at and would suggest it to anyone.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
