OMG! Charges and other issues.

I was looking at the HILton menu again, and notices 10% tax AND 15% service charge. Tax is high, but what is the service charge. Is this supposed to be gratuity? IT'S A 25% HIKE!

OK, so Gavin was unemployed until recently for 5 months. In October I asked Emeline about 2 complimentary nights in APril for tasting. This was after the agreement was signed and sent back, which stated nothing about a room block. We had already gone back and forth about this and it was decided that I would not be blocking rooms. So, anyway she said that I could have the 2 nights in April and she told me what date was good.

We did not book the flight right away b/c of the financial situation. Well, he is working now and we were going to book the flight. I sent an e-mail to double-check the chef was still available and now it seems I can't have the 2 nights b/c I didn't block the rooms. HELLO!

I sent her the e-mail she originally offered it in from October. She came back and still said I can't have them. I'm so confused.

I realize that I am not the only wedding that vendors are dealing with, but this is the 3rd person that has completely forgot, and did not bother to note the details that were already agreed on.

Has anyone else found themselves talking to people that are not fully paying attention?

Sorry, just pissed off a bit.

Jen,

Not that this will make you feel any better, but everything I have gotten quoted on has included the 10% tax & 15% service charge - I don't think that is unusual.

Also, yes, talking to people about something & then having them not remember happens to most of us. That's why we should save all of our communications. I think you should push the issue with Emeline regarding your 2 nights - you have her promise in writing, she needs to honor it.

I agree. I should. I'm not the best with that kind of stuff. Gavin is really good, but unfortunately he has done no planning at all.

I know, it's against our female nature to be aggressive/pushy. You've got to do it though! She at least owes you an explanation for why she promised you something that she is reneging on. Perhaps if you approach it from this stand point: "Emeline, I am confused. My understanding is that back in October, you promised us 2 nights of complimentary lodging so we could come and do a menu tasting. Here is the email you sent me indicating the best time for us to use our free nights. Can you please clarify this situation for me? "

I'm sorry that this is happening to you, as for the tax and gratuity I guess there is no way around it but as for them offering those 2 nights and now saying u can't have them that is just wrong...I agree with Christa's post you gotta be aggressive if that doesn't do anything I would write a letter to the manager or GM...hope it works out for u

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
