we were going to do sit down, but our caterer told us that we would have to do so much more in rentals and it seems really silly to do that.
So buffet it is!!!

So you mean like you had servers plating the food while you the made the choices and then they escorting you back to the table?
Yes, although the people serving were a different group that the people escorting. But all restaurant employees. It was really classy, actually.

We had a plated dinner for our wedding, and we really liked it. We had 3 choices for entrees: salmon, prime rib, or chicken. Almost all weddings I had been to had been buffet, and we wanted something different. I think both are nice, but I also think that it can take way too long for a buffet if you have too many guests. I went to a wedding last year with 250 guests, and they only had ONE line for the buffet, so it literally took 2 1/2 hours for everyone to get dinner. It was ridiculous, and those of us in the far tables were starving by the time we finally got food. So, if you are having a big wedding, be careful with how they set up the buffet.

As far as if it looks elegant, yes, I think a buffet can look elegant. I agree with Janet about the white linens - if they set it up that way, with different levels, and votive candles and rose petals, it can look quite classy. Also, some places have really nice chafing dishes - the polished silver kind look more elegant than the stainless steel. Just ask your caterer for pics of what they use.

I too have gone back and forth about this. Steve does not like buffets, but I think in saying this he is referring to restaurant buffets, he thinks they're dirty. So a wedding buffet would be different because it would be only our guests.

Does anyone know how much rebecca paid for her buffet, was it lobster & filet? I can't quite remember.

I guess in the end it will depend how many guests we have.

I'm late on this but my opinion would be buffet. Only because out of the many weddings we have attended we really prefer stations over anything else. I like the thought of my guests being able to eat whenever they wanted (in a certain time frame of course) or being able to pick out what they wanted etc. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for all your opinions girls!! We most likely going with the buffet! But gesh my mind changes every minute!!

We are looking at about 30-40 guests so a buffet makes sense. And people do like choices!

we're doing sit down.. I having a feeling that my guests will be sick of a buffet from staying at an AI all week... hehehe

No really, I still want something formal and the prices the WC gave me were for a sit down so I thought "Why Not?"

See that's why I said I keep changing my mind. I thought the same abut having buffets all week. But we've actually started asking our friends for their inputs and they say buffet. I hear their food is really good so I think either way they should be satisfied.

Brenda, I was being sarcastic. Dreams actually has a la cart options, so I doubt that we'll be eating buffets all week.

you should go with the buffet especially if your group has different taste in food.

We're expecting about 150 guests so I don't think the buffet will work (I can imagine the line)

I am also planning to do a sit-down. I agree with what Amy said, I still want something somewhat formal and I think guests will be sick of the buffets from the AI. But I do think that buffets can look classy if done properly. I think the white linen is a great idea.
