Hi elissae! Thanks so much for your comments! The projects were so fun and really made the wedding details feel completely "ours". Here is a step by step guide to making the flags for the paper straws. Luckily he took pictures of every step!! We bought the straws from Etsy from a seller named HeyYoYo. I just looked and unfortunately they aren't on Etsy anymore but many other shops sells the same/similar straws. The paper was purchased from www.paperpresetnation.com.

Step 1: Arrange type/design on the attached template called ATTACHMENT 1. I think you'll need Adobe Illustrator to be able to open it and make changes. Copy the first line all the way down the page so it fills up an 8.5 x 11" page. See ATTACHMENT 2.

    700

Step 2: Using a paper cutter, trim out rectangular flags using the vertical and horizontal trim marks on the template.

    700

Step 3: Place a strip of double-sided tape along the entire backside of the rectangular flag.

    700

Step 4: Fold the flag in half pressing the ends together. Slide the flag onto the straw and secure it at the desired position with the tape. Press the paper together tightly around the straw.

    700

    700

Step 5: Once the flag is secured, cut out a V in the end using the trim mark as a guide.

    700

    700

Step 6: Repeat many, many times!

    700

As I said my husband did this entire project, but it looked fun and relatively simple! Any questions just let me know :)

OOoo nice. Thank you for this info!

My fiance and I are actually going on the Liberty in Feb to see if that's the ship that we would want to have our wedding on (and having a vacation as well). I am hoping that once we come back and I will then be ready to finalize a date and get started with planning. We are debating between Royal Caribbean, as well. I just worry about keeping the price reasonable. I'm having a hard time justifying almost a 2 to 1 ratio for Royal vs. Carnival when I know they both will be equally as fun. So, for now, just information gathering. :)

How fun that you've been on a cruise wedding before! You can definitely learn on what you liked and didn't. I've cruised enough (8 times) and my fiance also likes it - so it just seemed like a natural fit.

I noticed you are getting married at Secret Harbour - that looks to be a beautiful location! Are you planning on a little reception there following your ceremony?

Good luck at the planning. I look forward in your planning updates. I feel like I could definitely learn a lot from your fabulous wedding!

Lol. That's funny how you're going to Liberty and also comparing Royal. I hope you find all the info you need that'll help you plan out the best route for you :)

Yeah, my GF's cruise wedding took place in October and she definitely missed the island twice. lol. Hurricane season so we skipped the island once for the captain to say we'll be back to it and when we did, we couldn't dock bec. the waves were too rough and there were other ships trying to do so.  She still got married in the end at the last port so I experienced first hand the worse comes to worse situation. lol. But we're getting married in March so that wouldn't be too much of an issue :) *crossing fingers* hahah

Thank you about the location. We initially wanted Lindquist beach w/ the pictures we saw via Island Bliss Wedding's Shutterfly account http://www.islandblissweddings.com/photo.html hehe But Janelle advised that since we're getting there on a Tuesday, that's when a lot of cruise lines usually come in the island so she said that a private ceremony wouldn't be quite as possbile. :) But after some researching, we figured Secret Harbor since from their blog, they said that they can clear an area for you. Lol. That just made me search their blog again and saw recent pictures of the place http://islandblissweddings.blogspot.com/search?q=secret+harbor :)

Yes on the reception. VERY simple luncheon to thank everyone since we'll be having a reception back home. :) My friends said they don't care about the lunch really since there'll be the free dinner at the cruise, but my mother insisted lol. ;) Oh and we also chose this location since Sunset Grille is just walks away from the ceremony location! :D

Good luck on planning your wedding! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try my best to help out! :) You sound like you're on the right track thus far ;)

  4. LOL. Just read your other post. I went ahead and copied your last entry there and decided to address it here in case you wanted to ask any questions that I can help with. :)

Sounds like planning is going well!

I too, am looking at using Island Bliss as Janelle really seems like the best!

