How to Show My Best Self in a Resume

Hello Ladies:

I was browsing through the Chit Chat corner and saw all types of threads on here. Hopefully you all can help me out a little bit here. I think that the layout of my resume is pretty good (or so I've told by different HR managers) but I need to do something and do it quickly to get a new job.

Here is my background in a nutshell: 4 year BS degree from Iowa State University in Exercise Science

study abroad programs in South Korea and Tasmania, AU

Fitness Internship

Personal Trainer for the last almost 3.5 years

at home business sales and marketing experience

real estate hostess (6 years ago), basically an admin asst/leasing asst. type position but only for 3 months during college

So i am looking for almost anything. I just want to get my foot in the door for future advancement opportunities. I would like to start either as an admin asst. or HR asst. Ultimately i think it would be amazing if i could end up with an international company and be able to travel internationally (i prefer some countries over others but that's the beside the point right now).

I check careerbuilder and monster everyday, i have 4 temp agencies working for me right now (all active, the others are a bunch of duds), and i talk to friends to see if they know of any open positions. I know the job market isn't exactly booming right now but I NEED to find something. Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can/should be doing to look for a job? Personality wise I am very marketable because I'm professional, intelligent, hard working, motivated, and willing to start at the bottom. I don't even know what kinds of positions are out there that maybe i'd love doing. Maybe a pricing analyst? who knows, but i'm open to all suggestions!

Thanks girls (and guys)!

Have you thought about a career agency or a headhunter? Sometimes they can be great for leads (provided you don't have to pay them a percentage) and can set you up for interviews with jobs that fit your profile.

I think you are doing the right things. Have you tried posting your resume on sites like Monster and other career sites that allow you to post? FI did this last year and it really worked - he had companies calling him which was nice..

Good Luck! You have great qualifications so you will find something quickly!

I would recommend networking. Get out and meet people face to face. Lunches, coffees, informational interviews, informal meetings, happy hours, seminars, etc. Meet people, tell them you're looking, ask for advice, etc. It's so much better than doing it behind an internet screen! Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice ladies. I'll have to get more creative I guess! I currently have about four temp agencies that are actively looking for me and the others that I contacted have done nothing so far. I like going through a temp agency because of the feedback that I get post interview. There is a huge job fair that is coming up in my area November 11th for all industries, any company, etc but I really need to find something way before then.

Hello Everyone, my account agent at one of the temp agencies I am using found me a job with the most amazing company ever! I'm so grateful even though the early morning wake-ups are KILLING me. Thanks for your advice!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
