  1. Hi ladies, Hope you're all slowly but surely getting things organized and prepped for your special days! Jeeeez, time has gone by so quickly. I'm happily anticipating my wedding date which is going to be May 23rd. I've been contemplating whether or not I want to hire a DJ/MC. I'm curious to know if any of you are hiring a DJ and/or MC? I've read a couple posts that brides have indicated it was a waste of money because by the time you get through the dinner, speeches, etc, there's barely little time left for the DJ to actually play music. Any thoughts on this? They've quote me $300/hr. Are most of you bringing your ipod and docking stations instead? Thanks, T

  3. Hi Alysia I'm a future GPLH bride too. We're getting married May 23rd. And I can't tell you how crazy and fun it has been planning everything. Just read your comment about flowers. You can definitely change the flowers - they may charge you for the difference though depending on what is it you prefer. Just communicate your request to your wedding coordinator and explain what it is you want. Tee
  4. Hi Leigh, I most certainly told her about you Maybe you'll get some additional perks since you're bringing her some more business!!! I have so many thoughts and ideas for guest goodies, and menu write-ups. I haven't really started anything tangible yet.. just got some things in mind. I can't remember now, but did you say you were hiring the DJ? Or just bringing your own music to play on a ipod dock? I wonder if you can hire an MC without a DJ... I'm gonna have to ask about that. Once I start putting things together I'd love to share my ideas with you. Chat soon! Tanya
  5. Hey there Canadiangirl How's it going? Hope you're enjoying the summer! Just wanted to let you know that I've been in contact with Diana and she is AWESOME!!!! She was exactly what you said - lovely, kind and so sincere. We chatted on the phone and conversed via email and we sorted everything out. I can't wait to meet her. And I can't thank you enough for bringing us together - the entire experience has been absolutely wonderful. Thank you How are your plans coming along? Doubletee
  6. Hey there Canadiangirl I've been out of town on business for the last 5 days, so i haven't had a chance to connect with Dianna. Booooooo! I will definitely do that today though. And will keep you posted on what we decide to do. I'm so excited! Chat soon!
  7. Hey canadiangirl Thanks so much for your response and for the warm welcome! In deed this site has been super helpful. It's fabulous to connect with past brides and future brides, especially those going to the same resort. I love it! That's so awesome that you're using a local photographer. I recall someone else mentioning that name but didn't think it was a local vendor. I think i'm going to do the same thing. If it's ok with you, I'm going to PM you and get some additional info. I'm a fellow Canadian from Toronto, ON. We've been planning quite far ahead... already have our dates, location and time for ceremony and reception. Our weeding date is May 23rd 2012. We went with the Pure Paradise Package - just changed the floral arrangements and was able to modify a few things. I'm still going back and forth with my w/c on some more details though. It's so hard when you're planning so far in advance... jeeeez! I see your date is in April. Super nice! And congrats to you and yours. Are you guys doing a private reception? Any special additions you're looking to purchase? Will chat again soon. I'll send you a PM now as well. Thank you so much for your help and your recommendations.
  8. Hi JessicaP In deed we are wedding twins! Super wild! I'm in Toronto! I don't know which is more crazier - the fact that we both live in southern Ontario, or that we are getting married on the same date. Awesome! We've planned for a 4pm wedding on the beach. We're leaving on May 19th from Toronto. What day is your group departing? For our reception, we chose a private reception at Poseidon... i think it'll be nice although daaamnnn... it's starting to cost alot of money. Definitely didn't expect some of the extra costs, but then again, not sure what we expected. Obviously, and unfortunately, nothing's free! As for colours, we're going with a light blue/turquoise and light sandy colour. Perhaps I'll throw in some vibrant greens or oranges as centre pieces... still thinking about that. I went with the Pure Paradise Package, but am paying a little bit extra for different flowers. You have to ask for every little think possible to make sure it's either included or not included in the package. SOooo many things to consider. It's crazy!!! We have not decided on a photographer yet. I was thinking about flying someone down too, but now I'm thinking about getting someone locally. I've been blogging with a few other brides and got some feedback on a few local photographers. You have to pay the resort a vendor fee though - $300 in order to bring someone in. I think if they're part of your party, then there wouldn't be a fee. That's super nice of you to bring down someone from Texas - they must be real good! Are you getting a dj? or another form of entertainment for the reception? I was told it's a waist of money to hire the dj - something along the lines of by the time guests are finished eating, there's only like an hour left to dance. Reception will end at 10pm. We were thinking of continuing the party on the beach ... we've got to go somewhere to keep the party going. But again, not sure about how that would work. Still haven't decided on all these specifics yet. Yes, I was thinking about having a get-together with all the guests in Jamaica. Definitely a dinner with everyone so they know the agenda of the day and what to expect/where they need to be, certain times, etc. Something post the wedding... I'm thinking of taking our group to another part of the island to enjoy a day of Jamaican food and drinks. We should totally connect at one point once we're in Jamaica. I'm sure we'll see each other on our wedding day, but I'd love to meet up with you before. What about you? What package did you choose? And have you sorted out colours yet? I'm assuming your name is Jessica I'm Tanya! Super nice to meet you fellow bride. Chat soon!!!
  9. Hi canadiangirl I'll be getting married at the GPLH in May 2012. I'm interested in the photographer you plan to use. Would you mind telling me who they are? Also, did the resort deter you in any way from bringing an outside vendor? Aside for the additional cost of $300, was wondering if they gave you any grief about it. Thanks so much
  10. Hey ladies! I thought I'd join this thread as I'm also a future GPLH bride. Our wedding date is set for May 23rd, 2012. Same as you JessicaP? CRAZY!!!! Where are you from? And how has your planning been going with your W/C? I been talking with Nekeisha and so far, she's been super helpful. Have you decided on a reception area? And ceremony? What about a photographer? Ooooh weeee, super exciting Congrats to you all!
