Newbie! Any scoop on RIU Ocho Rios??

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am getting married at the RIU in Ocho Rios in Jan. If anyone has anything to share, let me know! I am just getting started! Any suggestions on nights of the week to get married?? I have heard it's fun to do it on the night oif the beach party?? Only 12 of us will be there, fun group looking for music and cocktails after QUICK ceremony! Does anyone know if you have to be there 48 hours before you get married, or just 2 calender days?? If we wanted to marry on Friday, do we need to be there Tues..or Wed?? I would apprec. any input you all have on anything a bride needs to know! Back to work! Thanks! J

HI Welcome and Congrats!

The beach party switch friday to saturday.

After the wedding you can have a semi private dinner at the Mammee Bay at no extra cost. The food is very good. If you want something more private you can pay for the plantation. For smaller groupe you might be able to make reservation to Sir John or Sir Richard.

The reception: You can reserve the plantation for your group for 10$ per person for open bar (you have to pay cause is usualy close that time of the day). You can also have the disco 9h-11h for 250$ I think.

The best is probably arriving on tuesday but if you tell Chandlyn you will be there only on wednesday there should not be any problem. I got there late saturday and got married tuesday

Welcome and Happy Planning?

When is your wedding day? We will be getting married at ROR January 5th!

Take a look through the Jamaica threads. There are tons of great ROR info to get you started! Also, if you look through the wedding reviews some current ROR just got back and have posted wonderful reviews.

There has also been current discussion about hte 2 day rule. According to the Riu webpage it is 2 full business days (not counting arrival day I think or Sundays). However, lots of brides say that Chandlyn is flexible and was okay with just 2 regular days if asked ahead of time.

Here are some of my favorite ROR threads to get you started:

Welcome!! There is lots of us ROR brides here. I am sure you will find everything you need. These girls are pretty informative :)
When in Jan are you getting married? I'm Jan 22/09.
If you haven't requested your time, I would suggest you do it soon as it fills up pretty fast.
If there is anything I can answer for you, please let me know.
You need to be there 2 full business days before but they do make exception if you talk to the wedding co-ordinator.
Cheers and happy planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
