  1. I too am working on putting together a vintage glam beach wedding....

    Somethings I'm doing...

My Bridesmaids will carry parasols instead of flowers.  they will have mango colored ones and I will have a fuschia one (for pics only).  Like this:

    paper-parasols.jpg

I think my dress has a vintage feel (the same dress was actually featured in a style me pretty vintage glam styled shoot :))...I am going with a birdcage veil and a feather hairpiece.  this is my dress:

    2011-09-25_12.50.27.jpg

I am doing paper straws with flags to be used in the welcome drinks:  Like these but in my colors:

Although I would love to have mason jars to serve drings from, it's just not feasible when having a reception in Punta Cana, DR.. But I'm going to try and bring a few to make centerpieces like these:

    40321359133686200_sluQv7Ta_c.jpg

I will have a puzzle piece guest book (like this one:)...I feel like it has a vintage vibe.

    puzzle guestbook.jpg

I am going to make a Flag banner for our sweet table like this one:

    600x397px-LL-7cf0ab89_DessertTable_bryjenbry.jpg

I will do vintage framed table numbers....  The numbers will be made with swarovski crystals. - A combo of these:

    swarovski numbers.jpgtable numbers.jpg

I am planning on doing Rock Candy escort cards:

    rock candy.jpg

I bought these vintage forks for when we cut the cake:

    iido_metoo forks.jpg

I am planning on designing our Menu's similar to these:

    menu.jpg

I'm working on a few more ideas...but this is a start.

I'd love to hear what ideas you or other have :)

  2. I was wondering about this as well...  I was actually going to just forego the getting ready portion and have my videographer meet me at the Jellyfish.  Who do you have as your videographer?

  3. Congrats on your wedding!  I can't wait to read your review, but based on this it sounds like everything was GREAT and sounds wonderful...

I hope you don't mind a few questions...Did you do a meal package or a la carte?  How many guests did you have? Do you have any pictures that you are willing to share?

    Thanks!

Well we just got back yesterday from Punta Cana and all I can say it was the best decision we ever made.  Both Dreams Palm Beach and the Jellyfish were perfect.  I cannot say enough good things about both.  I will be sure to post a long review on how everything went but Mayte was awesome and so accomodating.  On the day we met to go over everything she told me that it was pretty unlikely to be able to get strawberries for my dessert so we moved onto other options and when we got there for our reception...the chocolate and strawberries were there and were the best ever (seriously)!!!  She pulled through and did everything that we asked.  The DJ had played all of the songs that were from my list, that I emailed Mayte 5 days before the wedding,  and also added a few based on my music choices which I was perfectly fine with.  I would reccommend him 100%.  The MC, Jorge, was awesome and so sweet, and spoke perfect english.  Honestly the cost of everything was well worth it...the drinks were the bomb and my guests were so happy that they had Corona beer...lol!!  You will not be dissapointed and Mayte was there the whole time and everyone said how impressed they were with her and the service.  Oh and the food was AWESOME.  I got the chef's pasta (I think that is what it was called) and it was chicken with mushrooms and white sauce.  Seriously...this was sooooo good.  I know who orders pasta at a fish place...well I did and it was one of the best meals of the whole week.  We had the passion fruit mojitos as our signiture drink for all of the guests when we walked in and they were so good and all the guests loved them.  We ended up getting so many throughout the night that they ran out of the mixings before we left.  :)  Again do not second guess anything when it comes to the Jellyfish.  It is as BEAUTIFUL as all of the pics on the website/facebook and you are sure to have the best time celebrating your weddings there with your family and friends.  I will write a more detailed review this week when I get some time.  And feel free to ask me any questions!!  Good luck everyone with your planning.  Just writing about the trip makes me sad that our week has come and gone...missing DR big time!!

  4. There is a kids menu... so no they don't charge full price.  I will post that info in a bit I need to look it up.  I want to say it's like $15 per child

  5. Thanks Ladies... I'm so torn...I'm going with a Vintage Glam theme and I think both of these fit. I love the uniqueness of the first one and if I went with that one I was going to trim down the ribbon. and I love the pearl/crystal combo in the second one.  I'm just afraid that the pearl one is to chunky/wide for me.

