Reception

We got a group rate (which is about $90 plus tax). We figured rather than the site fee, the entertainment, food & alcohol it'd probably come to about that per person anyway, so why not just do the luau. cheesy.gif Plus, everyone goes to a luau when they are in Maui. The guests also get a flower lei when entering. It makes sense for us. We're bringing our photographer back to shoot a couple of hours at the reception (we're getting married in the am), so we have to pay for their entrance, too, but they get a local discount. I can get you my contact's name if you're interested.

But to answer your question....yes, we're paying.

Oh Ok..thanks! I talked it over with my WC and since our wedding starts at 4:30 and the luau begins at 5:30 we would be cutting it close so we decided to keep our reservation for the Pineapple Grill and the invite our guests to join us the next day at the Luau.

Pineapple Grill sounds interesting.. we will have to check it out!

We are having our reception at the Seawatch, and hosting a luau for our guests the next evening at the Old Lahaina Luau.. we wanted to do both for our guests but hopefully our numbers don't start to skyrocket otherwise it will be tres moolah!

Hi! We are planning on going with Mulligan's on the Blue which is real close to Seawatch. Our coordinator said you can actually see them from one another and Mulligan's also has a great view. Our current plans are to have the ceremony at Seawatch and then go over to Mulligan's. At Mulligan's you can go much later than the typical 10 pm. Only catch is that those under 21 must still vacate the property at 10 pm so I'm thinking of finding a nanny or sitter service for any children if us or our parents are staying at a condo (I have a bachelor's in child development and so my mind immediately went to how we need to provide something for the parents who want to stay later but brought their young kids!). I have the Maui Revealed book and Mulligan's received an Ono (or Recommended) stamp through them. The prices also look more affordable than Seawatch without sacrificing quality.

Ok Ladies I need your help... msncry.gif

Originally we were to have our reception the Pineapple Grill but we can't afford to pay for everyone (25 guests) so we decided to have it at the Old Lahaina Lu`au. Our WC was able to move the time of our wedding up 30 minutes early that we can all make it to the luau by 5:30. How do I tell my guests that they have to pay? shameonyou.gif

That's a tough one! If you are close with your guests I am sure they wouldn't mind. I'm gathering you should include this in the wedding info- invitation insert or wedding webpage. I would word it "if you would like to join us for our dinner reception...".

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
