I found out that the palapa is already booked for day that I am intending on getting married and I need to choose a location for the wedding ceremony and reception. I would like it all to be as private as possible for us and our 30-35 guests. Ara has said we could have the snack bar for reception and a wedding ceremony on "playa nueva" part of the beach. Does anyone know which part of the beach is considered playa nueva and is it a private part of the beach? If the reception is in the snack bar is it private enough and big enough to comfortably hold the guests inside?

Ara has also suggested the yoga space as a back up if there is bad weather. Has anyone seen this place? And pictures would be great, I can't seem to find any pictures of it.

We are thinking of going to a restaurant for the reception. Which one would be best for 30-35 guests. Do the guests have to choose from the restaurant menu offered or can we have a set menu?

Any information would be helpful!

Welcome and congrats!  I hate to say but it's me who has the palapa that day, LOL.  Hopefully we can exchange some useful info since we have the same wedding day!!

I love that little snack bar area for a reception...at night, that part of the resort is quiet. It is also a really easy area for guests to get back and forth to from their rooms. That's where they'll hold special bbqs or lobster dinner evenings. I posted a picture of the beach looking out from the snack bar in this thread quite a while back. I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be room to seat 35 of you under the roof of the snack bar...I've only ever seen it set up with the tables and chairs on the beach next to the snack bar.

Are they suggesting the yoga space for your ceremony in bad weather? I don't know that I have a picture of this space, but I'll look when I get home tonight. It's just an open area along one of the paths with a thatched covering. There is lots of lush greenery around. The staff would do their best I'm sure to keep the general public out of the way and out of your photos, but it's still not as private and out of the way as the palapa/beach area.

I've never heard of a reference to "Playa Nueva" at the GS, so I'm not sure if this is a new area they've groomed for weddings, or if this is the area of the main beach around/in front of the ruin. If so, this is not a private area but they do their best to keep the general public out of the way and out of your photos. I would also guess that the later you hold your ceremony, the fewer the people who will be hanging around there.

Armour, if you go to Trip Advisor and search thru the Traveller Photos for Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Hotel and Spa, there is a recently posted (July '12) photo of the beach snack bar. It's titled "Beach Bar". You'll see how it's set up during the day...just a small number of high tables and barstools.

Actually, if you hop on to Trip Advisor fairly quickly (before anyone loads new photos) you'll see good views of the beach bar with photos #216, 584, 678, 749, 1088, 1446 and 1948. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe photos #695, 756 and 807 show the space with the thatched roof that is used for yoga (along the path of the lazy river).

Longpoint,

I The only information that I have at this point is pricing for 2013 weddings, which should be helpful to you if you don't already have it. Something to keep in mind is that unlike a lot of the other hotels that I looked at, they will not substitute anything out for other things (for example, if you don't want the DJ, and hoped to swap it out for hair and makeup- they will not do this). This was disappointing for me because after seeing pictures on this site I want the presidential suite but I don't need or want all of the items in that package. Also, I have heard on this site that Mexicans seem to have a different selection of packages, not sure if it is just a different name or if it's a different package altogether. This is what she sent me knowing that I was from Canada.

MJKH: Thank you for all the helpful information and pictures. This is a great forum and I keep referring back to it. I'm still not sure which place we will have the reception but the snack bar place sounds nice!

The yoga place was suggested as a back up location but I really wanted the intimacy of a more private place..which the yoga studio may work (if it's not too small!).

sgreen99: Very cool to find the other person having a wedding the same day as me! I didn't really know if I wanted the palapa, but it looks like it will be a great spot for a reception..enjoy!

Let me know if you have any info, anything is helpful considering Ara's lack of urgency in returning emails!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
