We are planning our 2 year anniversary trip to Oahu next June. We are staying in condos on the North Shore. Mike has family there & some of our familiy members are making the trip too. The plan is to go around the same time, but do our own thing most days.

I'm starting to explore the Oahu threads to see what all we can do. I bought a book on hikes in Oahu. We plan on snorkeling at shark's cove and hiking a volcano.

We are going to rent a car so we can explore.

is there a compiled list of Oahu photographers? I'd love to take some romantic pictures with mike while we are there (if I can talk him into it).

How long are you going for Morgan? I would highly suggest going to another island if you have the time. :)

When my friends were in Honolulu I know they went to the pineapple plantation and saw a luau etc.. the usual touristy things.

we are staying at the condos where his aunt & uncle live. we have to rent them for 7 nights atleast. so if we went to another island, we'd be paying for a nights stay in two places. where we are staying is not crowded like honolulu. often you'll have the beach to yourself.

I've gotten the advice from several people to leave oahu, but i'm hoping that the part of oahu we are staying has enough amazing things to offer. with the way this family trip is planned, leaving wouldn't be easy. atleast not for more than a day.

Hi Morgan. Let me know if you need any ideas for things to do. My parents live on the island and I frequent it quiet often. It's actually where my fiance and I met :)
I can't recommend a photog...but I know a great videographer if you have any interest in that.
I too would recommend getting to another island...Oahu has ferries now and you could turn it into a day or overnight trip. They are pretty reasonably priced.
                Enjoy planning your trip!

where do the ferries leave from? roughly, what do they cost?

my coworker told me to go to the big island

what makes the other islands better? less people? more to see? more beautiful?

The Big Island is where the active volcano is.. if you are wanting some fabulous shots you could totally do a day trip there I think. Not sure how much ferries are though. I believe you can get inter-island flights with Hawaiian airlines for about 50 bucks or so.

Oahu is the busiest and most touristy of the islands. In fact, alot of people have said Maui is getting to be this way too but I found Maui alot more enjoyable than Oahu. The north shore was definitely more of a hawaiian feel on Oahu so I'm glad you are staying over there.

I've heard people rave about Kauai and Big Island (we didn't make it to either but will next time for sure). Not as busy.. more of a tropical feel I guess?

ok i thought it was the crowds that made oahu less enjoyable. where we are staying is not crowded & touristy. Mike's parents have told us it will be a very hawaiian experience. While i was home last month, I went through her scrap books from their last 2 trips there & it looked great.

As I start to plan out our excursions, i will definitly look in to taking a ferry or flight to another island. Kauai looks like it would likely be my favorite. I'd just hate to waste a lot of time traveling since we are not changing locations for a night.
