  1. Hi all!  I wanted to check in and let you all know that our wedding at the Jellyfish last Friday turned out AMAZING!  I know every bride that comes back says you have nothing to worry about with the Jellyfish and Mayte but it's absolutely true!  And I'm sure some of you remember the few freak outs I had ;)

Everything looked beautiful..even after the few catastrophes, Mayte (and I) held it all together.  I'm working on a detailed review and will post soon... I promise!  There are a lot of pics up on Facebook now from my photographer, but she will be adding more too...  If you would like to add me as a friend just message me or find me on the jfish brides group.

Hi jen! Did u ever receive an updated price list?

The price list I have (which is the one currently being used) is the older one that's posted on here.  I have it saved on another computer if you want me to repost it I can later.  In regards to my actual quote, We were able to choose different options that brought our cost down considerably.

I can't wait for the wedding on Friday!

Just a quick question for you about your quote.  I just got mine from Mayte and we're super happy with it, but I noticed that transportation was $7 instead of the $6 that I thought it was going to be and I remembered your note about that.  It's totally not a big deal because our quote was actually lower than expected, but I just wondered if your quote ended up staying at $7 or if it was changed at all.

    So excited for november!!

    mimi

Hi!  It stayed at the $7... but I didn't question her on it.  It seems like a lot of the recent brides have been quoted $7.  I was able to work with Mayte to make different choices on food and so forth to cut the cost a bit... Plus we ended up having a few less people than originally expected so that lowered the cost.  Mayte will be arranging 2 bus trips back to the hotel (one about and hour after dinner and another when everyone else wants to leave) so I figured the $7 was worth it and left it alone.

All of your inspiration pics are great! I might have to borrow some ideas. I love the chuppah with the draped flowers. :)

    Borrow Away!!!

I got the bottles at Michaels in the wedding section.  They come in a set of 18.  They were 24.99 but I bought them with a 40% off coupon so at 40% off they were worth it.

    Thanks!

Thank you very much!  I ordered my parasols from Luna http://www.lunabazaar.com/ They are good quality and they processed and shipped the order quickly!

  6. I have a lot of pics to share....  It will take me some time to post them all... (I never really figured out a quick way to make a pretty inspiration board)...

Here is some of the stuff....

I use the term Vintage loosely since I'm definitely a lot more toward Glam... but I feel that my dress had the vintage vibe and I got it from there.

A lot of my details can be found on a planning site that I created (mostly to share with the ladies from TK) feel free to check it out:  http://weddinginparadise.weebly.com/

Sand Bottles for Sand Ceremony - We are going to incorporate our guests in our sand ceremony (I got this idea from another BDW bride).  So decorated little bottles for each couple.  We will fill the bottle with sand from the beach from the Jellyfish (this will be done before the ceremony) and then we will ask each guest to add thier bit of sand to the foundation of our sand ceremony.  they can then fill the bottles up and take the sand home to remember "our beach"

Raffia Fans - I covered the handles with Fuchsia and Orange ribbon and added an Orchid.  These will be placed for each couple.

    fans.jpg

Crystals for the canopy - I want to bring crystals to put in the back of the canopy (this may not happen since we already have a lot of stuff to pack but I'm not giving up hope yet) When I asked Mayte about it she didn't have enough crystals so I would have to bring them. this is the look I'm really want but with all white fabric.

all the girls will carry paper parasols insted of flowers like these in these colors. :

My own Cake topper - I made this a few months ago:

Straw Flags on stripped paper straws for the welcome drink:

Banner for the Sweets table:   I made these Banners to hang on or above the sweet table...  It's supposed to Say Love Is Sweet, but I don't have the ribbon for the IS yet... But you get the idea...  IF the table isn't big enough I will probably just have her  display the Love.

Escort Cards - I'm using Rock Candy for Escort Cards

    rock candy escort cards.jpg

"Blingy" "I DO" and Table #'s - I made glittery letters to spell "I DO" for the sweetheart (really family since it will be FI and I and my three kids) and there are matching #'s for the table numbers

Our Cake forks - We will be using these when we take our first bite of cake.  these aren't our exact ones since I haven't taken a pic of them, but they look very similar:

there is more.... I'll post more later ;)... enjoy...

    Mbride,

    Your ring is breathtaking.  Congrats!

  8. I like hearing everyone's ideas....  I don't have a specific vision per se, but I have a theme I would like executed and I can see it in my head but can't describe it.. so the end result should be interesting.  I'm going for a somewhat vintage glam feel but more glam than vintage... think bling (crystals and pearls)...my colors are Fuschia and Mango.  When I told Mayte about it she seemed a bit confused, but I know she can make it work based on the pics I have seen....  I just need to explain it to her in person... I'm bringing a lot of the stuff with me...

