  1. We're looking at Mayan/Playa/Tulum area.   DR is def. out for us, the pricing for Feb are already super high, so we're just trying to find something that works.  It's a lot higher than I expected honestly, I had no idea we were going to be looking at $1700 a person!  That's been disheartneing, but at least we have a whole year's notice for everyone

  2. We have many reasons... But the huge on for me is I have just always pictured getting married on the beach. I feel most at peace when I'm near the ocean, I can't imagine anything else!  After we went on a trip to Cancun last year he was 100% sold, so it has been what we've wanted even before getting engaged.  But the other reasons:

    1)  He has a HUGE Dutch family, and we simply could not afford to have an at home wedding, we are footing most of the bill ourselves so it just isn't reasonable. Our $12,000 budget wouldn't get very far up here!!

    2)  Our families are super spread out.  We are here in Edmonton, most of his fam in Northern BC and mine in the US so people would have to travel regardless. It makes more sense for everyone to gather in one spot

    3) we both have divorced parents, so having a full week to spend with everyone ensures there are no hurt feelings about spending time with one and not the other, etc etc.  Those with split parents will understand what I mean I'm sure!!

    4)  I don't get to spend a ton of time with lots of my family and nor does he as everyone is far away, we love the idea of getting to see everyone for an entire week and really spend QT with everyone.

  3. Yay I finally get to post something!  I found my dress last week, I had an awesome shopping trip with my mama and three girlfriends.  I was getting nervous because none of the dresses gave me "the feelings", so I figured maybe I'm just not that kind of girl to get all emotional about the dress. But, then my sales lady pulled this one out, as soon as she started doing me up I knew it, I completely pictured myself walking towards my man wearing this dress! ...and then I ugly cried and so did all of my girls.  I COMPLETELY lucked out with this dress, I can buy if straight off the rack, the only modifications I need are a sweetheart neckline, cups and a bustle.  Finally a time when being 5' 11" will be a positive when it comes to the length of an article of clothing cheer2.gif

    I'm super pumped!!

  4. Newbie from Edmonton!   We are planning a February 2013 wedding.  Haven't arrowed down a date yet, as the quotes are still rolling in. But I hope we get it set soon, I can't wait to start planning, I am spewing with ideas from all the fab ladies on here!!

  5. Two things!

First of all, I can OFFICIALLY start planning now and participating because I GOT ENGAGED yesterday :) :) ;)  OT&C is the top of our list so I can really go for it now!

Second of all, my FAVE local photographer (whom I am planning to bring with me from Alberta) just posted a wedding from the OT&C.  It just looks incredible!

    Enjoy!! :  http://www.eternalreflectionsblog.com/?p=10550

  6. AnaS Would you mind to email what info you have as well?  I am JUST starting to get resorts narrowed down and this one is def. sticking out to me but I'd like to know as mh as I can about what type of investment I'm in for :)

    My email: [email protected]   Thank-you!!.

Question about photography:  I saw a ways back someone mentioned buying their photog a room for the night to avoid fees....What about if your photograper truly is a guest?  I plan to fly my photographer fromhere in Alberta, so she would stay for a week just like my other guests.  Does she still get pegged as a 'vendor" I wonder?

Hope I'll be joing you ladies soon on this forum as an offical "planning" bride :)

  7. Well I guess this is where I belong :)  I don't have a ring/proposal yet either.  We've done the buy a house thing, and a ring is definetely in the near (next few months) future, and we've long ago decided that a beach wedding is definetely the way we want to go.  I'm a busy busy lady with a full time job and a side business so I need all the time I can get for planning.  If figure there's no harm in looking around and starting to get some ideas, right?   hopefully soon I'll be able to post something in the ring forum ;)  I'm not one to rush him too much, I know it's taking a while because he's saving for something very nice, so that's fine by me!
