  1. Hi ladies, I had my wedding at GS in May 2013, a bit of feedback about questions being asked: We used Photos in Cancun as our photographer, and they were great! We got 2300 photos from them, but are waiting on the edited versions (250 total), mostly because we had a crazy summer and didn't pick which ones we wanted until recently. The resort photographer showed up (I knew from this forum to tell them not to show, but forgot), and it was TERRIBLE. The girl was dressed in jeans and a short sleeve shirt, looked very unprofessional, and got in the way of our photographer. She is in a bunch of our vow pictures which sucks. Also, they gave us 10 free photos I think, and they were all terrible. We actually meant to make a complaint to the resort about how unprofessional the company was (again, it's the same company who brings the monkey around and takes pictures of you with it). I would highly NOT recommended them. As for the cocktail hour, we did end up having to get an extra hour of open bar in between the cocktail hour and palapa opening up to give us time to do pictures. If not, the guests would have only had one glass of champagne for the whole time we were doing our pictures, and it's pretty far to go to the bar to get a drink (and we had 75 guests, so using the trolley cart wasn't really an option). It ended up costing a bit more, but was definitely worth it.
  2. Oh, and I have to eat gluten free and they made the buffet almost 100% gluten free (they said it was 100%, but a couple creamy sauces I decided to stay away from), and also made a a chocolate mousse for my dessert. Everything arranged by the wedding coordinator (romantic dinner after the wedding as part of our honeymoon) was specified to be gluten free, and the chef's were great if I approached them and asked about gluten/flour/wheat (the 3 spanish words I used the most this trip!)
  3. We used the hotel DJ for the ceremony only, and then used Doremixx for the reception and dinner. I didn't really notice how the hotel DJ was, he only played a few songs. But Doremixx was awesome and made the party part of our wedding amazing. We also got the buffet (350 pesos per person), and it was really good! They had chicken and other meats (I only had chicken, so I didn't really look at all of it to be honest), baked potatoes, salads, and I'm pretty sure everyone was satisfied AND we got variety this way. AND it was the cheapest way to do it!
  4. Hi ladies, I just got back from my wedding and honeymoon at the Sirenis yesterday!! It was amazing, and everything went as planned other than running about 25 minutes late, which delayed our dancing! I will do a full review at some point, but a couple comments: 1. We had gotten an email saying we would only get the presidential suite for our wedding night, and I refused this immediately. They came back and said we could have it for May 5-8, but I didn't get the email before we got down there. We fought HARD at check in time to get it for longer and for the ridiculousness of having to change rooms 3 times, but they didn't do anything for us other than make sure we were in ocean view suites. So that is definitely something you should try to get in writing ASAP, although they say they can't guarantee it until a couple weeks beforehand. 2. We paid extra to have a specific 14 person golf cart for our wedding ($1,000 pesos for 5 hours), and even with that we were delayed getting everyone to the ceremony (we had 74 guests), so make sure you give enough time for them all to get there. 3. We also paid for a hostess, which means they did the set up for free and although I brought my own ribbons for the chairs, they set up and supplied their own ribbons for the reception chairs for no extra cost. 4. If you don't use their photographer (Photo Aventuras or something), TELL THEM NOT TO COME AHEAD OF TIME! The lasy was dressed in jeans and got in the way of a lot of our photographers pictures. She looked extremely unprofessional and their pictures were terrible- we had a tough time picking 10 that looked good (and she only took 50). Let me know if you girls have any questions, and I will write a review soon! Although really, as long as you aren't a bridezilla about everything, it went so smoothly and I had no problems whatsoever! Marley
  5. I am getting mine done at Noir Lash based on a friend's recommendation- I have seen her lashes and they looked awesome
  6. Oh, and the price for the meal/bar also includes price for champagne toast/appetizers after the ceremony- I told them I didn't want this to save some money, and they told me it was included in that price- just an FYI!
