Our love story

HOW WE MET:

I met my fiance Tony when we were about 13 years old when we went on a 'blind date' (if you could call it that)... basically back then almost every Friday and Saturday night I went with a bunch of my friends to the movies, mall, etc. Well one of my friends said I had to meet this guy because we would get along great... well that guy was Tony. That night we all saw "My Favorite Martian" LOL

Well we were friends for a couple of years and then started dating when I was 14 (he was 15) during the summer going into our sophomore year. We dated all through high school and through college with a couple of break ups... longest one being for only 3 months. Although we had our ups and downs- I really dont think we would be as strong as we are now without those hard times... ANYWAYS BACK TO THE STORY...

We talked about marriage for a while but I was in college and wanted to get my Master's so we thought it was best to wait til I was at least half way done... However I wasn't expecting a proposal and didn't think it would happen til after I got my Masters but boy was I wrong :)

THE PROPOSAL:

I am a dancer and have danced at Marisela's Dance Studio in Tampa,FL since I was 4 years old. I also taught at the Dance Studio throughout my senior year of high school and my four years of undergrad. Basically I consider my dance studio my second home and consider Marisela and her family as my own family. When I started grad school I decided that I had to quit dance because it was just not possible to work full time, go to school full time and participate in dance... THIS KILLED ME...

This past June- 2008, there was a dance recital and I decided that I was going to return to dance- at least for the recital for one last 'GOODBYE'. I struggled for months trying to balance everything that I had on my plate and when the tickets went on sale I asked Tony to go in my place because I had class and that is when he put his plan into action...

*Fastforward*

It is the day of the recital and Marisela (the owner) approached me and asked if I would help her present the awards on stage during the recital to those students who are being recognized for their time at the studio. Of course- I agreed. After all of the awards were passed out Marisela said that she wanted to embarass me a while and ask me some questions, which didnt surprise me because this is something she does often :) She started asking me questions about my favorite dance, etc. and then asked if I recognized this song... when the song started to play I realized it was me and Tony's song... "I knew I loved you" by Savage Garden.

When she turned me around Tony was on stage in a suit with roses. He took the microphone and told the audience that he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me... just then- he got down on his knee and proposed. Of course I said yes and we danced to the rest of our song... *we got a standing ovation*

Background info:

After Marisela explained that Tony brought this up to her at the ticket sale and they have been having secret meetings ever since. She explained that Tony told her that he knew dance and the studio were a big part of my life and that he wanted to propose this way so that the studio would always be a part of my life

I couldn't have asked for a better fiance or for a better proposal!!!!

We are getting married June 19, 2009 in the Domincan Republic.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
