I am not sure if I understand your complete question....but we are getting legally married here in Colorado and having a symbolic ceremony in Mexico. I've talked with our wedding coordinator at Mp and she assured me that no one will know the difference as we don't want anyone to know we aren't getting legally married there.

The costs associated with the legal part of things were enormous, and quite honestly annoying. I want to go there to have a blast and not worry about apostilles or blood tests....and don't forget the extra like $500 for all of that!

So we are opting for the cheap and easy route. $35 for our license in Colorado and $0 worries while in Mexico!

Yippee!

I also have no idea who's coming to the wedding, but as you may have seen above I have a bit of a different situation.

I also didn't do a room block or anything because we have access to my fiance's parents' presidential membership, and he booked a few rooms through that to save our guests some big time money.

If you haven't looked in to it, check out this website also:

Palace Resorts Membership Rental; Moon Palace, Aventura Palace, Cozumel, Beach, Xpu-Ha, Cancun and More.

They charge a $149 fee but you pay the resort directly and get VIP stay, $2211 per couple. Not bad! I never spoke with a travel agent so I'm not sure if you can do that through them also?

I'm definitely doing all my legal stuff up here in Vancouver, but because we're still doing that symbolic ceremony, they're still providing an officiant. I was wondering if we could have a family member or friend do that instead of whomever they provide? It'd be more personal that way. My WC is out of town until Monday so if you guys aren't sure, I'll shoot her an email to figure that one out!

Hope everyone's doing well!

I'm doing all the legal stuff here in K.C and the symbolic ceremony at Moon. I agree there requirements are overly priced and annoying.

I'm doing mine in KC as well! We just reserved our date...Jan. 23. We are doing it in Independence since they have Saturday appointments. FI thought we could just take a few hours off work on Friday and go downtown straight from work...I know that I said that I don't want this to feel like our wedding in any way, but I'd prefer not to be in a ponytail and scrubs! Haha! We aren't telling anyone either. We're just going to keep it to ourselves!

Gotta have that paperwork on time!
They told me that it would take 2-3 weeks if I remember correctly or you could just walk the unofficial paperwork over to the courthouse and they would make it official there. I think that's probably what we'll do.

We are actually getting married on Feb 17th legally here due to the need to transfer my FI over to my insurance. Then I am renewing my passport to be in my new married name before our trip....I need it for my job anyhow so I might as well get it done. i spoke with MP and they said it makes no difference if my maiden or married name is on my passport. Since it is a symbolic wedding they will write down either name I want on the symbolic certificate. So, pretty easy!

***Also, this probably doesn't apply to anyone here but I found this ridiculous. If you are getting married within one year of a divorce Mexico requires you take a pregnancy test along with the blood test. It's like an additional $150. $150 BUCKS to pee on a stick! Crazyness!!!***

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
