  1. You are getting so close and it was probably at about this point I panicked a little.  You are really realizing this is coming and quick! And just tying up all the lose ends and making sure everything is in order can be a bit overwhelming.  But this is where all your early planning and crafting will help ease the stress!!!!  Just remember all you have done!!!!  I always said 'could be worse' hehehe.

The hair is a hard one.  I know for my hair that it doesn't handle humidity well and that to have a style hold I needed to have it up.  Why don't you try to style your hair yourself once you arrive and wear it out and see how it holds up and if you can handle the heat on your neck? this will give you a good idea what you want for the day of your wedding.   I had a trial because I was so panicked but since you have long hair and probably style it often yourself you could do that and save money!   Either will be beautiful!!!  I have some humidity spray I bought that I don't think worked hahaha, but if you wanted to try it I can give it to you. No sense in you buying more!

I def. recommend an MC and if you have someone in your party who is funny and outgoing, even better. I really credit the flow and fun of our reception to our MC!!!  he was a stand in because our original MC lost his voice and he nailed it.

    YAY!!!!

That's a really good idea! I hope the hair dryers in the room have some power because I always just give up drying my hair when I go there with those small hair dryers haha. It's way too hot to be holding some hot hair to your face for an hour lol. I'll try doing that and see how it goes, like you said, it might look terrible in half an hour with the humidity and then I have to change plans anyway. I have some spray for "beach waves" I think it helps a little but my hair is naturally frizzy when I first wash it until it settles down or I curl it/straighten it. I have a trial on the second day when I'm there but it would be nice if I could narrow it down to an updo or half updo. Especially if I have to go for an updo, I've never had one done, so there might be some tweaking needed for the wedding day, it would be nice to try it first. The trial is free, so that's nice :).

We have to sit down and think about who is more likely to say yes to the MC job hahha. I would be terrified of doing that ahaha.

  2. I always have horror stories with mail. Last month, about a week's worth of mail was returned to sender because everyone 'moved and left no address'. Our apartment complex was under renovation and the mailman would have had to walk to all the buildings instead of driving up to each one. SO Frustrating!!

I'm praying this week is the week!

Last night we went to a wedding. It was nice because I could see how they did some of the things that were a big question mark for me hahah. For example, how the MC helped moved things along (we still have to ask someone about MCing), how long dinner approximately takes when you have a buffet. I was surprised, it was a lot less than I thought! People basically inhaled their food haha.

I sent the brochures last night, no hashtag. I just thought, there's only 30 of us, I'm sure the pictures will make their way back to us somehow :). Plus, I couldn't think of a hashtag that I really liked for us, so it was better this way.

I'm having second thoughts about my hair for the wedding. I knew this was bound to happen. To give you a bit of background, I have very long, thick hair, up to my waist. I love having my hair down and putting half of it up, curling it, etc. However, with the heat I thought it would be better having it up. Now I'm not so sure, I just love the half updo's. I take great pride on my hair and I love showing it off so now I'm considering going half-up. Maybe I can work with my friend who is a hair dresser to see if there's any that I cold put into a fancy side ponytail after the ceremony. I still haven't decided what to do, it might be a last minute decision haha, especially when I get to experience the heat over there :P

I feel like everything is pretty much done now. I'm going to try and start packing some of the wedding stuff, so i can see how many more suitcases we need and start planning how we can divide things among our family members so that we don't have to pay for many more extra suitcases.

Almost a month out!! Last night at the wedding it finally started to dawn on me that the time is almost here! I had a bit of a freak out moment hahah.

  3. Hi! I finally got some time to post on people's threads. I saw the pictures of your dress and it's gorgeous :), now I know what you meant when you said that my dress was along the lines of what you wanted, they do have very similar styles ;). Great minds think alike! haha. I agree that the veil totally adds to the whole look. I'm totally biased because of course I'm wearing one :). I just think it goes really well with your dress.

  4. Hey!

Sorry to hear about your jewelry. I've never had a liking for Canada Post so I feel your pain. I hope it all works out.

My coworker recently married and used their last name and knot. So #smithknot or whatever. Just an idea!

I think your ideas are cute but personally like ones with your name somehow. But I don't hashtag so what do I know :) I think any would work! We only had one or two use wed pics :( most used Facebook like you said.

Congrats on being close to printing the brochure.

Edit - if the jewelry never shows don't you have some recourse with the site you purchased or your bank/pay pal? I'd want my money back!

That hashtag is a great idea. But I'm leaning more towards just telling people to tag us on Facebook. It will just be a lot simpler since they already do anyway . I'm sure Juan will agree with that too.

Yeah I'm thinking of waiting a bit longer in case it shows up in the mailbox but otherwise I think it was certified so I can probably get my money back somehow. Either from the bank or from canada post. I just don't understand how you can loose 3 days worth of mail. That's a lot of mail!