  7. Hi all, I just got a ton of info from Maria (not sure if she took over for Yeniza, or is another coordinator?) with PDFs of included/extra flowers, cakes, extra costs, presidential package powerpoint- send me a private message with your email if you would like them! Also, I noticed some discrepancies from the original info (only 8 people transfer to the airport, whereas is was 10 when they gave me the info...I think), so I would compare whatever info they give you to the info you received. I also got a review from my travel agent from another bride who recently had her wedding there, so I can share that info too Marley
  8. sgreen, the pictures are SO beautiful! I am getting SO excited, we are getting married on May 6, 2013! Less than 3 months now! I can't wait to read your review and see how things went
  9. Hi NSinyerd, The only reason it would matter is if you want to do a legal ceremony, other than that I think it is totally up to you! I arrive May 3 and have our ceremony May 6, but ideally I wanted it May 8, so even later. But now that I read your comments, I think you're right, you don't want to stress the whole time. I think the one day would be enough time, but they may be recommending that because of another wedding/commitment they have to a bride during the same time, and may be concerned you won't get enough time to plan with them. Or in case something isn't as planned on the 21st, they have the 22nd to figure out how to resolve that. I think it's totally up to you, if you want if the 22nd then go for it!
  10. Hi Janette, Unfortunately it sounds like things have changed, here is my e-mail to Yeniza and her response If we pick the BBQ menu, is this like a buffet? Yes is a Buffet Would the chicken, steak, salmon and all the items listed be included for everyone to choose from? Yes should be for everyone If we do the Beach menu, can some people have steak and others have salmon and side dishes? For example, 50 people want steak and 24 people want salmon, 40 people want lobster cream soup and 34 want asparagus cream soup? No, It have to be the same menu for everyone, you choose one and is the same for all the party, unless you have a vegetarian or allergic, the chef do an exception. Maybe they would let you do separate plates if you were onsite and asked them before the wedding, but it doesn't sound like it from her response. That is good to know about the wind, I did see your pictures posted on here! Our centrepieces are going to be full of sand so it sounds like that will be helpful!
  11. Hi all, Just a quick update on my end- I have now been in contact with Yeniza, who seems to be helping Araceli out. She has answered my questions quickly, it's been great! Here's some stuff that she's told me that you guys might find helpful: -The palapa rental is included with the presidential package (I had that as an extra cost, so this was great news!) -At the palapa, menu options are buffet for 350 pesos, and then plated dinner for 500 pesos (per person) and that is steak, chicken, or salmon, and then 850 pesos (or 800?) for surf and turf (lobster and steak). She said that if you order the plated dinner, everyone has to order the SAME meal, soup, salad, etc. So we opted for the buffet. - The above price also includes open bar for everyone, I think for 4 or 5 hours. -I am celiac, and she let me know that a celiac-friendly meal can be accomodated, and she is looking into the cake as well -I want specific flowers (blue dendrobium orchids) and she is checking with their florist to see if this can be arranged and will get back with a price. It feels great to have some questions answered! I have all the menu information, so if anyone wants this please let me know and I can send it to you!
  12. For some reason they are moderating my post but I put all the wedding package information and pricing on this site, hopefully it pops up soon!
  13. Longpoint, I The only information that I have at this point is pricing for 2013 weddings, which should be helpful to you if you don't already have it. Something to keep in mind is that unlike a lot of the other hotels that I looked at, they will not substitute anything out for other things (for example, if you don't want the DJ, and hoped to swap it out for hair and makeup- they will not do this). This was disappointing for me because after seeing pictures on this site I want the presidential suite but I don't need or want all of the items in that package. Also, I have heard on this site that Mexicans seem to have a different selection of packages, not sure if it is just a different name or if it's a different package altogether. This is what she sent me knowing that I was from Canada. 14. I am doing my reception at the palapa as well- Claire I'm not sure about pricing out the beach reception but I do know that it's available and they will do it for a large group (I asked for 100 at first) as I initially wanted to do that as well. I saw MJKH's pictures of the palapa and loved it though! It has been frustrating as I haven't been able to price things out very well as we are so far away and not a priority at this point, but it would be nice to know! I'm also not happy that you can't swap things out of the packages, as there are certain things that I really don't want, but I saw the pictures of the presidential suite and really want that, so we are going with the presidential package. Is anyone closer to their wedding date and actually have more information about pricing? I also want specialty flowers (blue orchids) but now that you say that it is very overpriced, I'm thinking that will be too much to ask. They also seem to be rare down there, so they would most likely overcharge me a lot for that too.