How did you guys choose what ship to go on? I have cruised 10 times and love cruising but also want a nice ship yet reasonable for my guests!

Wishing you all happy planning and thank you for sharing! The cruise board is a little quiet!

As far as Island Bliss, I highly recommned them. Janelle responds quickly and is very knowledgeable and can advise you w/ the best options for your wedding planning.

We chose the ship because it was the cheapest fair we could find and the date was timed right to not collide w/ other weddings we were invited to next year :)  We've only cruised once and it was for my friend's wedding last October w/ Carnival as well and we thought it was a fun experience overall. hah That's how we got the idea to also do a cruise wedding! heheh

We were actually wanting to try out Royal Caribbean, but prices were a bit high and heard it was more for older folks so Carnival worked right for us :)

    Happy planning!

Lol. No worries, thank you! I believe we'll bein Carnival Liberty :) We're using a wedding planner on the island since using the one the cruise is MUCH much more exepensive. :) How are things going w/ your planning? Where are you planning on getting married?

Overall, we're pretty good to go, but just need to take care of minor details like decor etc. :)

So remember it is not always the cost of the dress, but if you need to have the TTD altered, it can get expensive, too. I plan on wearing my real dress for the TTD, because that's the name of the game. I also knew before buying I had this intent, so chose not to spend thousands on the dress.

    Great point and idea!

It was turned out good...again nothing that I really wanted (and the venue would not have been what I picked if we had a wedding here!) but I guess on the budget that we had it was good! Speaking of picking our dresses I picked a dress because my mom and sisters loved it and I ended up hating it! I was that crazy bride that bought a different dress because I cried when the original one came in! I bought it and didn't tell my mom and sisters for a little bit and of course they were mad when I said I got a different dress. I am so glad that I did though because I absolutely HATED the first dress! Oh the things we do for family! :)

LOL. I'm glad you at least bought the dress YOU loved! hehehe.  Glad it's all done and over with! :D

  8. Hi hi,

I posted this in the Newbies Thread, but I thought I'd also post here since it's related to cruising or pre crusing.   was just wondering if anyone has any hotel suggestions for hotels in Miami, FL? It'll be for oure our cruise March next year :) Some of us are getting there about 3 days before boarding and wanted to see the best option.  I was adviced to look into hotels that can shuttle us on port and also possibly pick us up at the airport.  So far, our TA recommended Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Best Western & Hilton that can provide shuttles. I just wanted to get folk's feedback w/ personal experience or if you've already booked your hotel, which one did you choose? Thank you!! thewave.gif

LOL! That's for sure. Even when it comes to picking out dresses, there's still some approval and compromises to make somehow haha. But, it's what you make of it in the end ;) hehe How did your reception back home turn out btw? It's like planning 2 weddings! LOL

Ohhh noooo, do not have regret, Dazeydawl!!!!!  I was so taken back by your dress....it actually gave me some regret on mine!  Try it on again if you need to, but I think it is so princess like - eloquent ...unique!!!!!  I think a lot of us brides are thinking too much about our choice of dresses!!!  This must be normal!!!  LOL...follow your gut/intuition - she will never steer you wrong!!!!!

Thanks for the comments on my dress/belt.  You will be happy to hear the belt has won!  Although, since it's paid for I will stick it out with this one!  If it wasn't as pricy as it was I'd maybe buy another and try to sell this, but I will follow my initial gut instinct when I picked it out.  :-)

Thank you olive0y1!!!  You are right!  It's what makes the bride happy no matter how hard we try to please our moms and nanny's.  ;-)

I'm glad you found a happy medium!!! Best wishes!!

I haven't had any regret and there are some pretty amazing choices on here!  Anyway, all of you ladies 2nd guessing your 1st choice... put it back on and hopefully all of those wonderful emotions will come rushing back!