Cross your fingers that it all unfolds the way I am hoping it will...

I'm counting down the next 3 weeks.. I meet with Mayte the 27th at 7pm ;)

cnd29 - 2 weeks left right??  Are you ready?

    It's very frustating..

Yes that's normal... It sometimes takes 3 weeks to get a response.  The weddings at the Jellyfish are done by Mayte who has been amazing.  May and June have been super busy for them (I'ver heard almost a wedding everyday) so that doesn't leave a lot of time for responses.  And I do believe they try to respond to the brides who are getting married soon first. Please be patient... it's worth the wait. I have had my fair share of tests in the patience area, but everytime a bride posts her review and pictures from her big day I know it will all pay off.

  10. Sunshine and AquaCait your weddings were GORGEOUS!

    @Sunshine,

I'm thinking about doing the same thing as you did with the food... eveyone getting a salad then the entree's alacarte.  Does the price on the menu include sides and did the guest get to pick what side they wanted?  I have the menu that I received about a year ago... do the prices look the same or have they changed?

@AquaCait, I see that you did your own escort cards, did you break your guests up into tables ahead of time?  How many people did you sit at each table?

  11. @kisha for the straw flags... I actually used an image that I found online and modified it in photoshop to make my own template.  If you use photoshop I could probably share the template with you. I had a hard time getting it to line up to so I ended up only printing the lines on the top of the straw flag and cutting the end free hand.

The cake topper is actually thin wood that I painted and then after I painted it I added the swarovski crystals.

Let me know if you have any other questions..I'd be happy to help answer them :)

  12. I think what Mayte means by that is that your group is small enough that they can cook to order... I'm sure over a certain amount they need to be more limited to get all the food out at the same time.  I'm hoping that's what it means... maybe that is why originally she was charging me a lot more... at first we were estimating a lot more people (you know how that goes... everyone says they are going to go in the beginning and then start backing out as it gets closer... we are down more than 20 adults so maybe they can accomodate ala carte for us too now... that's what I really would like...

hopefully someone can give some advice on tipping.. I need to make sure I budget for it appropriately...  One thing I get nervous about is carrying all that cash down...

Ladies, what are you doing for menu options? Are you choosing one of the options from the brochure, making your own menu or having everyone choose their own dish?

I really want to make my own menu... but when I asked Mayte about it she quoted me $60 per person...  but I've heard other brides say it was cheaper that way...  Maybe there was some type of miscommunication.

I have an email asking her if we can do ala carte but only offer a few dishes to choose from and then we pay for what everyone orders.  I think it will be better that way.  I know some guests will order an entree and 2 sides and some may only order 1 side and it will balance out better than paying a full $60 for everyone.  I'm still waiting to hear from Mayte on this.

I'm curious to hear what everyone else is doing.

I just saw you live in Chicago.... What a small world. I live in Naperville.

    Hopefully we hear something soon.

Oh wow!  small world indeed!!!  Your wedding is a few days after mine... how exciting... I can't believe I'm at 50 days today!  I feel like I'm soo not ready?

Do you feel like you have almost everything done?

  15. I know how frustrated you must be Laurenann.... it's very nerve wracking not getting an answer.  When is your wedding?

I haven't asked any of those questions so I'm not much help... BUT I am very curious to what she says about mailing items directly to the restaurant.  If you get an answer can you please post it here?

I also asked her a question about my flowers... I want a cascading orchid bouquet, and she quoted me $180 which I thought was pretty reasonable... but I've heard that orchids are sometimes hard to come by in the DR so I wanted to know if I should be looking at other possible designs... but no reply yet :(

  16. Yes this is my understanding as well... as long as they are a guest staying for a minimum of 3 days.

We are bringing our photographer "family" and they will be staying for 5 days and I was told that as long as they were a guest it was ok

  17. Thanks Alex.  That helps....  I'll try and wait patiently for more info from her.

I'm pretty sure she has tons of decorations.

As for the tables, I only really figured that out the day before as well. I had differnt numbers of people at different tables and really wanted the square tables - but they only really look right with 8 people. Some tables I had 6 people, others 7, others 8. We decided the day before to use both square and round tables - I thought this would look stupid but she put it together very well. My seating plan stayed the same in terms of names and table numbers, just the layout and types of tables changed the day before. So unless you have a really weird amount of people at your tables, I think it's safe to say you can go ahead and make your table numbers and you and Mayte can figure out how to organize it when you meet with her down there.

    Hope that helps a bit...
