We went to Cabo for our first site visit last fall from Sept 15-22nd. We arrived as hurricane John was nearing Mexico. The hotels were boarded up and flights were being cancelled. After being there during a hurricane threat I can't imagine planning my wedding during that time. There is so much stress involved in planning a wedding, to add the chance of really bad weather just seems like you're asking for trouble. Would something bad happen? Chances are probably not too bad- but who knows? Can you imagine bringing your guests down to Cabo for a hurricane? We were pretty scared and nothing even happened- it just looked scary because of the dark sky, the HUGE waves, the way the hotels and everyone was bracing for the hurricane. You can do whatever you want- it's your wedding, but in my opinion I would totally go for an earlier or later date. If your family doesn't like the heat, maybe Cabo isn't the place to go- it's always hot! Except when we were just down there in Feb- it was 70's and breezy, very nice!

I hope I didn't upset you, I'm just being honest and sharing my opinion.

You have no idea how much I'd love to move it up to this November!!! The only thing is that we're waiting for Aaron to finish school, which is April '08. We're now considering May.

You didn't upset me... I'm thankful for your opinion! Ya, I just don't want to go to Cabo when its at it hottest and the days are at their longest! I actually didn't realize hurricanes impacted that side of Mexico so much, I thought they were pretty much in the clear (with the occasional windy and really rainy days). Poor, naive Courtney!! It also never occurred to me that Florida (which is where we're honeymooning) is probably not the best place during hurricane season!! September is now out of the question!

My friend Monica is planning her wedding for September as well. I've been pretty concerned about it and have been reseaching weather like crazy. She's getting married in Puerto Vallarta so far from Cabo but at least on the same side of the country! Anyway. . .You're right in observing that there are generally more hurricanes on the Atlantic/Carribean side, but of course there is still the chance for them on the Pacific side as well. I've heard than typically when it does rain there, it's not for very long at a time. Also, this report came out on MSNBC this week about the La Nina weather pattern this year. . .here's the bit I sent to my friend...I'll go back and see if I can find the entire article for you to read. I thought this info was kind of helpful.. .

 

 

 

 

"Forecasters don't know how strong this La Nina will be. However, it typically means:

More hurricanes in the Atlantic, fewer in the Pacific;

Less rain and more heat for the already drought-stricken South;

A milder spring and summer in the north;

A drier fall in the central plains;

A wetter late fall and early winter in the Pacific Northwest."

 

 

Now, all that being said - weather is always unpredictable. And even with all the research I've done the info is sometimes conflicting (exe: according to numerous articles and reports I've read, supposedly the peak of the hurricane season is actually in both June and Nov there...but then the guy/photographer who actually lives there says it's usually Aug-Oct...so it's hard to know what to think. Maybe it varies a bit depending on the weather patterns that year??) Technically hurricane season is from June-November so I suppose it's a risk during any of those months. You may just want to make sure to purchase the travel insurance and encourage your guests to do the same...no matter when you decide to book it?

 

I'm sorry this is such a big ordeal!

 

Once you do decide on the date that's best for you, I'm sure you'll have a great time and it will all be gorgeous and fun!

what a great way to celebrate him finishing school and your new lives together than to get married. May it is...hey at least you are moving it up 6 months. Now you're only 14 months away.

Oooh, I know... my wedding just got 6 months closer in 24 hours time! Who can complain about that?!

 

Ya, we thought if Aaron tried to get a job and then took three weeks off for our wedding his new boss might not be impressed, so we wanted it to be as close to his grad as possible.
