Very small intimate weddings?

Recommended Posts

ha ha Jill I'm 3 months out until our wedding, and only 2 of my guests have actually booked so far.. Everyone else said their going (well out of the 10 that's left to book) but I think only 3 are questionable.. So if your guests are already booking, your further ahead them we are..

Tammy, I would be bald if I were that close and people still hadn't booked. I never wait that last minute to book a trip out of the country! Thats insane!

Not to mention because I'm so unsure of numbers I feel like I can't plan anything, its already making me crazy!

As of right now, I know 4 people coming. Where you ask? I still do not know. SO far, I am interested in: JW Marriot, Excellence, Aventura Spa and maybe el dorado. I really want an intimate beach wedding at a hotel that has a great swimable beach and great food. I like the packages that the hotels are offering and they seem especially appealing in the $ dept if we only have 10 people.

But here is my wedding drama:

My In Laws want FI and I to KNOW not many people will come to Mexico and they think it is RUDE for us to have a destination wedding when we have so many friends and fam in Boston that would love to see us married. They have tried to get us to look into Bermuda which is not our style. Did you girls have the same crazy drama?

This is everyone's life story. No one's family is ever happy with the thought of a DW until after the fact. Don't stress about this you will never please everybody. You have to have the wedding that you and your FI want at the location you guys like. It would be great if everyone went but at the same time if they can't go, they can't go. The wedding must go on with or without them!

Thanks Glenda and Jilly! The inlaws think we should attach a letter with the invites telling the guests we do not expect them to go out of their way etc...ugh. The thing is we comprised cause we are having a DW and reception in Boston so I do not know what the grumbling is about.

You both are having your weddings at the Dreams but in different places...I am actually interested in the Dreams Cancun.

Jilly, are you having your wedding the Gazebo or beach? I too will probaly end having a dinner not reception. How does that work? Can you be seated in a private area of the restaurant? How is the food? Is the beach nice? I have looked at so many hotels that I do not remember what has what.:)

I sent a letter as my STD, and mentioned that we really hoped everyone would be able to join us, but I think most people know without you telling them that they don't have to go, most of our friends love the idea, its mostly the extended family and some of the close family that don't. We're paying for everything ourselves and we couldn't see ourselves spending $25,000 on a wedding that was going to last for 5 hours. So instead we'll spend about half that and have an 11 day vacation & our wedding as well.

I am having my wedding at the gazebo, the gazebo is what made me fall in love with dreams cancun, I loved it!

You can only do reservations in one of the restaurants if you have 20 guests or less(as far as I know). They said you have to choose the menu before hand and additional charges could apply (not sure what that means, maybe just depends what kind of menu you choose) and they said they could accomodate us at world cafe or oceana. I don't know if its a private area but at least you'll all be together.

Depending on what you're looking to spend, if you want it to be more private you could do one of the packages, they include cocktail hour & reception(which you could make just dinner, not the other stuff) and it includes some other things you many want like a bouquet, hair & makeup, etc. there are different packages that include different things.

let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks so much for the awesome details, Jill! Did you do a scouting trip at the hotel? Yeah, we are paying for the wedding ourselves too but inlaws will help with reception. Funny...I have no idea where I will have the wedding in Febb 2008 but my wedding dress arrived in the mail today. I got a fab dress from jcrew that was on sale:0smile159.gif

BTW...What part of Ma are you from? I am orginally from waltham but now live in town (boston).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
