how do you know your perks?

i am still working with my original TA (sigh - there are posts on the venting board on this) - and she mentioned that the 1st hour of the cocktail party would be on her as long as we had 16 full paying guests.

would i just call the celebrity cruise group line to find out all the potential perks? that sounds just like some of the perks that you get on RCL and Carnival so i wanted to make sure i knew where to get the info.

tia!

I would like to know this as well because we will likely have around 45-50 guests. I want some perks! I would like to have an extra hour of reception for free. My DJ includes 4 hrs and my reception only includes 3 so I would like another hour of bar for free to match the DJ. I don't think that should be such an issue.

goNDmay9,

It sounds like your TA is trying to take credit for giving you something that your GROUP already deserves. Usually cruise lines give incentives to all their guests. For example I am using NCL. My TA told me some of the incentives that may be available. I am not sure of the exact details, but usually the incentives that are available are caluculated by amenity points based on how much the ship sales. Going back to the actual incentives that are given: - 1 hr. cocktail party - cold or hot Hors d'oeuvres, onboard $$ credit, off shore excursion, gift basket, and many many more options based on the number of amenity points for that specific cruise and sail date. Along with all those fun amenity options.....for every 8 cabins=16 passengers you get a free berth. Which means that you can have an additional free passenger (just pay taxes) or roll the savings to everyone so that their ticket is a little less expensive. I would definitely check with the cruise line to see what options you may have. And then talk to your TA so that you get the incentive you want. Good Luck.

Before I had picked a TA to take care of our bookings. I had called NCL and talked to Group Reservations. I spoke with someone very helpful. Every cruise line may be different. But I know that you can deal with NCL directly and book your group.

The only thing is... I don't think you can pick when to take the free hour. They might be accomodating, but otherwise they will tell you when you can have your free hour cocktail or party that you choose.

thanks westx!! i finally got a hold of someone at celebrity and they told me the same thing. How many "points" you get is based on which cruise you are on. Really popular cruises tend to give you less points, and the less booked ones give you more. You can split those points up however you wish. HOWEVER, she did tell me that the points are actually awarded to the TA! And that if I booked on my own without a TA, you do not get them!!! interesting!

The "points" are awarded to the TA, not the group leader. It's up to the TA to distribute them as they wish. This should be explained to you up front if they are keeping any for themselves etc. There is a list that can be provided by the TA of what you can choose from. For example, in most cases our agency turns over all points to the group (not always, but most). Depends on the cruise. However we don't supply the list & choose perks until closer to sail date. Your group numbers can change up and down through the months and promising you something today doesn't mean you'll actually get it when half your group cancels at final payment time. That's just a set up for disappointment. But again, we explain all of that up front so you don't think we're hiding anything from you.

As for the cocktail party, no he/she is not taking credit for it necessarily. Cocktail parties have restrictions and require a minimum # of people to get them for free (paid for by "points") or the group gets charged for them. So it is just as possible that your TA is paying $12pp for the cocktail party out of her pocket & the minimum provided by her is just a # she came up with. Usually you have to have 50ppl to get the free cocktail party.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