I don't know why I just can't pull the trigger on this one....

  6. I'm sooo close to making a jewelry decision.  I'm debating between two bracelets.

Here is the first one:  http://www.etsy.com/listing/85146443/nostalgic-vintage-swarovski-crystal

And this is the second one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62070727/bridal-bracelet-vintage-style-bridal

I included the links so you can see more views.  They are both from Etsy.

Which one do you think looks best?  Here is a pic of my dress bio incase that helps to give feedback.

Thanks ladies!  After this I need to search for earrings...lol... oh and a veil would be nice ;)

  7. I just checked her work and it does look great!  BUT $275 for hair and makeup is kind of pricey.

I wish I could get some Great reviews about the make up artists at the resort, but I just haven't :(

She sent me an e-mail with her prices. Outside of  Santo Domingo for weddings its Bride $200 Bridesmaids and Extras $100 and Hair $75 with a minimum of 5 people.

Her e-mail is [email protected]. Hope this helps. If I find out about any other I will let you know.

  8. Thank you so much for the DJ info... I'm going to check him out on FB.

I too am looking for a make-up artist.  I'm nervous using the resort one, but it looks like that may be my only option. Please let us know if you find anything out.

This is my first post on this thread. I cant tell you how greatful I am to have found it. My wedding is on July 20,2012

First of all let me begin by letting anyone who was wondering about the Jellyfish DJ and sound manager some information Mayte has given me about him.

His name is John Peguero . He goes by "John PC". He is the resident DJ of "Mangu" night club in Bavaro. He travels to Europe alot and has a Facebook page where you can read up more on him.

Just thought I would share because there have been so many questions about the Jellyfish DJ.

On a different note I was wondering if any past brides have any recommendations for make up artists?Or if any future brides have found someone? Its really stressing me out that there are hardly any make up artists in the Punta Cana area. All the really good ones I have found are about 3 hours away and charge a ton of money. Good make up is so important for pics.

  9. I don't think there was anything I really needed Mayte to clear up.  I was just trying to compare my quote with others... mostly the menu.  I talked to Mayte and we decided to wait until I have a better idea of what my guest count looks like since that will make a HUGE difference.  Right now it can be anywhere from 40 - 80 people.

So for now, I will revisit it in April after my RSVPs are in.  I know that my reception will be at the Jellyfish regardless...never second guessed it.  A resort wedding even if it was cheaper wouldn't satisfy my vision so waiting till April isn't a problem for me.  I just wanted to know how much of my budget I really needed to allocate for the reception or if I needed to increase my budget.

So to answer your question... the pricing hasn't changed it's the same as the booklet she sent out.  Your quote changes when you start customizing and adding extras...which I was doing.

    I hope that helps :)

  10. Your wedding is coming up sooo soon!  Congrats!

I can't wait to hear your review on everything...  Also, I'd love to get some feedback on the specific dishes and apps you try :)

Well right now I am planning on letting my guests order straight from the menu.  I am still considering when we meet with Mayte to pick out several items and have her print them on a menu....only reason so that guests cannot see the price.  I want them to order what they want and not based on price.  We only have 16 of us and Mayte has said that it will be cheaper that way along with a la carte drinks.  Which makes sense because i know that some people will only have a drink or two.  I am having some appetizers out as well.  I just picked the ones I wanted and I am letting her handle the rest.  We will be there celebrating in 13 days so I can let you know when I get back what we paid.  Can't wait!!!  cheer2.gif

  11. Awesome!  Thanks!  between your review and Jessica's I am now very confident that the bouquet will look great!  Only 4 1/2 more months to go :)

  12. See... not to make a big deal about $1 dollar... but on the quote I just received a few days ago, she charged me $7 dollars per person for transportation.  I will definitely be asking her about that.

I soooo want to make sure it's clear that I'm not trying to freak anyone out or get anyone worried about pricing.  NOR am I in any way trying to say that the Jellyfish is not being fair.  I just wanted to make sure that my custom choices and the prices that I was quoted for them seemed fair.  That is all. ex,  I was quoted $420 for a cake when all I asked for was a small two tier cake to cut.  I don't want cake for all my guests (I'm having a whole sweet table), I just wanted a cake for my new husband an I to cut... I didn't think I should have to pay $420 for it.

