If I could go back to the beginning of the planning one thing I would recommend would be to shop around with the different travel agents and travel companies about the perks they offer.  The perks vary drastically.  For example, some brides on here have posted that they are getting a free trip for every 8-10 people that book and our perk was a free trip for every 26th person that books.  That's a big difference.  I went with Flight Centre out of Mississauga and have been happy with them so far (minus the perk thing!)

We actually went couple weeks ago to visit the site, met with WC and manager. It was awesome. BEAUTIFUL too!

Their communication isn't stellar but I know they are super busy and usually don't start getting really active with you until about a month or couple wks before the wedding.

I went and did my very first bridal shop visit....and got some ideas.

My DF and I originally were planning on waiting to do STD until October but we think we will send it out in July so that people have more time to start saving/reserving/start paying and so on.

YES. I want to get an early start also. If I can give my guest more than 12 months to plan that would be AWESOME!!!!

No much, I just decided on my resort. I am now thinking of a date so I can lock it in by middle of November. I already know what DIY invited I am using so right now I am trying to get my 150 post to get the template FREE~!

I am now thinking about my wedding party and asking my FI to think of what he will wear in Jamaica. I am taking baby steps and trying to research as much b/c when I lock my date in I want my save the date to be ready and shipped out at least 2 weeks later. That is my plan anyway!!

What have you already done? I hope I am not behind on task. Thinking of Nov 2014...

I have heard/read that you won't get your welcome dinner confirmation until a week before. Not helpful for the purposes of printing, but perhaps at least comforting to know they not just ignoring you? :-/

 

And yes, too funny that we're practically neighbors and getting married withing a week of each other! If you're still there on the 8th (when I arrive), maybe we can grab a drink and say hello

I love Secrets Wild Orchid but it's an adult only resort and I have chidren attending!! Nice resort though! Maybe I will go for my honeymoon. I will definitely look into that!!!

I got engaged 2/14/12 and immediately started looking up every single resort website in Jamaica.  Read all the pros and cons on Trip Advisor and finally decided on Secrets Wild Orchid because of its newness and privacy.

 

My wedding is 7/1/13.  The wedding team at the hotel contacted me May 1st to find out my ideas for the wedding.  Seriously, there is no stress in this.  I had already been figuring out my colors, bridesmaids, weddings songs, etc throughout the year so now it was all coming together.  There are many brides that go all out and create Save the Dates, Invitations, Luggage Tags for guests, Wedding Itineraries, Gifts, and so on.  I choose to keep it simple and save that money for me and my future husband to spend on our honeymoon doing fun things.

 

You cna look under Wedding Planner forum to see what other brides have done. Hopefully this helps!  Now get started. That's the fun part. 

Funny. I researched for months and these were my 2 choices also. I finally decided on Iberostar Rose Hall Suites because Gran Bahai seemed like a large resort. I dont want it to be hard to find my friends and family. I'm not a large crowed type of person so that was the deal breaker for me. Although their wedding packages are nice. Congrats!!!! I just decided on my resort in Jamaica. My next steps are locking in the date and getting guest information. Since I am thinking about Nov 2014 or early 2015 I am just researching DIY stuff and reading reviews of guest leaving my resort. My prices are not available for the resort or flight as of yet so right now I am just planning every thing out!!!

Congrats!!! I will also have family attending with children. I was already set on Jamaica so after researching for MONTHS! I decided on Iberostar Rose Hall Suites. Iberostar Rose Hall Beach is also family friendly.

Yes. I am having the ame problem. I want to give my guest at least 10 months to plan and pay for their travel. Hopefully with me moving my date the extra time will help.
