  1. @@ErinSullivan I used Flores Riviera Maya. www.floresrivieramaya.com/eng/ They are very responsive and happened to have a fall sale. I got about 20% off bouquets and centerpieces so that saved quite a bit. @@Christinagiovanni beautiful video! I'll be happy if it is not sold out as they say but it would also suck if that's not really the case as they turned away guests that wanted to book
  2. @girlinthecity97 thanks for the reassurance! @@Christinagiovanni it's interesting you noted how the Hotel wasn't busy during August. I thought that wouldn't be a problem for us either since our wedding is in November but it turns out Generations and quite a few of the hotels in the area are sold out! So looks like we will have packed surroundings. I totally did not expect this but I'm ok with it. It caused a few problems for last minute guests who wanted to book and now have to stay at other hotels miles away. El Dorado, Azul, all sold out!
  3. @@rtscent @@girlinthecity97 thanks for the tip re spotify. That will probably work better, I'm sure I can find more of the obscure stuff on there. Unfortunately we don't really have any other viable options for an MC. We have less guests than expected and a lot of the guests on my side aren't the best public speakers or have really strong accents. There is no one else we feel comfortable asking. We will figure something out. I'm staying positive! I am a little nervous and excited but can't wait for the time to come. I'm kinda over planning at this point, lol. @@Christinagiovanni your pictures are gorgeous! I think I saw some of your pics on ig while browsing the Generations hashtags. I hear you on the money saving stuff. In retrospect we could have gone much more simple and not done welcome bags or flowers. But we found a vendor (not Vanessa) who quoted us MUCH cheaper than Generations and even Vanessa for ceremony, centerpieces, boutonnieres, etc. the whole bit. In the end one thing I've heard from several brides on here is that lots of things turn out to be not as important as you think. All people really care about is good food and music. One question: did you get to rehearse?
  4. @@girlinthecity97 thanks for your feedback. Hope you are enjoying married life! The countdown is on for me as I have about 5 weeks left until the big day! The DJ friend we planned on hiring fell through also late in the game so we just hired Mega DJ. Good to hear he mixes well. Only thing is my family is from Haiti and I will need to find songs to play that will be available on iTunes, I guess that is the easiest thing to do. Just one question, our coordinator told us we need an MC because the DJ does not MC. The most capable person in our eyes is also a groomsmen. I was going to ask if the DJ would at least do the wedding party announcements and our friend can take over. Do you have any insight? Is Mega DJ bilingual? @@Kalie25 unfortunately I do not have skydeck reception picture either. I asked for pier reception pics as that is where our reception will be taking place. But my coordinator Ana was able to provide them so I'm sure they will send you some all you have to do is ask.
  5. @@rtscent thanks! FYI I just wanted to update everyone and provide a tip for planning purposes. If you are doing a room block with your Travel Agent make sure you have a realistic gauge of the number of guests and set aside enough rooms. Also keep your guests informed and make sure they understand that the deadlines to reserve are important! We blocked 6 rooms at a time expecting at least 5 or six reservations a month (we weren't really sure about the ultimate guest count and didn't want to come out of pocket a ton up front). Well, most of our guests waited until the week of deadline and now both Generations and El Dorado Royale are all sold out of rooms! Our wedding is in November and we certainly were not expecting both hotels to sell out completely but oh well. Not only that, quite a few of the hotels in the area are now sold out. So now we now have guests that may not be able to attend because there are no more rooms. Stay on top of your agents and make sure they keep you informed on the bookings so that they can properly advise you if the hotel is low on rooms. Ultimately it's really on the guests to book in time, and our agent did warn us this could happen. Just passing the info along.

  7. @@rtscent Thanks for those tips! I can't believe she did that to your veil! I would be so upset. I ordered a Cathedral length veil that is also meant to be the stand out detail so I can only imagine. So far I have heard from a few other brides on here that the coordinator and staff need work. I am trying to not have to rely on Lomas for much of anything, given the reviews (and their prices). On the advice of a friend I appointed a point person in my family to make sure everything is going according to schedule and to bug the coordinator for me. Our wedding will be at 4pm and we hired a friend for the photography, and now It definitely seems like we made the right choice.
  8. @@rtscent Congrats to you and your new hubby!!! I am curious as to how everything went and was wondering when you have time, if you could give a review/pointers. Our wedding is not until November and the Bride's Dress rehearsal has been sold out so I am trying to get as much info as I can until we can have a site visit. Hope all is well!!

