Just Decided on a DW....but that's about it!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the support!

To answer a few questions and give you guys a better idea of where I'm at in all of this: Our main concerns in choosing a destination are 1) Cost and 2) Distance. We would like to do an AI, mainly so guests don't have to worry about budgeting for all the food, drinks, etc...it will all be covered when they get there....and we don't want people on a plane all day or making multiple flight changes. That brings us to looking mainly in the Dominican Republic or Mexico. I have been looking at websites and we had considered a resort wedding but I keep hearing that it seems like a "conveyor belt" wedding..... I don't know....I like the idea having the wedding and reception off the resort but don't want it to be astronomically expensive.....I don't even know a ballpark range of how much this all costs! I am feeling totally overwhelmed! Plus, we haven't told our families it is DEFINITELY a DW, we've been throwing the idea out there for the past couple months and have gotten mixed reviews....I'm pretty nervous about the reaction I will get!

Most of the resorts only have a certain number of weddings per day, most only one or two. I haven't heard anyone phrase it as a "conveyor belt wedding".

As far as people's reactions to your DW, yes you will get mixed reviews but remember it is about you and your FI and what you want, if they can make it they will.

don't worry about reactions, you'll have all kinds.. good and bad, but at the end, only those who REALLY want to be in your wedding are going to be..

good luck, and tell us what location you decide.. I'm getting married in Cancun and I am from Mexico, tell me if I can help you

I know how you feel though, I kept telling my FI that I wanted something "different" - he's like, we're getting married in Mexico, isn't that different enough?!

Anyway, we're getting married in a private beach, cove area called Las Caletas - it's a 45 min. boat ride (only accessible by boat) from Puerto Vallarta. Your wedding and reception will be totally private - no beach-goers walking by! The WC has been great to work with so far ... lucky me! Here's the website - if you're interested in hearing more, let me know ... Puerto Vallarta Wedding Planner for Mexico Destination Weddings

Hi Jen and welcome to the forum!

Dont feel to overwhelmed, as soon as you get the destination and the resort chosen you are half way there!

Good luck and let us know if you need any opinions on resorts. There is almost always someone around here that has been there or has heard good things bad things etc....

Because I am supposed to be working (shhhhhh...) I will just point you in this direction for now ... here are a couple threads about Las Caletas. If you really want to know more, I'd be happy to help! Just let me know, and I can send you everything I have, or we can just chat away! It's hard to pick a place like this blind, since it's so out of the norm - that is the one thing I was nervous about! But after tracking down 2 couples that were married there (some say stalking!), I felt comfortable - they couldn't say enough positive about their experience!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
