Any answers, ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated!!

We had a symbolic ceremony and hired Pastor York...  Although technically he is a pastor the ceremony is not religious.  He has different "scripts" to chose from and I'm sure he can even create something new for you and your fiance.

Mayte can help to set him up for your ceremony.  He was awesome!

I'm a newly engaged bride :) and we've decided on a DR wedding.  We were just about to book at Now Larimar but then I came across Jellyfish... does anyone out there have pics to share from their wedding at Jellyfish?  With 140 pages that go along with this particular forum, I didn't have a chance to scroll through all to look for links!  I saw some from the website and more on their FB page... but I was hoping to see something more recent and more detailed... and that includes the ceremony and reception.

    Thank you!!

    Thanks!!

We were able to take our bracelets off and get new ones the day after the wedding.  Some of the groomsman forgot to take theirs off (My husband included...grrr) and they show in the pics..I definitely recommend reminding everyone to take them off :)

I would double check with the resort though since they all have different rules, but I honestly don't think any of them would have a problem.

I Just confirmed my date for the Jellyfish on July 3, 2013! Like you all I am super excited but I have so many questions! I was going to have my ceremony at the hotel... but the only time for the ceremony is 1pm.... which is way too early so I have switched everything over to the Jellyfish!

Is anyone getting married at city hall before you go down? My travel agent says its too much paperwork and trouble to do the legal thing down there... any opinions on this?

    Thanks!

    Kristine

We got married at city hall in chicago before going to DR to have our symbolic ceremony.  After looking into the cost, paperwork involved, and the amount of time it took to get your certificate back from DR we decided it was the best way to go.  And I still feel we made the right decision.  sooo much easier and stress free.

  5. The restaurant is always open during weddings unless you pay the extra $1000 to reserve the entire restaruant.  When we had our reception it was open.  We had the first floor and outside.  All guests that were coming for dinner were directed to the 2nd level.  Honestly we saw about 5 people eating dinner during that time.  We even had gone upstairs to do some of our photos and there were only 2 tables occupied.

Later in the evening when dancing started, a dad and his small daughter did come out to the dance floor.  I personally didn't mind.  It wasn't a bother to me, but if it was I'm sure Mayte would have let him know that it was a private party.  other than that I never noticed any of the other people that visited the restaurant.

I think if you are a VERY private person it may be an issue... but is wasn't for me.  I Definitely do not think it is worth the extra $1000 to rent the whole place.

Who did you keep in contact with at Melia to organize a welcome dinner and all your spa treatments?  I've been working with Ana but now that we're not having the wedding at Melia I wasn't sure if I could still use her as my contact.

Also - what were the fees to host the welcome dinner?

Thanks again for all your help,

    Jade

Even though I cancelled my wedding at Melia I continued to work with Esterlin our wedding coordinator.  She scheduled all the times for the spa treatments for me.  I had some issues with the welcome dinner... took a few tries to get it booked and I even contacted group events who directed me back to the wedding coordinator but evenutally I was able to get it organzied.  There was no fee for the welcome dinner as I had it in one of thier restaurants.  We had it at the Guarapo which is the Dominican Restaurant in a semi-private room.  It was actually really nice and my whole group loved the food and had a good time.  After the dinner we just went to one of the bars and hung out and danced.

    I am soo super excited.

A special thanks to Jenn who allowed me to facebook stalk her wedding photos - those did me in, I had to have JELLYFISH!

PS - 48 hours is sufficient for a symbolic ceremony, right?  Please say yes.

YAY!!!  I'm excited for you!!!  You are going to LOVE IT!  Yes 48 hours is enough!  We landed on a wednesday afternoon and met with mayte Wednesday night.. and had our wedding on Friday.  We also had a welcome dinner for all our guests on Thursday night at the resort.  It worked out wonderful!

  8. Hi Ladies...  Since I finally received my video from Diego I thought I would share some of the clips.  He still hasn't uploaded my trailer (which I'm very annoyed about) but I edited my dvd and clipped out some parts myself so I could share them....

And although we are not in the least bit traditional the one thing that I know my FI would prefer is me in a white dress. So I may have to sacrifice the color that I just love and I am okay with it.

Is anyone here using Cores Films?  I like his work and I have tentatively booked him to film our wedding but he says no deposit is required and to pay in cash only.  I'm just wondering if anyone who has used him before was told the same thing?  I suppose I just feel more comfortable having an actual written and signed contract with a deposit.  He said that his acceptance email was the confirmation of my date.

    Thanks!

    Ashley

I used Cores Films... I did not send a deposit.... but I have mixed feelings...

I'll start by saying that I don't regret my choice of using him, but I'm not 100% satisfied either... but I was between him and Florian from Cinema + Motion....

    The positives:

Diego and his 2nd shooter were a blast to work with the day of the wedding.  We felt comfortable in front of the camera with him and he had some great ideas.  At the end of the day I was thrilled.  He was also very responsive through out the whole planning process.  We are happy with the video we received...however, there are some negatives....

His prices are A LOT higher than most other videographers....  and I don't think the quality of what I received justifies those prices (I got his highest package... so if you have seen his price sheet you know what I paid)....  I was really looking forward to getting my trailer right away to share with family and friends on facebook... Most brides have gotten and shared it within a few days...  I didn't get mine till I got the DVD!  He still hasn't uploaded my trailer!  I just received my DVD and it took almost a month!  A month isn't long for the full DVD but it was a long time to wait for the trailer!