You're lucky! :D I'm still getting mine altered and won't be coming back for a 2nd fitting 'til December since I'm still in the process of losing more weight :) I hope that w/ the alterations that I'll also love my dress more ;)

Well my dress arrived last week!  I went to the bridal shop Saturday to inspect, try it on and pay off the balance.  I ordered it 9 months ago and was about 5 lbs lighter (maybe a few inches less, too!).  When they measured me back in January, they wanted to order me the size 10.  I asked to order a size 12 instead since I know coming off the summer I am a bit heavier and would rather have more to work with then not enough as far as alterations go.  Thank goodness I did because the size 12 fit almost perfectly, a little bit too snug for my comfort, but I am not use to wearing form fitting dresses/gowns like this.  And I know I hope to lose those 5 lbs and a few inches between now and the wedding.  There will be a few alterations needed, like perhaps an inch on the hem and an eyelet hook on the back which ironically once was not sewn into the dress.

I gotta say I have been so happy about my dress choice all these months, but ironically this past Saturday I had some doubt...I was even a tiny bit sad.  I have no clue what came over me...hours later I felt better about my choice after looking at the pics, but that initial thought of doubt scared me.  Maybe it was just all the excitement and build up to that day...who knows!  I just wish that did not happen initially.  :-(

I had ordered an accessory belt to bling up the dress a bit.  I was planning to tie as a bow in the back and not sew/attach to the dress.  However, now I am unsure.  My Mom & Nanny seem to think the dress alone, without the belt, is the way to go.  Mom thought the bow took away from the beauty of the back of the dress.  My best friend thought the bling of the belt was "me" and perhaps sew the belt onto the dress, bling in front, however, no bow in back, just sew the ribbon to back of dress to the center zipper.

My other girlfriend thought the bow in the back was simple and romantic.  Now I am on the fence.  I was looking to have the belt and match my jewelry with it.  Just some hanging earrings and a bracelet (no necklace since I'd have the bling of the belt).  Also, no veil, just a tropical flower in my hair.

I would love any input you ladies may have.  Here are pics from Saturday with and without the belt/bow.  Thanks girls! xoxo

I say go w/ the belt. Just tie it so you can take it off later on if mother wants a photo of you w/o it. Either way, you look fabulous in the dress and just remember tha you have to be happy with it over all. It is about YOU after all no matter how hard we want to please folks :)

For brides getting married in Cabo, the surf is very dangerous and will quickly grab ahold of your dress.

For ALL brides make SURE that the dress is NOT bustled when entering the water.  The bustle will make a parachute that collects water and it makes it very difficult to stand when the tide retreats back to the sea!

Completely good point. This is such a tragedy!

I have no idea where she found it, or if she wrote it, but even the FI loved it, and he's a hard one to please!!

As you stand beside the ocean, may your love always be as constant as the tide; waves flowing endlessly from the depths of the sea. Just as water is the eternal force of life, so is love. Love is the force that allows us to face fear and uncertainty with courage.

You have just sealed your relationship by giving and receiving of rings. But although you will be sharing one life, never forget that you are two separate people. Cherish and affirm your differences. Love each other. Keep your commitment primary. Together you will laugh and cry, be sick and well, be happy and angry, share and grow. Grow sometimes together, sometimes separately.

To symbolize this union and the importance of the individuals within the marriage, two separate colors of sand will be combined. Each one holds its own unique beauty, strength, and character. They can stand on their own and be whole, without need of anything else. However when these two are blended together they create and entirely new and extraordinarily more intricate entity.

Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination. Please pour the sand into this common container to symbolize the union of your two lives.

Kathleen and Pawel, just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual container, so will your marriage be a molding of two individual personalities, bonded together forming one heart, one life, and one family.

    Ooo nice one!

  17. You got this! Celebrate you and your soon to be husband. Try to both look at things positively and get people on point in booking, etc. before everything else gets out of hand. You can't be everything at once. People need to be accountable for themselves. I hope that your wedding day is a blissful one and the two of you can look back at the experience and laugh about it all in the end.