  5. We're ready to send our welcome brochures to get printed, but I think we should put a hashtag on it and we're having trouble deciding on something. Mainly we can't think of anything that isn't taken ahaha. What do you guys think of azulkisses? I don't know, I'm not convinced about it so I might just scrap the whole idea and have no hashtag. Just tell people to tag us on facebook/instagram or send us the pictures. After all there's only 30 of us.

We also thought the song by Shakira (Colombian), Lucky, that she wrote to her then Argentinean boyfriend. It says "lucky that you were born so far away so we can make fun of distance" (or something along those lines haha), but if we make our hashtag makefunofdistance I don't think anyone else would get it.

    What do you guys think?

    Update on the BM jewelry

So remember how I told you guys that these gifts have been stuck at Canada Post since June 1. I tried following up with customs and Canada Post and apparently all mail that came in June 1-3 is pretty much a write off. It's gone missing, they have no idea where it all is and people are getting quite impatient. My reaction is "Are you freaking kidding me?!". The lady over at customs said that Canada Post is the one that hands the mail over to them but they haven't handed anything for those three days and they're getting calls like crazy. There's basically nothing I can do until Canada Post gets their crap together. She said that in some occasions the status won't be updated but people receive it anyway so she said all I can do is keep checking my mailbox and pray that that's my case. How frustrating is this? I thought I had ordered this with plenty of time but maybe not. I guess I'll wait until the last few weeks and if it doesn't come in I'll try to get them something locally. Which still makes me angry because what a waste of money.

As for my necklace for the wedding, it was supposed to be here already but Canada Post made a mistake and sent it to the wrong place, so now they had to re-route it, according to the tracking now it should be on its way. I am not impressed with Canada Post right now at all! It's not even Christmas time!!

  6. @@TinkerSofi OMG you're so close to your wedding!  I'm so excited for you!!!  I have so much catching up to do on your planning journal!  How are you feeling?

I feel pretty good but I freak out once in a while. I don't think I've quite grasped the fact that it's only a few weeks away! I still feel like I have another year to go hahah. There hasn't been much planning going on, but I feel like everything is pretty much done.

I couldn't contract outside vendors - so no external DJs, no external décor person, no external florist to come and drop off flowers.

I was allowed to bring any decorations I wanted as long as they did arrive in a luggage...

The contract did not say anything specifically about not being able to buy fresh flowers and arranging them myself.

I highly doubt they would even notice if you had someone else do your boutonnieres.  Our WC was all over the place.

that's what I was thinking. I mean, if all of a sudden I show up with all natural flowers for the whole wedding they might wonder, but boutonnieres are so small that no one will even notice if they're real or not :P. It will also probably cost me a fraction of the price than if I go through the hotel

  8. I was just reading your planning thread and you cracked me up with your "befriending the gardener"   I brought down some gardening sheers to be able to put together my flowers etc etc and I was seriously tempted to snip some greenery afterhours to add to the volume of my flowers.  lol  I obviously didn't, but I was really tempted.

That's insane about the hotel charging you soooo much.  I was in the same boat as you.  My colours were gold and coral and Katy didn't have any gold vases for me to rent which is why I got my dad to get them for me.

A few things I learned from my wedding ...it's not easy finding nice vases in Playa del Carmen.  Not that we needed any but we kept an eye open because the ones that my dad bought were slightly small and I thought that if I found a size bigger I might pick up a few and add it to our décor.  We looked at Walmart, Chedraui, Sam's club, Mega, playa, and definitely wasn't easy.  They need a Michael's down there becfause that would solve our problems.

Even talking to Katy, she mentioned it was really hard to find vases down there.

So if you do consider bringing some down it might be the easiest solution for you.  Just because you bring them down with you doesn't mean you have to take them home with you.  You could always see if Katy wants them.

I would probably do the lemon thing yourself and no let them charge you a dime- I'm sure if you recruit a few people it would be fine.

I found a really nice flower store in playa del Carmen and their prices were very reasonable.  They also sell the greenery that you are looking for as well and for a reasonable price.  I have their business card somewhere...i'll post it when I come across it.

Anyway, those were my little lessons learned regarding vases and flowers in Playa del Carmen.  ;)

yes please post their business card. After asking the hotel 3 times for a quote for a darn boutonniere and still getting nothing i'm probably going to go out and get them. I tried.

Did your hotel have a limitation on your contract that you couldn't bring outside flowers?

  9. @@beckys98 thank you! I just think that a dress also has to fit your personality and that makes a world of a difference on how you carry it, so maybe that's why most of them look better on the brides than on the models :). I think this dress really fits my personality. I was actually telling my mom the other day that I feel like it makes me look smaller and/or younger. When I tried it at the store I felt like a sweet 16 hahah. I'm glad I got a veil because it makes a big difference, it makes me look more like a bride :P

I have a friend who got married a few years ago and she looks super young. One of the people working at the reception asked her sister if she was a child bride hahaha. She was 25 by the way, but her dress also made her look smaller and younger :P

@@acw271011 yes, their prices are so reasonable. I couldn't believe the deal I got on my dress considering all the beading and detail on it :). I can't wait to see your dress on you, it's so beautiful.