I am still having my wedding at the Jellyfish no matter what.  and if I need to pay more than I expected I will gladly pay it as long as it's accurate and fair.

The last thing I want is everyone emailing Mayte because they are all nervous about their budget.  I am very sure they would never change prices on someone that already had a quote or a pre-invoice.

And lastly I apologize if I caused anyone to worry...

    Thanks!

  13. I don't have a new pricing sheet per se, all I have is the quote she sent me with the specifics that I wanted... so I'd really hate to scare anyone by sending out my quote.  To be fair, my quote is for 70 people and has a lot of "nice to haves" that I will probably end up cutting out because of the cost. I expected my quote to be high...just not as high as it was.  I'd be happy to PM anyone and compare, I just don't want to scare anyone and I am still very happy with the Jellyfish, I just want to make sure things look accurate.  Does that make sense?

  14. I need a favor... Any past brides or current ones that have already received detailed quotes from Mayte willing to share or compare with me, can you please pm me?

I just received my quote and it was A LOT higher than I estimated or expected and something doesn't seem right.  almost like all the prices were raised by a lot.  I was hoping that a recent bride would be willing to share with me some of the numbers they were quoted to see if I either need to suck it up or cut things out of the list to scale down or if I'm indeed getting charge more than I should.

I have already written back to Mayte with questions, but I know it will probably be a week before I hear back and my FI is freaking out at the quote.

I know budget isn't something everyone is willing to share, but I feel so in the dark and don't know if my expectations were wrong or what.

    thanks for any help!

  15. Hi! Kwhite...

I actually didn't sent out the STDs till I had a deposit put down on a resort.  I worked with a Travel Agent and he was able to help me get pricing and package info.  It took some time since the resort didn't have the 2012 pricing finalized when I started looking, but the TA was able to help me secure that info. I would suggest having a date secured with a venue whether it be a resort or restaurant or something else before sending out your STDs.

Have you started working with a TA?

  16. Sunshine - I'm thinking of doing the same... I want to wear my heels for pics only and I want to wear sandals the rest of the time...I'm just running into an issue with how I want my dress hemmed...UGH...

All three of these shoes are HOT!  I like my first pick would be A and B would be my second!

    Have you decided yet?

Ok so I bought a pair of pricey wedges for the ceremony and my FI thinks I am absolutely crazy for wanting to buy a sparkly pair of pumps for picture and maybe the reception. What do you ladies think? Here is the idea, I am going for.... What do you like the best? Or should I just stick with my comfy wedges all night?

    Thanks

  17. I know that she definitely can do that, she has done it before where she sections off a section of the sand with paper lanterns and lights.

My FIs only request for the reception was to have a lighted dance floor...lol.. he saw it in a picture and immediately wanted it.  And I didn't want just sand because I wasn't sure how loose the sand would be and I didn't want sand in the air while people were dancing.  I know in some places the sand is pretty dense/packed so it's not an issue, I personally just didn't want to risk it.

But I can see how dancing in the sand under the stars can be very romantic :)

  18. Welcome LonaJ!  That's exactly how I felt!  I already had my deposit put down at the resort and as soon as I came across the Jellyfish I knew I had to move it.  At first I just moved the reception and then after a few months I decided I needed to do the whole wedding there.  It truly looks like a magical place.

I know Mayte sometimes takes a few days to respond since she is soooo busy, so be patient with her.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

After reading the all the post and seeing amazing photographs I've decided I can't have my reception any other place and the resort just won't do! I'm just waiting for my confirmation e-mail from Mayte. Keeping my fingers crossed for 10.19.12!

  19. NP Alex,  This is what she sent me when I asked her:

    Dance floor options:

Dance floor on the sand with lights and papper lanters: 200 Us
Dance floor wood white with lights around : 350 US
     Led dance floor: 500 US
Plasma dance floor: 600 US like a big TV on the sand.

Also, she said that just like the DJ there is no time limit for the dance floor.  The price is the rental fee for all night.
