Thank you! I dont mind your plug at all I love to know photographers personal experiences with the hotel as obviously I dont want to run into any problems! I have added you to my research list :) My sister in law is a wedding photographer here so she is going to be my "artistic eyes" as Im kind of clueless! I appreciate your input!

@@Sweetness14 Thank you! Yes we will have some kids. I have heard about the beach but sadly my options were quite limited. I have celiac disease as does about half my family among other allergies to we very much wanted to pick a resort that would be safe for us to eat at, which is quite the challenge! Do you mind if I ask how long you have been planning? We just landed on may 2017 this week as the fiances dads health isnt great and we did not want to risk waiting till 2018. Hoping I can pull it all together in 7 months!

Glad to hear it!! We're happy to help in any way we can. Feel free to email us any questions you have as well <3

  2. @@kat5849 we might as well plug ourselves. check out our website at http://www.jasminandmatt.com

OH and just to clarify, the resort doesn't waive the outside vendor fee if your photographer is a guest. They AREN'T allowed to charge it. We've stayed at resorts for the minimum 2 night stay because it ended up being cheaper than the outside vendor fee. This was at Barcelo though and not Azul.

*edit* the reason we wanted to clarify this ^^^ is because we truly feel that a lot of the times certain resorts take advantage of their clients, whether it be brides or just standard guests. We've NEVER had a bad experience at any of the Azul resorts. They are beautiful hotels and the staff are incredible but some of their policies are "unfavorable" in our opinion.

  3. Just some updated information for all the brides out there. We've been in discussion with the wedding department at Azul Fives (not Azul Sensatori but still another Azul & Karisma hotel) and apparently the owners of the hotels are also the owners of the photog company they have on the premises. This monopoly is why they seem to never budge on the outside vendor fee. My contact also informed me that there are no longer "approved vendors". Some companies may be grandfathered in, but still be careful of what people claim to be.

Do your research and choose your vendors based on their quality of service, not on the price. <3 <3 <3

  6. Congratulations on everyone's upcoming wedding. Regardless of who you choose we always suggest picking a professional photographer/videographer over a friend or family member. Friends and family are here to enjoy your wedding and not bear the stress of capturing all the perfect moments from your big day.

I'm not saying go with us (even though you'll love us  ;) ) but please don't have uncle joe do your photos. You will be seriously disappointed.

  8. Hola @@SMiles !!! Welcome to the amazing bestdestiationwedding.com community and a huge congratulations on your upcoming wedding. November will be here before you know it.

We've had the experience of working at both Barcelo and a couple of the Riu resorts a handful of times and our experiences have always been wonderful. We're actually photographing a wedding at Riu Yucatan today.

How many guests are you thinking will be joining you? The biggest difference we can think of between the two resorts is size (Barcelo is HUGE compared to the Riu resorts) and proximity to Playa del Carmen. Barcelo is about halfway between PDC and Tulum where as Riu is right in Playacar and you'd be very close to town, shops, restaurants, nightlife, etc.

I'm certain someone will have an answer for you regarding booking. In the meantime we'll leave you with a little inspiration.

  10. Hi Everyone,

I'm getting married at the Maya Beach Resort on January 18, 2017. The resort is completely sold out and I am scrambling to find spots for some guests who decided they would wait and wait and now here we are. Here are our choices:

    - Mint Breeze Package

    - Wedding Planner: Yasmin

    - 4pm symbolic beach ceremony

    - 6pm reception in the banquet room

    - dinner: sea scallops salad, asparagus soup, beef tenderloin, creme brulee

    - about 51 guests in total

I do have some questions that I didn't see in the posts above:

    1. During your reception program, do you still do the introductions and that if you have a small group? Most of the guests are friends and there will be one table of 6 of my mom's aunts and uncles. Everyone else will know everyone else.

    2. On the spreadsheet that they make you complete, it says this beside our choice of having a minister:

$300 usd deductede from the wedding package

Yasmin and I don't always understand each other and she hasn't been able to explain this. She just keeps saying it is included in our package.

    3. Does anyone have an uneven wedding party? Did all of your bridesmaids stand on your side and the groomsmen on your hubby's side, traditionally? We have 4 bridesmaids and 9 groomsmen. Long story.

    4. I don't really want to have to pay for a DJ. $700USD is so outrageous in my opinion. Did your reception do ok without one?

    5. For those brides who brought their own decorations/centerpieces, what sorts of things did you bring? I can only go on pinterest for so long before my brain gets scattered lol

    6. My daughter will be 2.5 years old and can be a little unpredictable. She'll be our flower girl/ring bearer. Any tips for her walk down the aisle?

Thanks for all your tips and the ones to come :)

Hola @@carolynbauto congrats on your upcoming wedding. Barcelo is an absolutely beautiful resort.

Have an uneven bridal party isn't a problem and you shouldn't worry for a second. When it comes to standing during the ceremony it really comes down to how traditional you are. We've always experienced the bridesmaids on one side and the groomsmen on the other but it's your wedding do you do what ever will make you happy! <3