  10. haha @@TinkerSofi, Thanks. Yeah I just felt awkward standing there and not knowing where to look (do I stare at Nathan the whole time and feel creepy) or do I go back and forth from Nathan to the Pastor....you can clearly see what I went with..lol

hahah I'd feel the same and probably would do the same thing. I'm always making faces to him, especially when things are kind of awkward hahah :P. He's like my refuge when things get awkward hahah.

  11. Congratulations! Everything looked so good and I'm happy that you consider this the best time ever :). I think we always have some kind of regret, but I wouldn't let that hold you back from enjoying your memories at its fullest. You know for a lot of us this is our first wedding, and as usual with first times, there's always things we learn in the process and things we wouldn't do again if we had to, so I think some regrets are normal. I really would try to get past them and maybe if talking to your sister helps I would do that :)

  12. @@TinkerSofi oh im not about name brands either!! If the dress fits, makes me feel like a million bucks and i dont have to spend a million bucks to get it.. ITS MINE! haha!! Im starting my list of dress designs i have loved and i have yet to see anything like yours!!! STUNNING!

Exactly!! Sometimes I wonder how some girls can actually tell even what season the dress is from, to me they all look kind of the same haha, as long as it fits, i'm good :)

I loved it because it is super light, the top part is really the heaviest due to the beading, but I can feel the breeze in the bottom :). It really is different than all the other dresses I had seen and it was a nice compromise between a DW dress and a more formal wedding gown. The design I have is called sincerity 3758 but if I had seen their website before finding this one I would have probably tried a lot more of their dresses on :)

I just realized something, the train on the model does not look nearly as long as mine. It probably has to do with the fact that they had to cut 1/4 of the dress to hem it hahah. I still love it though, especially because when it's bustled it's very seamless.

  13. Thank you so much for the advice.

We are looking into getting stencils made. Its not that there is a lot of details on our stencil (actually just one word, Memories) its that we have to cut out the word ourselves and the other night that nearly took us an hour. If we could have a couple stencils made we are hoping we can set up an assembly line and recruit my mom for help to get them done faster.

I will let you know how round 2 turns out. LOL

I remember way back in the day when I was in kindergarten we used X-ray film to make stencils but now since it's all digital, I'm guessing that stuff is hard to find, but maybe something that has a similar consistency will work

  14. For me, the store is closing so they just said they were going to do the alterations before the store closes at the end of the summer. I dont think if it needed to be taken in anymore it would cost very much so i'm hoping if I lose 10lbs it really doesn't affect the dress too much. I know that my height wont change (unfortunately haha) so the hem should be good.

makes sense then. I think 10lbs is a size change, so you might be surprised how much of a difference it makes. It's always easier to take in a dress than take it out though, so you'll be ok ;).

I had a bit of a surprise the other day with my hem hahah. The first time i went to get alterations the dress was a bit tight around the hips and I guess it was lifting it up, because when i went on friday the hem was about an inch too long so they had to alter it yet again. I'm picking it up today and it should be good to go :). The lady there told me that sometimes it happens that when you do alterations everywhere else the hem is a bit different. At least it turned out that it was too long and not too short haha!

  15. @breezie Have you got the dress back yet? I'm really curious to hear how it goes. I just got my dress this weekend and the first set of alterations is going to be done by the end of the summer, then I get to keep the dress from there on out. I'm worried because I still want to lose 10lbs before my wedding and I'm worried I'll have to have it taken in again so I'm hoping this little shop you found works out so if I need a second round of alterations I can go there.

Just my two cents, but I'd wait to about 3 months before the wedding before doing alterations, especially if you're planning on losing weight. I bought mine on sale as well, a sample gown. They cleaned it and gave it to me to bring back 3 months before the wedding for alterations. I'm so glad I did that. The dress didn't close when I bought it and I thought i'd have to put a corset back on it. I wasn't planning and I didn't think I could lose any weight, I had already accepted the fact. However, by the time the 3 month mark rolled around I was able to zip it all the way up :), and it only had to be taken out a little around the hips.  That definitely saved me a few bucks in alterations :). I guess if the store is willing to do any further alterations for free, then you could just do it now and later if needed, otherwise I would wait longer. I know it sucks because I've been wanting to see the final product for almost a year, but at the same time I think it's just easier to do everything that needs to be done all at once and knowing for sure that nothing else will change.

Edit: I read your date again, for some reason I thought it was further away. I guess that it's not so bad having it altered now, then hopefully you have to take it in a little bit more in a couple of months ;)