  15. I am officially a Grand Sirenis bride- Our date is May 6, 2013! our deadline for guests to book with our group rate was last week and we have 69 guests!! We could not believe the turnout, it is SO exciting! Now that we are over 60 people, I think we have to do a buffet rather than a plated dinner, but I am waiting to hear back from Aracely about how to start pricing everything out. Just wanted to update the page and let you all know it's official!
  16. This is so helpful Prometida! I may have some questions for you about pricing, as we have a similar day (ceremony on the beach though) and a simialr # of guests that we're hoping to come. I'm unsure how the pricing works if you want to rent the palapa and if you have to do the plated dinner?
  17. Hi all, I heard back from Aracely today, in case anyone else needs this information, here are extra prices that she sent me: CEREMONY Mayan Ceremony $ 6,500 pesos Apostille $ 1,200 pesos Blood test for legal ceremonies $ 220 usd FLOWERS Hanging corsages $ 770 pesos c/u Centerpieces $ from 450 pesos Large Bouquet $ 800 pesos Bouttonier $ 200 pesos Bride’s maid bouquet $ 500 pesos Corsages $ 396 pesos Flower petals $ 200 pesos per bag Palms $ 250 pesos DECORATION Fabrics for gazebo different colors $ 600 pesos each one Ribbon for chairs different colors From $25 pesos each one Sand or red runner $ 325 pesos Yute runner different colors $ 500 pesos Rose petals runner $ 1,000 pesos Tiffany chair $ 40 pesos Acrilic table $ 800 pesos Lounge furniture $ 2,500 pesos for 10 people ( transportation is not included) Candle bags $ 10 pesos Tiki torches $ 20 pesos Table clothes Ask for prices RECEPTION DINNER Private wedding dinner in restaurant a la carte (4 hours) $ 11,050 pesos Extra guest ( 24 included) $ 221 pesos Palapa or Beach rental ( 4 hours) $ 11,050 pesos ( menu is not included) Groups less than 60 people 3 course menú ( Includes 4 hours national open bar) $ 500 pesos per person Hope someone can find this useful! I am hoping to have my date booked by the end of this week and get people to start putting deposits down, so exciting!
  18. Thanks for the info for the extra guests- I do that the weding packages, just not the extra "add-on" costs- extra hour for DJ, extra plated dinners per person, renting the palapa (which I saw on here was approx. 11,000 pesos)- I have emailed a couple times, I know they are busy but I really need to know in order to let people know if they can bring significant others or not based on how much extra per person it's going to cost. If anyone had even a 2011 or 2012 brochure for extra prices, please let me know! Also Jemma-Leigh- beautiful pictures!! And thanks for the recent review, that is helpful!!
  19. Hi ladies, I am in the process of booking my wedding at the Grand Sirenis in Riviera Maya. Just thought that I would drop a line and hopefully get this thread active again! Your suggestions for bridal shops are great, and I will be checking them out when the time comes for sure! Right now I am just trying to get quotes for guests from Vancouver, Ottawa, Kelowna, and Halifax from Westjet and hope that they are as cheap as the Calgary quotes they have provided us with!
  20. Hi ladies, I'm hoping to book the Grand Sirenis for May 2013, and am wondering if any of you have the pricing for add ons and how much it will cost for over 10 guests? I've contacted Aracely but have had no response, and we really need to get this information ASAP to let people know if they can bring +1 (we might consider having guests that have +1 that we don't know paying the fee for the extra guest- what do you think about that? Does it seem rude to ask?). My aunt stayed here in 2010 and said we will LOVE it, and we were able to get a great price for our guests out of Calgary, Canada, now just waiting on pricing for Vancouver, Ottawa, Kelowna, and Halifax for a few more of our guests. Hope to hear from someone soon about the extra prices!!