My DVD had my husband's name printed wrong on it!  His name is Louie... not very hard to spell... So now I'm waiting for re-printed copies... I'm still waiting for my trailer to be uploaded so I can share it... hopefully it will be soon... maybe tomorrow on 1 month anniversary it will be available lol!

OH!  also, there is no footage of the fire dancers that I had.  I'm a little upset about that.  When I asked him he said that they didn't allow spot light so the footage would have been too dark.  1) my photographer got some great pictures so not really sure if he is correct and 2) I have seen PLENTY of videos where the firedancers were captured just fine so I'm not sure why he couldn't or didn't do it.

Overall I'm happy with my video BUT I think for a more reasonable price other videographers could provide you the same quality video if not better.  I don't think Diego is a bad choice at all...  but I thought I should share my experience.

I'll post my trailer when I get it so you can see...  Good luck with your choice!

  11. I know I posted pictures of my dress when I first got it, but I figured I'd come back and post pictures of it in action from my wedding day and day after ;)  I loved my dress when I bought it, went through dress doubt for a few months and then fell in love with it all over again.  It was the perfect dress for me :)  It's and Allure C175... sorry for the million pictures...

I got my Sandals from Steve Madden.  they have a few different styles of silver sandals with "bling" ;)

I have a few questions that I would be so grateful to have answered if possible...

I would like to have a little candy buffet at our reception.  I was wondering if anyone knows if Mayte has any scoops?  I'm not really sure what I will need to bring, besides candy.

For past brides, what cake flavors did you choose?  Will butter cream icing withstand the heat, or is fondant a better option?  Also, during your pre-wedding meeting with Mayte, do you actually get put together a mock table setting to get a idea of what it will look like?

I'm also wondering if anyone knows exactly what colors mayte has for tablecloths, decor, etc.  I would like to use more pastel colors in my scheme.

I know Mayte has almost anything you want and if she doesn't have it, she most likely can get it for you.  A lot of the things she set up for my wedding she purchased or made based on what I asked for.

We didn't got through a mock up of the tabel setting, I just showed her pictures of what I liked and the colors I wanted and she gave me her ideas to approve or change.  She does come to you with a lot of great suggestions and ideas.  I know it's hard to say don't worry (I stressed a lot before the wedding) but seriously she really does know what she is doing and has it all under control.

For the cake I would recommend fondant.  I know they can do buttercream, but for me fondant is a better option.  It looks neater and keeps the cake together better... not to mention it can withstand the heat better than buttercream.  The flavors I had were: banana cake with creme brulee filling and Rum cake with Mango filling.  The rum w/mango was DELICIOUS!!!  The banana was ok, but a little heaveir for me... the guests enjoyed both flavors.

    Hope that helps!

I debated this for a LONG time... I almost when with DJ Mannia because they had the LED dancefloor and everyone raved about them... but i didn't like the fact that they had a 4 hour time limit with the max of extending only 1 hour and they were pricey!

I ended up going with Mayte's DJ and she was able to rent the LED Dancefloor for me too!  The price for the DJ, MC and Dancefloor was WAY less than the DJ Mannia quote and I had them for as long as I wanted!  They kept the dance floor PACKED.  It was a great party, they may have played one song I didn't like, but everyone else enjoyed it and was dancing so it didn't really matter (besides I didn't give them a do not play list).  They also played any song that my guests requested.  It was a great time and well worth the money.

    I recommend Mayte's DJ 100%

  16. We had our wedding cake and a sweet table (both paid seperate from the dinner) and honestly it was a lot of dessert...

Just an FYI... I wish we would have cut the cake a little bit earlier..  We waited to long after dinner and as soon as my husband and I cut the cake everyone went to dance.. by the time Mayte came out with all the slices and placed them on the table a lot of people didn't eat them :(

  17. I'm finally getting around to posting some sort of recap with pictures of my day!

I'm a very detailed oriented type of person so I put way to much stress on myself before the wedding.. but let me tell you Mayte has it covered.  I did bring stuff with me, but she had a lot of great ideas of her own.  We struggled for a bit in the beginning because I told her I wanted vintage glam with fushcia and Orange and she told me those colors were too bright.  But after I had showed her what I brought and my husband told her we watned 'vintage hollywood' she pulled it off brilliantly.

The weather the morning of the ceremony was beautiful.  At the resort is was SOOO Hot... but once we got on the Jellyfish the ocean breeze was so refreshing that everyone was comfortable.

After the ceremony, there was a HUGE wind/sand storm!  The centerpiece on our sweetheart table toppled over and shattered and everyone was getting sand in their face and decorations were faling everywhere! it was a little crazy!  The wait staff rushed to lower the "walls" just in time for the rain storm! luckily it only lasted for about 1/2 hour. During the rain storm, our videographer (Diego Cores - LOVED HIM!) wisked us and our photographers away to the second floor to do some video of us in the canopy beds (these are some of my favorite pictures). But then there was a power outage right in the middle of announcing our bridal party :(

After the rain, a beautiful rainbow was in the sky!

The food was DELICIOUS!  After dinner we had dancing on the beach.  we rented an LED dance floor (it was my husbands only request) and it was the hit of party!  The dance floor was packed the whole night!  The House DJ was great.. we didn't give him a song list.. However, we wanted latin music... so we told him merengue, salsa, bachata and top 40 and that's what he gave us.  Some of the guests did song requests and he accomodated that too.  If you have specific music you want though... definitley do a song list.  We loved our party!

We also had the fire show that everyone loved!

Overall, it was the perfect dream wedding!  Feel free to ask any questions you may have :)
