My mom is terrified, too, but not because of crime. (Thank god she hasn't read these articles.) But she's scared because my parents drove across the border in the 1970s and my mom got so sick with Montezuma's Revenge she vowed never to go back. You have no idea how many conversations I've had trying to convince her that driving into rural Mexico is nowhere near the same thing as going to a tourist town. AND - that was 30 years ago!! doh.gif Anyway - she's been really cute about it. I know she's scared to death, but every time I talk to her she just says "honey, whatever you want to do, we'll be there!" - but I can hear the quiver in her voice. sad.gif

SO...we're taking both of our parents down there in June. That way my mom can see the place and feel more comfortable when we go down there for the big event. She was in a really bad car accident a few years ago and has some anxiety issues, so I just want to get her down there early so she'll feel more comfortable. It takes her awhile to adjust sometimes, and if she arrived the day before the wedding, I think I'd be so worried about her that I wouldn't be able to focus.

AND I'm going to stock her room with bottled water from Costco. wink.gif Otherwise, I think she'd pass out from dehydration. No matter how much I tell her that the water is purified! I really do love her to death though...she really is cute about it...

We've been to Mexico four times so far and everytime we go we bring Cipro with us. Its an antibiotic (I think) they use to treat anthrax, it will kill anything in your stomach. My doctor who goes to Mexico to dive suggested it and we never had a single stomach problem down there, even on tours to the small towns. We take half a pill every time we feel anything wrong and it works like magic. Maybe you should talk to your doctor and see if you can bring something similar just in case.

Oh - thank you so much for mentioning this!!! Someone told me about something called Align a long time ago and I completely forgot about it until now. I think Align is OTC and probably not nearly as strong as Cipro. I'll have Mom talk to her doc before we go. Thank you!

I photographed a wedding in Mexico (about 2 hours south of Puerto Vallarta) last year, and I never worried about my safety while there.

It sounds like the hotel is really increasing their security, and it's good that they're letting you know that so you won't worry. Glad to hear that your FI had a talk with his mom.

Happy planning, and have a great wedding!

Tod

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
