JerseyGrl so sorry to hear about your planner troubles but glad everything turned out okay in the end. I had contacted Awesome events for a quote twice and never heard back. I was told she was the least expensive WC on the island and now I can see why. It's easy to be cheap when you just take someones money and don't do the work.

My mom and I have decided to go it alone(no planner) for now but will probably hire someone for the day of. I just recieved my confirmation back from the Bermuda Government that our venue, Ashwood Park, is booked. All I had to do for that was fill out a 2 page request to use the park and pay $25. Very easy, took two minutes and had the confirmation back in two weeks. Now I'm moving on to transportation and rental quotes.

Hi, I read your forum with great interest. We are in the beginning stages of planning my daughtes wedding which she also wants on the beach and reception on the beach.

Can you tell me how many people attended your wedding?

What was a total cost?

Where was your wedding held?

Who was your coordinator?

I am anxiously awaiting your reply....thank you so much in advance,

Nancy (mom)

I was married in Bermuda 8/2010. Our coordinator was Phyllis Soares with awesome events. We were having it at 9beaches which when we came down for a site visit was closed for renovations and might i add still is. Phyllis assured us not to worry. that was our 1st mistake.

Although very attentive and said all the right things the day of the wedding was a horror.

Everything from the cabana that was supposed to be set up for guests to the decor on the beach was a LIE! My guests were picking glass off the beach it was a mess. Phyllis did nothing.

DO NOT USE HER>>>>AWESOME EVENTS  is her company.

DO NOT USE PHYLLIS SOARES!!!  She is a lying cheating thief.  She has a criminal history dating back to 1977.  If you go to Bermudaâ€s local paper, The Royal Gazette online, search for Phyllis Soares (nee Burchall) and read the articles of her stealing huge sums of money and being sentenced to jail time on more than one occasion.

I was lucky enough to actually have had a beautiful wedding, thanks only to the staff at the resort I had booked.  Phyllis ruined everything her wicked hands touched.

At the end of it all Phyllis had STOLEN ALL OF THE MONEY that was to be paid to the resort.  I had to sue her, and obviously won, but it took almost an entire year to do so.  I have yet to have a honeymoon thanks to her.

I strongly encourage anyone who was ripped off by this woman to contact the Fraud Dept of the Bermuda Police Dept.

Her company is now defunct, but Iâ€m quite sure that sheâ€ll be back to her thieving ways very soon, as she always does.  Her husband has just recently divorced her so she may go back to her maiden name of Burchall.  Watch out for Phyllis Soares or Phyllis Burchall.  Better yet, go to the Royal Gazette article and take a good long look at the photo of her in handcuffs.  Remember the face because I wouldnâ€t put it past her that sheâ€ll change her name.

I have heard from a few brides that Wendy at Southampton Princess is fantastic.  The South P is beautiful too with lots of places on the property to have the wedding.  The only downside is that they are pricy compared to other venues.

I am getting married July 2012 and I am using Ginny from Weddings with Panache at Elbow Beach. She is amazing and very reasonable. She responds within minutes to my many emails :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