  10. @@girlinthecity97 I would love to see pics of sky terrace if you have them. We booked the pier for the ceremony and sky deck for the cocktail/reception. Since we were expecting closer to 80 our WC convinced us to go this route as the deck is more spacious. I feel like I need a floor plan or something lol I'm having a hard time visualizing the terrace setup. She sent a couple of pics but I still find it hard to visualize. In some of the pics there looks to be a wall or structure in the middle, i'm assuming the one side you are talking about would be for the cocktail hour. I don't want the guests seeing the reception before hand either so maybe I will ask to have the cocktail at the pier.
  11. @@girlinthecity97 Vanessa definitely seems like a good option. We have 7 each in our wedding party and I want to get corsages for the moms. Soooo I can see the potential savings based on what you are saying lol. Your bouquet was absolutely gorgeous! I found this poster on etsy (etsy is everything). Each guest would sign a branch.   12. @girlinthecity ahhh! Seems like everything went overall, that's good news. * Our wedding is on a Saturday and we arrive Tuesday. I was definitely thinking this is enough lead time. Some of our immediate family members are arriving as early as Wednesday, which is crucial because I'll rely on them for help assembling the OOT bags (I plan to distribute them at the welcome cocktail hour Thursday night, and again at the rehearsal dinner Friday). I will try not to stress although I definitely anticipate being a nervous Nelly. But I'm grateful to have help a few days prior. A friend of mine who got married over the summer gave me a good piece of advice as well; have a point person who knows all the details for the weekend and have all guests direct questions and concerns to them so that you are not stressed with that in the middle of getting things together. We appointed DF's mom for that. I am so happy and relieved the guests enjoyed the resort! * Packing Prep - I am kind of nervous about it because I have a feeling I may end up bringing more than expected but my goal is to travel with no more than 5 suitcases between us. I am going with the full memorable moments package décor and only adding candles and table numbers, so aside from that just escort cards, our guestbook poster, favors, OOT bags and items. I was hoping with some crafty packing I could just use one HUGE suitcase for all of that, that's probably unrealistic though lol. * I REALLY want a videographer but it's so expensive! I need to figure out how to work this in the budget. My questions: - I saw that you used an outside vendor for flowers. Was it just for your bouquet? Did it seem worth it? I am waiting on our WC to get back to me with prices on the bouquets and boutonnieres, but I think I should get a backup option. Was your person good to work with? -Where was your private white party? We don't get to find out where our rehearsal dinner is until we get there which I'm cool with but I was just curious how that turned out. -Cruise - I really want to do this Sunday after the wedding. Would you mind sharing the details of which one you booked? @girlinthecity I think we posted at the same time as you answered a few of my questions, lol. We hired a DJ of our own (a friend of ours) but thanks to your advice I may have to go back and do a cost/benefit analysis. Also the cigar roller sound great! I think my DF would love that.

I am sooo excited for you! @@lauralane OMG LOOOOOOOVE the site and the invitations you made. From the looks of the screenshot your website seems amazing as well. I would be so happy and grateful for you to share your files. That would be AMAZING. Wow I'm so glad I found this thread, lol. I told my fiancé about it and he said looks like you've found some new besties :-). I also love the t-shirt idea. Maybe there are some other quirky fun ones to be found on pinterest.
  15. @@girlinthecity97 since I think I am choosing the Pure Glamour theme i'm going with Blush and Gold. I was worried my DF would find it too girly but he approved! I definitely think I might use the monogram on some of our items like the welcome cards.
  16. @@girlinthecity97 Great! We are definitely considering it. So far we have exactly the same plan in mind for the décor. I was going to choose the Pure Romance package and tweak that ( I liked the floral arrangement). Maybe go without the seat covers and change the table linen and see if they will let me add some LED tea lights and my own table numbers. Once I heard from my TA that we could split the block between EDR/Generations that was a huge relief! We expect my entire side to stay at EDR since there are no children and my DF's side to have quite a few people at Generations. The BDR will probably help a lot as far as seeing my vision come to life :-). I'll let you know if we decide to go.

I checked out the table linen and decor options on the Lomas site and got overwhelmed lol. I think I am going to go with the memorable moments package I like best since they put it all together. Without seeing it in person it is so hard to choose. You may have already mentioned it, but did you do the Brides Dress Rehearsal and visit the site first?
  18. @@girlinthecity97 My TA just got back to me. We can have adult guests stay at EDR and receive credit for our wedding :-) Phew that's good news! I don't know the measurements but our wedding coordinator told me that it seats 80 people max comfortably. I don't know if that helps. I did not know weddingwire has an interactive seating chart. Good to know!
  19. @@calgarybride2015 when you split your block with EDR, were they able to still apply all of the inclusions? Our TA told me that she wasn't sure we would still get our "book 10 rooms get one free" deal. After speaking with her, the only other suggestion we can offer guests who are looking to pay less is to stay at EDR. After you add up the day pass ($100 pp), travel to the hotel, and the restrictions on the day pass, you aren't really saving money staying anywhere else. @@kfracassi I also asked my TA about doing 2 nights 3 days and she said that it's possible but they would not be counted toward our room block and would have to pay the current rate at the resort at the time of booking. Being sympathetic to some of my guests limitations I thought I could offer that one suggestion and let it be. Ultimately I agree with everyone else, those that want to be there will try their hardest to make it. We will let it be known that we understand if not every one can.
  20. @@girlinthecity97 @@lauralane Thanks so much for your feedback. I too discussed this with my fiancé and he said the same thing about this being about us and those that really want to be there will do what they can to be there. Having our wedding in my hometown will cost us over 20k and we know that is not what is best for us. A few of my aunts and cousins may not make it but I am certain it will be a great experience either way. I am also trying to discuss with our TA whether we can do a block at another hotel in the area or suggest other hotels for our guests to stay in. Neither of us have a problem with that as long as they can make it to the property on our day.
  21. Hello again, Has anyone gotten any feedback from their guests so far about the cost? I am having major DW guilt as GRM is one of the more expensive resorts in the area and I know a few of our loved ones will have a tough time paying their rates, even with the group discount through our TA. I know we can't please everyone, and the essentials will be there (moms, dad, siblings, close friends) but I know there are some people who genuinely want to be there but won't be able to fit it in their budget. I thought GRM rates were reasonable until I looked at some of the other resorts like Dreams. Then again you get what you pay for and GRM just seems so lovely and the food alone is unmatched. IDK!
