Wedding dates and kids?

Recommended Posts

I was just looking at another website and a person asked what they thought about her taking her child out of school for a cruise vacation. There were mixed opinions. Heres my thing we choose the date 12-11-10 because the cruise leaves the next day we decided to get married in Florida and if guest wanna cruise they are more than welcome to come. Were only inviting parents and siblings. My sister is the only one with kids(niece will be a 2nd grader and nephew will be in kindergarten). Me and the FH have 4 kids(son will be a senior, 2 middle school kids and 1 in 3rd grade). The wedding is 1 week b4 they would get out of school for the winter break. Reading some of these responses has me 2nd guessing my decision. The price is right and within our budget but the prices def go up while kids are on break. Hmmmm my kids dont care about getting out of school lol but I feel bad for asking my sis to come down to Florida. Our wedding is a Saturday and cruising is a option for our guest. But the cruise is for us and our kids. Darnit lol. Any teachers out there? What is the work like right before winter break? The date isnt set in concrete yet bc we havnt put our deposit down on the cruise.

Thanks! smile124.gif

I'm a teacher and I can definitely say missing a few days of school right before Christmas break is no big deal. Parents pull their kids out of school all the time around the holidays. With kindergarten and 2nd graders especially, they aren't missing any big tests or project deadlines - they might miss their class holiday party, but that would be all. I think you should leave your date as is if it's the best fit for your budget.

Thanks! Im gonna see how they are with the holidays this year just to see what it would be like next year. My son will be a senior and I dont want him missing any test but he has told me they usually dont do much the week before the holidays. The whole reason were doing the wedding in Florida is so the family will be able to see the ceremony, the cruise is a bonus lol. We decided to take our kids on this cruise last year and recently added the wedding to the plans lol. Financially I dont think my sister will make the cruise w/o our help so we'll see.

I think it depends on where you are at in school. I know here in Houston our middle school and high school kids will have finals because it the end of the 6 weeks and then end of the semester is at that same time. I know my mom and dad had to pull my little brother last year because of a death, so the informed his teacher and he took his tests early. The little one should have no problems.

I am not a teacher but I will be pulling my kids out for 2 weeks in the middle of the semester (november). But I also believe that the experiences and knowledge they will pick up there will stay with them longer than what they will learn in school. The family time is invaluable. There is nothing that could replace the memories and experiences they will have. It does not need to be time without learning. I believe that they will learn it better and remember it for longer when they see and experience these things first hand. The classroom cannot replace that!

Having said all that I am also sure some kind of homework or something will be sent along!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
