I had a question for you regarding the DJ App. I too, am not using an actual DJ, but bringing my iPod and iPhone for music for the reception. (We have the Spanish Trio playing for the ceremony, so we are all set with that part) But did you use the iPod or the iPhone? I have both, and am wondering what is easier to use. I am guessing the Wedding DJ App can only be used for the iPhone, and you said it fades in and out to sound more professional. I like that! Is it just a regular app you can download?

Thanks!

Hi Chrestena,

I had the app on both my iphone and my Itouch - they are synced so I had the app on both but I had to set it up separately on both devices.  I wanted a back up just in case.  If you make playlists on Itunes then it is easy to set up.  I loved it and worth checking out. It was free when I downloaded but honestly I would have paid for it too.

I forgot to make a playlist for while we were having dinner..  duh!!!!!  couldnt' believe it so we just picked a random playlist I had on my phone for dinner music..  I laughed at that mistake too.

I asked one of my younger guests to be in charge of the music, just showed him how it worked and he did a great job.  It is that easy to use once you have it set up.

Hope this helps.

Karen

Thanks too for all of your little tips and tricks.  I was definitely going to put the tips into envelopes for everyone with names (yep, saw a cute idea and way to do that on Pinterest, haha!) but can I ask how you distributed these tips?  For Vanessa I was wondering if I should tip her at our meeting before hand just in case I don't see her on our wedding night?  I have also heard that the planners are not always there.  I think it's so amazing that she was there with you the whole time - even through the party crasher fiasco, haha!  I am not sure how to handle the tips for the waiters, etc.  Did you put someone in charge of handing out the money so that you would not have to be bothered while you were celebrating, or did you want to hand it to them directly to say thanks?  I'm not sure what would be best.

Hello Bre,

I am going to have a party after dinner at Las Rocas Bar. I previously had booked La Laguna from 7 to 11pm as you. As it also sounds ridiculous to be one hour (or less) for me too, I asked Vanessa to be less time at La Laguna. So we are going to be from 7.00 to 9.30. Then we will go with the carts to Las Rocas arriving there at 9.45pm and enjoying there until midnight. Ask Vanessa for this option.

Lauren, last Saturday I bought the envelops with thank sheets of paper for the tips taking as you and idea from Pinterest.

What I am going to do at the end with the tips is giving Vanessa the tip to the next day. I will reach her the next morning at the wedding office.

The day of the wedding I will charge my dad to give the tips and money for the cameraman and photographer. And to the made of honour the envelopes with the tips for all the waiters (7 in total for the 3 locations) and the guys driving the carts.

Ya Carlotta I had asked to do that.. So our plan is 7-9:40 ish at La laguna and then we have the full 2 hours for the beach bash! It should work out better that way

Hi Lauren, Vanessa told me there are 3 options: chocolate, vainilla and mexican. The mexican is the one with 3 milks... I think all are too flavoured for eating them in August with that high temperatures... i want to ask her about the possibility to go for another flavour...

Hey all, I have just spent ages catching up on all the posts! I love my wee fix of DW!

Karenk – glad to hear the DJ app worked well, Iâ€m planning on using it too but havenâ€t actually got round to downloading it yet. Must do that tonight!  Thanks also for the info about the wine – we shall just need to stick to tequila J Thanks also for mentioning you forgot about a dinner playlist – I would totally have overlooked that part of the night!

Mikeycelle –wow wow wow! You looked absolutely beautiful and a huge congratulations! Thanks for your amazing review, itâ€s the perk of my day to read about the GP, especially when it was so wonderful for you.  Itâ€s great to hear Vanessa and the team were so accommodating for you and that all your guests had a great time.  We will definitely take note of the Adult Pool and Sunset Disco for our evenings!

Your story about your dress made me laugh, Iâ€m glad it all worked out in the end and is certainly a story to tell the kids when they come along!

We are also having cocktail hour at Las Rocas, although weâ€re having it after our meal so we can have dancing etc then, and hopefully it will be a little cooler as well.

Your first dance sounds so dreamy with the cold fireworks and sparklers, definitely a memory to cherish.  We had decided not to go for the mariachi band but looking at your photos, I think weâ€ll need to reconsider!

Thanks for the advice about having everything ready for each vendor in a named envelope – the will help for sure on the day.  I totally teared up reading your words of advice, it was lovely and great advice.  I am so looking forward to our wedding now!

Carlota – I am a fellow Pintrest addict – my wedding board just gets bigger and bigger by the day!  Your choice of flowers are also beautiful and itâ€s great to hear you found a vendor with prices you liked!

Bre and Casey – I think with the package changes our options are slightly different so not sure if I can offer any advice on the timeline side of things. I think very similar to Carlota, we are having ceremony 4-5, drinks/photos 5-6.30, dinner 6.30-8.30 and then cocktail hour at Las Rocas 9-11  In the UK it is traditional to have the first dance after the meal so this will be at Las Rocas for us, followed by dancing and drinking!  I am going to ask Vanessa if we can pay a little extra and stay till 12 though as I notice Carlota is able to stay till midnight.  This is the great thing about these forums, you get ideas and information you would never think to ask for.

Lauren – great question as to when and how to give payment/tips … Iâ€d be interested in everyoneâ€s opinions here too.  I guess it would usually be the best manâ€s job to take care of all the money but it might be nice to deal with it all beforehand if possible.

Chreetena – Oh my goodness, it will be you so soon.  I hope you are all organised and relaxing now and really just looking forward to a wonderful wedding and holiday into the bargain!  I canâ€t wait to hear all about it – hopefully it will be the wedding of your dreams.  Good Luck!

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all of your fabulous advice! My fiance and I just reserved our date for April 2, 2014 and have begun the process of planning the reception with Vanessa. We're expecting around 40 guests, and from what I understand, we have to have a private party to serve that number.

Do any of you know where these private parties are held? Is it the same restaurants as the reserved seating dinners but with a steeper price?

Does it seem like most people plan a cocktail hour after the ceremony while photos are being taken, or do you think there are reasonably enough bars at the resort that the guests can occupy themselves for an hour or so?

Thank you so much!

Alexandra

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
